  • Lol I always wanted to have one of these as a kid after reading about it in a newspaper. But I thought it was a fightgame like streetfighter, not just a battle between some random digits.

  • made me lol all the way through :)

  • reviewer

  • The review reminds me of Patrick Trench of One Foot in the Grave.. !

  • I had a Skannerz, too bad none of my friends had one so I couldn't battle with it. EVER

  • @TheHorrorchicken i wonder why

  • I thought skannerz was unique and dissapointing, guess I was a naive kid? This is so bad (the product).

  • So, like skannerz, but you can only play by yourself, seems fun!

  • reminds me of the third season digimon digivices and the machine they had in the show

  • Would be awesome if it worked with ANY barcode. Imagine finally putting Coke and Pepsi up against each other to end the cola wars once and for all. Pitting the various mascots of Kelloggs and General Mills against each other. It seems like the entire marketing might of corporate America could be at your will with this device.

  • @jcrowley1985 Skannerz

  • Did you buy some double glaze stuff for the dog or where you too self centered to think about him

  • The American version was Skannerz Radica Barcode Scanners Game and you could actually scan barcodes with the device with out having to cut them off and put them on a card

  • They actually marketed this in the US, it kind of worked

  • in concept this is fantastic, just not in execution.

  • it looks more like a "good idea" rather then something realistic maby they should make a "patch" for it

  • Ashens:"..That was very popular in Japan." Me:HENTAI? :D Ashens:"No,not that."

  • They remade this as Skannerz in the late nineties. It was actually fun, as they made the different models produce different monsters. Might check that out.

  • @quatreryukami Er...skannerz was slightly different in retrospect. Only slightly

  • a burning lift with a corpse? sounds like my kind of party!

  • it skiped 8:12

  • It sounds so awesome! But its not!

  • while small amounts of Pokemon subject gas are still in the air, I remember a kid who went on a trip to japan and brought back a copy of Pokemon green

  • "It takes four batteries for some reason" - Maybe to provide power to the machine... just saying.

  • I wanted one of those 20 years back, despite the Game Boys existence (that I also wanted).

  • Anyone with an iPhone/iPod-Touch/iPad will be aware that there is no shortage of "Bar-code reader" apps spread across the app-store, and I have to say, I would like to see a renovation. Devs should take this concept (No doubt, a great one/possibly the greatest eye-catcher on telly.) and integrate it into an App, add better functionality, a few more features, a more sophisticated art-style for the various Monsters, but overall.. Keep the appeal of the original 90's Toy ('faux' LCD Screen.)

  • @8Cell4Cube

I'd take this idea up, it sounds like something that could make a lot of money.

    The sad thing is, the extent of my app making skills is soundboards/fart apps ;_;

  • @sonikku1471 I've been doing some research, and yes they were alot more popular in Japan but I think that's also due to the developers adding so many capabilities with it. For example, the 2nd Barode Battler had the capability of hooking up to a Super Famicom, or Gameboy. Also, the art-direction for the cards was alot more sophisticated, kinda similar to SD-Gundam. Interestingly, Nintendo and other gaming companies actually made sets for the Barcode Battler, from Legend Of Zelda to Super Mario.

  • @sonikku1471 (part 2) But I feel if this were to be implemented into an App, it'd have to use a faux LCD Screen. I don't think making it all sophisticated and realistic is the key.. Adding features, perhaps, but, keeping the appeal of the original is just a total nostalgic rush for any teenager who had been around during the craze of LCD Games such as Tamagotchi's, Digivices, and this. But damn, I don't imagine it'd be that hard to do. Trying to find somewhere to suggest it, no luck so far.

  • so this is an extremly retarded version of a yugioh game EXTREMLY retarded

  • lol i used to scan chips and food to make characters

  • Okay...I'm at 3:00 and you've already said "right" or "or something" six times already. I'm drunk already (watching your videos while drinking is a bit of a thing with me) and I've spent 12 minutes watching this video already. How? Because I keep missing when you say "right" or "or something" and I have to go back and check to make sure that I didn't miss any...My God, this 'drinking game' would kill an unexperienced drinker.

  • Pagerage?

    Mod your facebook profile?

    Seems legit.

  • wolverines retarded brother XD

  • @Gamenamer best line in the video lol

  • Hey, i have one of these in mint condition, WITH the instructions. it sucks

  • hmmmm...i had something like that when i was a kid

it was basically like pokemon expect the only way to catch anything would be to read barcodes.....

and i swear to god i never got anything

and i readt like a million codes!

i got only one monster which was kinda like a wierd vine thingy with a skull....

    yeah that sucked...

but if that would be done right it would actually be really fun!

    yeah make pokemon: barcode's

  • I loved that when I was little. You could take the blank cards and draw your own characters and battle them. KandyKane was one of my favourites. And some kind of robot I remember....

