I'm pretty sure shogi will eventually become a mainstream game in the states. Every chess player i introduce to shogi ends up a fanatic. This is my all time favorite game, above any video game as well. :D
What I love best about learning eastern games, is the great number of proverbs that I get to take away from them. "You have failed to become a good player, only when you have failed to try." Proverbs don't come much better than that. Oh, and incidentally, I was happy to learn that my vocabulary of go [igo] terms such as jouseki also apply to shogi!
thanks for the lessons, I've seen them all. Although I've seen them I must go back to them and practice things such as castles and mate problems. This will happen when I buy my shogi set. Now I play only on the Internet. Keep up with the good work!
Hidetchi-san is GREAT!!! I just finished lesson 40 and I'm amazed at the wealth of knowledge I have gained. I reviewed some earlier lessons and it all clicks. I wanna thank you Hidetchi-san for all your hard work with these lessons they won't go unchallenged! Now on to the Jousekis... Thanks again Hidetchi-san!
I've been watching the 1st of your series about shogi now for a period of time and I must say I've played alot of games in my days, including regular chess as well as new computer games and you've made me like this game so much it beats everything I ever played!
I will definitly be watching your future videos, as well as never give up.
Also, I have to say your english is amazing as well as the editing with the videos.
so sad they're over! :( thanks for the wonderful vids. i had been playing shogi with a friend online for a few months before i found you on youtube, and these videos really helped me progress as a player. i recently purchased a real set and i'm introducing shogi to all my friends and told them all to watch your videos!
Thanks so much HIDETCHI-san for this incredible series of Shogi lessons and I just finished all 40. I still have some trouble or delays with certain situations but sure I'll be practicing!
Will be watching the next series starting tomorrow :D
This series is amazing... I learned alot, Mr. Hidetchi. Now im on a quest to find a proper shogi set, for I cant find one where im currently living, which is sad... Well thank you very much
btw, if you know where to acquire a shogi set in Central London, can you let me know? thank you very much :D
Thank you very much for the video tutorials Hidetchi-san!
I was searching for good Shogi tutorials not more than a week before your first post. If I hadn't searched one more time a week later, I probably wouldn't even play the game today.
Also, thanks to your tutorial, I've been able to persuade a couple of my friends to play Shogi, and many didn't even like Western chess.
Funny note: the friends that hated Western chess now seem to persuade THEIR friends to play Shogi =P
Thanks a lot for all these great videos. I believe you managed to get many people interested in shogi (including me). Keep up the good work!
I wish I had more time for shogi, but my exams come first and I've got three months to do maths that normally take more than two years. Still, I'll try to keep up with your lessons.
I'm looking forward to your next videos.
For some reason I had to post this comment twice so if You Tube adds both, just delete one of them.
i will miss those videos, especially that last ones were very interesting, you know your stuff and the info in the videos weren't just for anybody, who wants to just play shogi, but also for people, who like shogi as a part of culture. And by the way, just because of your video about how to treat a piece, i've been treating pieces like in video was shown since then. =)
Thank you so much for making this series HIDETCHI. Your lessons have been very helpful and has created a new outlet for me and several of my friends to have fun. If your goal was to inspire people from across the world to take an interest in shogi than you have completed it! Thank you very much and I look forward to your next series and learning joseki and becoming a stronger player. I have searched online for joseki's before but didn't find any. I'm excited to know you'll be teaching it.
where would we be able to find jouseki's?

what actually IS a jouseki?
vinniram 2 years ago
It means "standard move", or "book sequence".
It's a series of moves that are thought to be the best by both players according to all the games and analysis made in the past.

Congrats on getting a new shogi set.
Yes, replaying professional games with your own set is a really good way to improve your shogi skill.

Thank you Hidetchi. I've got some books (Tanigawa, Habu, ...) and they're very useful, but your videos are perfect for a beginner as I actually am!
I hope to find soon the time to watch your "Famous Shogi Games" series, too.
Bye!
