  • Stupid Man he shouldn't be doing that job i would tell him to fuck off cos ur fired!!

  • that was pretty dumb...

  • moral of the story, dont piss off the ppl who control the bridges when u drive boats for a living lol

  • What is the name of this fantastic song......! Please advise. So beautiful...but what a sad story:) Thank you!

  • om nom nom...

  • Yeah, you saw the bridge coming down as the ship was going through and then it suddenly went back up. What a moron bridge operator. You have 1 job to do -- make bridge go up and make bridge go down. This guy can't even do that properly.

  • yes yes and yes!!

  • OMG. This is totally unbelievable.

  • I saw a special on the History channel about this incident. The bridge operator had been intoxicatied while on duty. No one was killed, although the ship was a totall loss and was scapped due to the fire.

  • That ship was owned.

  • Bullshit, the boat hit a bridge, a bridge that doesnt fucking move, he could have slowed down as well. but he was in a hurry, slow down next time, LOL

  • @tisoy909 It's a drawbridge. The bridge operator was drunk and lowered the bridge as the boat was approaching. It was too late to stop.

  • Look again. The bridge did move. Down.

    Lowered before the ship passed.

  • @tisoy909 It was a drawbridge. The operator was intoxicated and let it go down to early.

  • only if the bridge fell on it

  • Someone's getting fired.

  • @Slacker887 yep

  • donot block side street? more like do not block ship.

  • There is some serious job loss going on right there......

  • This looks like a bridge near minnesota. Where did this happen at?

  • fuck that this guy joggin i wouldve been sonic the hedgehog up out that bitch!!

  • good job.... dumbass.

  • FIRE!!!!!!!!

  • how stupid do you have no be to run a boat into a fucking bridge...

  • Looks Like the vertical lift bridge at Duluth, MN....why not named?

  • holy ship!

  • Thumbs up for "Do not block side street" sign

  • Alllll aboard the USS FAIL

  • Captain.."I'm givinit all she's got" . Before you steal something you should learn how to operate it first

  • i guess that pilot wont retire with mmp

  • Bridge Operator:

"Left click up, right click down"

left click.... left click.... LEFT CLICK! LEFT CLICK!!!

    "Damn inverted mouse-look buttons!!"

    ....right click

  • love the music

  • drin drin .... yes captain i think that we have problem.

  • That was the last nail in the coffin for Paterson.Windoc still exist. The living quarters and wheelhouse have been cleaned off.Right now she's waiting for either repairs(wich I doubt) or been converted to a barge. It would be nice to see her again, but, then again it depends on the new owners...Algoma I think...

  • Just a correction to the video's description - this was not a railroad bridge, this bridge carries vehicular and pedestrian traffic [and was out of commision for over three months while they repaired it].

  • yeah after the boat is damaged and past the bridge is when the bridge operator lifts the bridge.

  • So may we know a few things please?

What is this ship's name? Where and when did this happen?

How many were on the bridge? How many were killed?

What was the bridge operator's penalty?

  • @whitfkl318nu

    @whitfkl318nu

The vessel was the Windoc... "was" being the key word as the ship was too damaged to repair. The incident took place on August 11, 2001, on the Welland Canal [Bridge #11 in Allanburg, Ontario]. The only person on the bridge was the bridge operator who I believe was found to be impaired during the course of his duties. No deaths, no injuries. I don't know what happened to the operator, my guess is he was probably fired, but I don't know for certain.

  • That ship's going to be in dry-dock for a couple of weeks.

See this is precisely why, against regulation, I refused to sleep in my underwear onboard ship. I also never want to be in the shower with soap all over. Soap your head first then rinse. Then your torso, then your ass and legs. Then your feet. That's the formula.

I also used to shower and sleep in my life vest.

  • lol 0:38 walking along the ship turn the corner shit fire lets run at it

  • Would of been an interesting Insurance call.

    Captain: Hello Insurance?

    Operator: Yes

Captain: Ermmm i don't know how to put this...but ummm a bridge just falcon punched me.

    Operator: What?

Captain: Yeah some drunk guy thought it was funny to live out his super smash fantasy by dropping the bridge down on my ship.

    Operator: Fail....