  • So we meet again 240p....oh wait this video was uploaded in 2007 nevermind >.<

  • nice idea, shitty product.

  • I remember when I was 7 I got something like this from poundland and oddly enougth it was much better you didn't need them area you just scanned a tin of beans andoff you went well that's what I thought would happen what genuinely happened in the shop i scanned everything it froze I yelled lobbed it down the isle where quitedramatically it knocked over a pyramid of beans. The owners were not that impressed so I kinda legged itfrom the scene :P

  • Those Crunchy Nut Ads on your videos are really annoying.

  • i really don't get how anybody thought that would ever be fun , i feel sorry for all who tried playing that

  • What a complete waste of those excellent PHILIPS batteries :-(

I find that, playing with dead batteries & outdated cans of food is equally as entertaining as "playing" a Bumhole Battler.

My Mother bought me this abomination for Christmas in '94... I haven't spoken to her since.........True story

  • Nice review... I disagree with you, I find this game almost as fun as any real RPG, because no matter how story is well developed, the gameplay of an RPG is alway the same... And it's this. Nothing more.

But still, a very enjoyable review, and you get almost everything right without instructions!

  • You can't get ye rocket gun.

  • I used to have one of those. Never was very good with it. D:

I wish I'd still had it though, it was very fun to read different barcodes with it and make own cards.

  • @Bastiest Though, if you don't want it anymore, you are welcome to donate it to me Ashens. =D

  • "No, not that!" I bet he's talking about hentai :D

  • 8:01 and thats fun lol

  • 4:41 Alright! It's epic battle time! I will crush this Evil Barbarian with my Power Sword and save my village from his tyranny once and for all! The power of Good will always prevail over evil!!!

  • nice ringtone ;)

  • So basically, for a game that's just as fun, each player grabs some dice (not necessarily equal) and rolls them in turn, adding a number of points to their score equal to the combined result on the dice. First player to reach 100 wins. Sounds like an amazing game, doesn't it?

  • This is like 'top trumps' with a superfluous electronic component.

  • you got your ass handed to you faster then kim kardashin giving some dude aids

  • I found your ringtone to be more annoying than any of the sounds those game stations you talk of. xD

  • The cards look like they were drawn by Rob Liefeld...

  • you are the coolest youtuber that i ever found

  • @6ariqf Wrong he is the Awesomest and Coolest Youtuber You Will EVER FIND!

  • he actually gave barbirian the sword and himself the crystals lol

  • @GOTMILK36 o. If you watch the numbers, Ashens attack goes higher when he puts the sword in, and Barbirian's life went higher when he put in the crystals. :p

  • Bloody hell, I remember a friend of mine getting one of these for his birthday. I remember we spent most of the party trying to get the bloody thing to work! Needless to say, it got abandoned very quickly in favour of his Amiga.

  • If you get the DVD you can hear the guy who called him

  • FATABATERANG

  • I loved hearing the phone call on the DVD, the man really was very rude :o

  • haha medic, medic! that made my day xD

  • this is the best game ive seen i mean the idea is so AWESOME they need a remake that has the people show up on the screen and that the screen is much biger and the features were a litttle fixed this could be worth more than 29$

  • Shit review. This person fails to comprehend that this came out in 1991, not 2011. this brings back memories. I was about 7/8 when I got my hands on this. Me and my brother spent ages rumaging through the kitchen cutting up everything that had a barcode on it, good times. True it was simple, true it was a battery eating whore, but in 1991, and the tender age of 8, what else matters. At that age those cards were all I needed to send my imagination into over-drive.

  • @mashedup1987 You know what came out 2 years before this? That's right the gameboy. Even if this is something from 1991, it's still shit.

  • "Beast Feast".

Are these monsters or poorly named desserts?

  • I had something like this, but it looks a lot different, it was shaped like an oval sort off, but it was a very strange oval, with dips that made it not oval....if that makes sense and you scanned to get aliens, when you scanned something, a heartbeat monitor cam up, and if you scanned something without a monster, it was a dead line

  • @mthatguy1111 A skannerz?

  • @StuartExtreme YES!

  • Ahhh, the guys from Green Beret/Rush N Attack changing the batteries!

