They aren't. As far as I recall, they are even registered for matchmaking.

Building too many sentries and you'd get shot yourself.
Building too many dispencers and you'd cut off your own exits.
Building too many everything and you'll be decimated by one spy.
One engie can not remove sappers from an entire room full of sentries at once.
But then again... It's your money.