  • i,ve been looking for some kind of theme of videos to watch on youtube: boats crashing into things, cant beat that, not as morbid as car crash videos and less bull than watching ufo videos, i need a theme or when i log in i just spend like 1 min just staring slackjawed at screen wandering what to type in

  • nice song

  • BRIDGE-1 BOAT-0

  • If I was the Capitan of that ship and lived I would beat the living shit out of that stoned dumb ass MF bridge operator. How frigging hard can it be. Thats all this dumb ass has to do, switch goes this way to go up switch goes this way to go down . Also either tell the ship to wait or tell the train to wait if they converge at the same time makes more sense to make the train wait if the ships fighting the tide .Ship should have ROW. I hope no one was hurt because of this asshole Imbecile!!

  • bridge operator "what button do i push? there it is, too late

    ships captian "what the?"

bridge operator "the damage does not look bad. opps never mind let me call 911 now where did i set the phone?

  • bridge operator "what button do i push? there it is, too late

  • The ship is the Windoc, a canadian bulk carrier. This happened a few years ago, and it was the bridge operator who was to blame, not the ship or it's crew. No one was killed and I dont think anyone was really injured either.

  • @flargmuffin92 You can tell its the bridge. It should have lifted... Maybe it was stuck? :|

  • the bridge controller was drunk and made the biggest mistake of his life... the ship crew is not to blame here and certainly not the captain as he tried to avoid by putting the ship in reverse gear... a ship is not an car or a bike on the street with brakes and stopping power so...

  • obs XD

  • Captain=Everything looks clear ahead

    BOOOM!!!

Captain=Oi oo put dat bridge der?

First Mate=Its always been there u just couldnt see it through the bottom of ur pint glass sir.

  • It's very sad. A crew without a ship after that,,,

  • Someone must have got in serious trouble for that.

  • Fire Hazard

  • ALLAHU AKBAR

  • I downloaded this song but the song ................. this is not the ocean but what a tragic outcome to say the least nonetheless. I would hope none died in this horrific disaster but observing this leaves little optimism for such to be.

  • Was anyone in the bridge high up in the boat? I hope not cuz that bitch got torn off.

  • why the song ahhhhhh

  • is that not supossed to happen?

  • r.i.p windoc :(

  • LOL

  • oooooops!

  • "Give me a full damage report"

    "Aye Aye sir"

  • poor captain

  • what's the name of the song?

  • That´s "Sailing Home" by Piet Veerman.

  • the bridge operator also had three bottles of wine.

  • The bridge operator had 3 GLASSES of wine, which is less than 1 bottle, between 11:30 AM and 4:30 PM. It was the pills that he took for his back ache that made him out of it. A co-worker who spoke to him on the phone before the accident said he was "fucked" and on "heavy medication" because of the way he acted.

  • the windoc was one of my favorite ships. she worked for the canada stemship lines and paterson and sons steamship company. farwell windoc.

  • This happened on the Welland Canal near Thorold, Ontario. It's about an hour from where I live, but I don't remember hearing about this at the time (8/12/01). Nobody was seriously hurt. The freighter was hauling 26,000 tons (52 million pounds!) of wheat.

  • huHu/// I THERE FORE CONCLUDE THAT THE BRIDGE'S OPERATOR IS THE ONE OF FAULT

  • umm... in case people didn't notice... people probably died on that since the entire bridge tower was peeled off.

  • There is a person lying flat on the pilot house floor as it is sheered off two feet above him. Nobody was hurt. Hooray for that.

  • Another interesting video ruinning by the choice of music....

  • m/v Windoc

  • I heard that firefighters not knowing how to fight fire on the boats sunk that ship. Is it true?

  • the guy runs into the ship at :40? i would be diveing overbord!

  • I would say it's safe to say that this in many millions in damage! I think that both the Capetian of the boat and the Bridge operator who was getting a BJ from his helper at the time need to get fired!

  • Not the Captain's fault. The operator of the bridge is the one at fault here.

  • well that bridge operator probably got fired. =/

  • It'll polish out. All they need is a bit of T-cut

  • fail?

  • oops.

  • Was there some sort of official inquiry into this incident ? Who was found to be at fault ?

  • Dang I hope the bridge operator got fired!!

  • You have to request an opening when approaching a bridge. The bridgetender apparently was closing the bridge after a previous ship that passed through and was not paying attention. When you hit a bridge with you're vessel . You will suffer monetary damages up to 50k !

  • I think it's safe to assume that there is over $50000 of damage!!!