  • I was once trapped in a lift with a guy who was old, and practically a corpse, and it's not really all that fun. Then again, the lift was not on fire, so maybe it's that...

  • yu-gi-oh ripped off this and he made his own version of the console and the game of the series

  • MEEEEDIIIC!

  • JAWBREAKER NOOOOOOO! The Power Sword did nothing!!

  • Does anyone else see the man's head on his couch? It's near the middle... he's looking to the left.

  • This is a classic example of something that's far more fun in theory than in practice! the adverts were very misleading, made it look fun to play! they must have been mad thinking this would succeed in the west, I bought one for a couple of pounds and it was virtually mint condition!

  • wwoooaahhh 399,969 views!

    lots of nines

  • Have you heard of "Skannerz", the fatally misspelled toy by Radica? It is a concept exactly the same as this one, but the actual diode is facing upward, so you don't have to rip off the bar-codes.

  • @ssbmfan4 I used to play skannerz! But i couldn't find anyone else who did.

  • @ssbmfan4 i used to like skannerz! thanks for the bit of nostalgia

  • @ssbmfan4 i had one. it was fun for all of about 30 minutes.

  • @ssbmfan4 Yes, he has to do that! I happen to own a red one 10 years ago :O

  • @ssbmfan4 Skannerz sounds kind of skanky

  • @ssbmfan4 i think i have one somewhere

  • @ssbmfan4 I used to love scannerz.

  • @ssbmfan4

    Yeah, those were pretty awesome.

  • @ssbmfan4 OH MY GOD!! dude i dont care what anyone says. i LOVED those. i had the monster one and the racing one. my parents were against video games, but they thought this was cool. it was SO FUNNN. i had a blast going around scanning everything i saw in stores. it sucked compared to gba's and such, but it was still fun to me.

  • @ssbmfan4 I have one! It´s a Skannerz Commander, and i remember all the fun i had making my own bar-codes to cheat it :P

  • Haha my brother got this ,totaly lame , it was rubbish and dident work lol

  • What exactly is "that" he's talking about, which was popluar in Japan? o.O

  • @ThrashDAHCmetaL Pokemon I'd assume

  • @RondoOfBloodX Nope, he said 1991, so I guess Mario

  • There's a modern Japanese take on this for ronery people. Look up Barcode Kanojo (Japanese for girlfriend). D:

  • lol wolverines retarded brother

  • had that thing and loved it so much! i got it gifted for easter when i was 5 y old and was my favourite game for a year or so

  • I like spread sheets and beeps lol.

  • jumping around in front of custard made me lol

  • "No, not that!"

    Hentai? :D

  • BARBIRIAN!

  • a burning lift with a corps is very fun

  • OMG my cousin used to own one of those he used to play it for hours.

  • Noo not that

  • I AM WATCHING THIS IN 2011

  • @tommyycore i am makeing this comment in 1972

  • @MASTERLINKX1 I carved this into a cave wall in 1972 BC.

  • @EmeraldJunkie hm, well played

  • There was a later game in America that used this same idea, but was actually not too bad. It has a REAL barcode scanner like in the supermarkets built into the top. I scanned every single item of food in my house and the local convenience store and i kept getting the same few monsters over and over. Game was still pretty shit though. But at least it had graphics, as pixely and vague as they were.

  • @DJBludLust yup. the skannerz commander

  • hentai joke

  • I remember this

  • im i the only person who sees tied up zoro (one pice character) in the backround at 2:42 ^-^;;

  • that looks kinda fun XD

  • ashens plays team fortress 2 --- 2:38

  • @TheUndeadReviewer Because no other game has characters calling "medic", right? <.< That'd be cool to play with Ashens on tf2 though...

  • oh yeah theres probably other games, but i havent really played any others than tf2 that use medic! as a voice command

  • @TheUndeadReviewer You haven't gotten around much then, have you... -.-'

  • @TheUndeadReviewer

You're a fucking idiot, there are TONS of games which use "medic!" as a voice command.

Also he wasn't even trying to reference any games,he was just shouting "Medic!" because the batteries were dying.

  • @JGRoblox23 i can guarentee ive played more games in my lifetime than you, it was a joke, since tf2 is the most recent game ive played and when he said medic that sort of clicked in my head with the relation to tf2... why are you so mad are you in love with ashens or something?

  • @JGRoblox23 Team Fortress 2 for example.

  • this was uploaded on my bday :)

  • When i was a kid , i always wanted that... Would been cool back then

  • in soviet russia the bar codes you

  • @psychonaut25 really? In Yugoslavia code bars you....

it doesn't. I'm just jealous you got to do the 'In Soviet Russia' joke first.

    PEACE!

  • i want one

  • this is way tooo funny.

  • "... Wolverine's retarded brother or something ..."

ahahahaha! Now that was epic. Sabretooth w/ a case of cerebal palsy? I know, I know .... I'm so wrong. :-P But the doc is right. He did look like he could qualify for Social Security. :-)

  • why did it die on you and have you figered it out

  • Skannerz were better. Except for the xtreme kewl letterz.

  • No, not that!

  • oh shit its a pokemon-yugioh! esque game fuck!

  • LOL I couldnt stop laughing!!! that thing is garbage!

  • what a pile of crap. blesses

  • This video made my day! Thx, it's funny as the device is useless....

  • what the heck is this even supposed to be

  • What was the song that played when you had to change the batteries?

  • There was a brand of soup in Japan that had a barcode which gave you a really powerful fighter. That brand of soup sold out within days. Beliete it or not, the Barcode Battler 2 had some functionality with Nintendo systems.

  • this seems like an idea that could work today, since portable games have much much better graphics, we could buy and collect packs of cards and get new heroes items equipment enemies and bosses. then could actually see what we scan in and battle.

  • In Finland, they had a similar thing. You had a green, red or blue little machine. You had to find a barcode, then scan it. Sometimes, an monster comes, sometimes, you find an item, or you find nothing.

  • Spread sheets are some what fun

  • I ate a hersheys with almonds during this video it made it that much better cuz i laughed so hard i have almond chunks on my laptop screen Hooray! for swiffer.

  • This is just like Animal Kaiser.. Only this one is totally shittey

  • lol "jam bam, a jedi who jumps around in front of custard" and "droome, the vomiting skeleton" xD

  • i recon it would probs be some fun for a character like me. you should review the newer 2006-ish version of that. called scanner racer or its sequal scanner battler. you dont need to cut off stupid barcode you just scan them straight off the box

  • I always wanted this, now that i look at this again, my what a huge device this was lol.

  • unbelievable!!! LOLOL

  • I had this lol!

  • wolverine`s retarded brother?lol catchy.

  • I found that fun, I don't know why though...

  • When you said "not that" about something that was popular in Japan, what did you mean? Hamtaro? Naruto? Pokemon? Vocaloid?

  • @kjw41309

That's the joke, whatever you first thought of.

  • @jwillborg Oh I see, so he didn't mean any one specific thing, it was a joke and it kinda lets you think different things.

  • @kjw41309 I thought of the famicon for some reason maybe because the words gameboy and japan were uttered in the same word though it would make more sense if he said NES.

  • @AGBmehrunesdragon What are famicon and NES?

  • @kjw41309 The NES (Nintendo entertainment system) games console from the 1980's and the famicon is its japanese counterpart.

  • @AGBmehrunesdragon and @kjw41309 It's Famicom, not Famicom.

  • Comment removed

  • @AGBmehrunesdragon and @kjw41309 I am a retarded bastard. I try to look intelligent, but I made a typo myself :P . It's Famicom, not Famicon. There you go. :D

  • @kjw41309 Pokemon

  • I guess 59 people prefer accompanying corpses on burning lifts than this piece of trash?

  • I want it.

  • This actually looks pretty fun.

  • The only reason the first custom card didn't work was the barcode was upside-down.

  • I remember this being much more epic when I was little..

  • In the States, a similar device was created in the early 2000's. The idea was to head into your local grocery store and scan everything. I believe this device was known as Scannerz. I had one and enjoyed it rather much. 9 years have passed and I realized I was a rather stupid child.

  • @KeeganB314 I had one of them,it broke plus I live in england

  • This video has been brought to you by Phillips (r)

  • oh, so this is where Yu-Gi-oh came from...but Yu-gi-oh is way much much better than this thing.

  • 1:00 CC "coupled with the folks from boston"

    ...no comment...oops, already hit Post.

  • Lol beast feast would beat all of them!!!

  • Being trapped in a burning lift wit a corpse definitely sounds more exciting than that thing.

  • @DevilDan83 Yeah, you could poke at it with a stick. :)

  • @DevilDan83 usually being trapped in a burning lift wit a corpse is all there is to do in Glasgow on a Tuesday night. Kind of loses it's appeal after the 15th time.

  • popular in japan hmmmmm, oh i know you must mean ani-

  • *thinks* RUNS into basement comes out with old yugioh cards* EXIDA I SOMUN U TO DESTROY JAW BREAKER