  • lol? 50000 is peanuts dude for that, probabbly say somthing like a million dollar

  • the bridge operator is some sort of a cunt...and thats all i got to say

  • ARRRR Maties Yev met the curse of Ol Holland Street

  • did the people on the (ship`s) bridge manage to evacuate in time? anyone hurt?

  • From what I read, the guy on duty in the wheelhouse stayed just long enough to hit the fire alarm and then booked it...

  • Comment removed

  • I don't live in California....so I may be wrong.....but, didn't the Bay City Bridge

between Oakland & San Francisco get hit a couple of years ago also??....by an empty container ship.....similar situation, at least.

  • I could had sworn that bridge was higher than that! my bad! lol

  • Wow, Bridge Vs. Bridge. Bridge Wins.

  • haha thats a good one

  • oops!!!

  • Bridge os a ship vs. a City bridge.... City bridge won.

  • When the bridge of a ship fights the bridge of a city....

    B.C. bud hard at work!

  • Puff Puff Pass...

Arent draw bridges supposed to go UP (under their own power) when ships cruise under?

  • is this in quebec city....?

  • It is not a railway bridge you idiot! Its a road for cars, I use it all the time.

  • wow! :)

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the crew. This is your now, unemployed Captain speaking. We are now piloting a fuckin convertible. lol! Jack Daniel's fucking rocks, now where have I put me crack pipe. lol! Enjoy your trip.

  • Lol!! To be fair though, it's the drawbridge operator's fault. Those ships don't exactly stop and turn on a dime.

  • LOL that bridge didnt have a low bridge sign on it that is a shame haha.

  • i think the traffic light was red and he ran it. i heard hardware stores were out of duct tape for months. you see that guy running up and down the hull, he wasn't shutting doors he was looking for his poodle. and the drawbridge operator, they said he kept dozin and wiplashin and his forehead slammed on the down button knocking him out.

  • take it there was a job vacancy for a bridge operator the following morning...lol

  • that laker was made up from cutting an old sea going oil tanker using only the stern section with thr accomodation stuck on topat the stern.

the whole front part is new

  • this was st.catharines ontario, canada

    bang lmao

  • So many shipping lines are gone, Paterson, Misener Transportation, Halco, P&H...

  • its sad this incident sealed the paterson ship lines fate.a great canadian steamship line gone for good.a replacement bridge sat in my home town of thunder bay for years as the bridge authority and paterson argued who was gonna pay for damages.the vandoc and quedoc sat moored in thunder bay for years till they were sold off for scrap iron somewhere in the middle east.truely a sad thing.

  • when did this happen?

  • "Bridge hits ship"

  • I love that the funnel just keeps spinning in circles as its crushed to pieces.

  • What song is that?

  • Piet Veerman - Sailing home

  • the choice of music almost makes the video funny. but i would like to know if anyone was killed or severely injured because it looks like it the ship's bridge got clipped clear off.

did they abandon ship quickly afterwards or stick around to save it? if the ship's bridge was compromised, how could they command or control the ship?

  • Mustangstevegt, no one was killed although they could have been. The boat's bridge crew evacuated and the wheelsman stayed until the last minute and hit the deck. The bridge was torn off just over him. Windoc drifted to the shore and shore based fire crews assisted in extinguishing the blaze on board. Contarry to many people's opinion, the boat's crew were not at fault. It was the bridge operator who lowered the bridge down thinking Windoc had cleared the bridge.

  • WELL THERES YOUR PROBLEM!

  • I hope that never happens at the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge!

  • The bridge operator was drunk and lowered the bridge because he thought the ship had already passed underneath. The ship hit the bridge as it was coming down. The ship has now been scrapped since the accident and currently undergoing a conversion as a barge.

  • Whats the song?

  • WOW....Nothing I can say is worthy of describing this video except...5 *'S

  • dumb shit!

  • What a nightmare! Thanks for posting.

  • I would NOT wanna be that bridge operator!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • crunchatize me captain

  • was this the allanberg bridge on the welland cannel?

  • Yes

  • that was a few years ago lol i remember it bein in the paper.

  • kudos...those are some tough seamen... i mean, they are some little survivors. seamen.......... seamen

  • if you want the full story, master7chief is pretty much right - there's a special on the History Channel about it where they go pretty in depth.

  • I am a merchant seafarer, second mate on ocean going ships. It looked like a nasty one. It does speak very highly of the training and professionalism of seamen that no-one died in this.

  • Thankfully no one was hurt physically. But there bank account was drained of $10 million

in ship damages putting the shipping company out of business.:( If you where involved in this incident feel free to post what happened.

  • This is what happened.... The bridge operator was intoxicated or on prescription drugs and thought the ship had passed safely under the bridge so he started to lower the bridge. Obviously the ship had not yet passed completely and hit the bridge. One of the crew members stayed in the control tower to keep the ship on course. (He is in the part of the tower where you can see a white light right behind the black windows.) ***continued down below***

  • He was very brave, but when the tower hit he laid flat on the floor to protect him self. As the bridge passed 2 feet over him it also cleared all the debris out and away from him. As you can see, the section of tower he is in barely misses the bridge. When the ship hit, the bridge it broke a fuel line and ignited the diesel fuel in the line starting the fire.***continued***

  • The crew tried desperately to control the fire but when the fire reached the main fuel tanks they had to abandon ship or risk being blown up. I do not think the tanks ever blew up. Once most of the crew was off of the ship they began searching for the man who stayed behind in the tower. They eventually assumed he was dead. Miraculously, he showed up a few minutes later unharmed. After the accident the ship was taken to a scrap yard to be cut down and used as a barge.***continued***

  • The captain of the ship said "it felt like loosing a child". You must remember, captains invest there money in there ship for any maintenance there baby needs, also they take care of there ship keeping it clean, and they spend a lot of time on there ship. They really become connected with there ship so its a really sad thing when somthing like this happens.

  • Apparently, ive heard, the bridge operator was hammered

  • Damn, that didn't look good.

  • Thats cos yanks are a bunch of stupid numpties!!

  • lucky nobody was killed, how could that happen America has the latest comms etc

  • yup this ship is the windoc one person was seriously injured and it was damaged so bad that they could not repair it. DONT DRINK ON THE JOB AND SHIT LIKE THIS WONT HAPPEN!

  • Song sailing home

    Singer Piet Veerman

  • Norfolkscot;that's a great song!.

  • hahahahahahaha i was holding a big hit of weed and watched this and coughed it all out laughing so hard

    fuckin idiot

  • Anyone know the name of the song that is playing?

  • how come it cought on fire?

  • collision ignited a ruptured fuel line

  • The ship crashing into the bridge was the "Windoc". No one was hurt or killed in this accident and it caused 10 million dollars in damage to the ship and bridge. The ship now is either going to be a barge/tug or be scrapped. It has never been repaired.

  • Draw bridge operator trainie "I guess this means I don't get the draw bridge operator job?" Captain of ship to police officer "I swear officer the bridge jumped out in front of me!" or Captains comments "Sigh I miss being a U-Boat Captain";)

  • Those operators are as brain-dead as the Home Depot checkout people.

    Accidents galore!

  • ha ha home depot checkouts are horrible~

  • a36,welcome to my world as a contractor,lol!

  • Thats True The Home depot checkout people are brain dead

  • the boat would have crashed anyway the bridge wasnt high enough so 3 very important anntenas would have broken off anyway

  • when I first viewed this video, I thought it was the shps fault, but realized that the "lift bridge" did come down too early which destroyed the ship. DUMB ASS draw operator!!

  • Wow poor guy

  • If that all there is to the video???

  • The song is by Piet Veerman en called Sailing Home. Veerman is a Dutch singer songwriter and the song is from the end of the 80's

  • song??

  • Love the music!

  • you can see the bridge coming down as it goes under

  • wat song is thAT????!!!!!

  • Piet Veerman - Sailing home

  • Read about this one. No one injured, but there was one guy in the wheel house who just had time to duck. That and change his pants after. =-]

  • What on earth was the pilot of that ship on!!! lol

  • it was the bridge operator who screwed up - he lowered the bridge too soon

  • This happend in Duluth, MN

  • No, it happened at the Allenburg Bridge in Ontario, on the Welland Canal. The ship, "Windoc," owned by N.M. Paterson and Sons Ltd., was totalled.

There were no major injuries, but the shipping company couldn't afford the loss of the boat and ended up going out of business.

  • oh thank you...

    =]

  • It's not the ships crews fault. I read the story on this the bridge operator lowered the bridge by mistake.
