  • The guy working at NASA that thought it would wonderful to find out if humans weren't the only living creatures in the universe needs to meet my cat..He would be amazed!!..lol

  • How do you move the sea from earth to the Mars? hmmmm we need water in Mars.

  • @MaloEdu There is water trapped underneath Mars' surface and within its icecaps.

  • Mars gravity is too low.... Cant contain our atmosphere

  • @rosewood223 Yes it can. It had an thick atmosphere for millions and millions of years. Do you plan on living on Mars and forgetting to pay the terraformation upkeep bills for a hundred million years?

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 *had* being the operative word, it's too small to maintain a magnetic field strong enough to resist the solar wind, so any atmosphere is slowly stripped away by said wind.

It's all about the activity in the mantle.

  • @emikochan13 Human civilization has only existed for 10,000 years. Humanity as a species has only existed between 100K and 1M years. If it takes tens or hundreds of millions of years for Mars to become uninhabitable again then there is nothing to worry about. If we can create an Earth like environment in a few thousand years we would certainly be capable of finding the time to maintain that environment at least once within a 10-100 M year period.

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 creating an atmosphere isn't as easy as you seem to think it is. Ours took 3 billion years to form.

Importing an atmosphere would be an immense logistical undertaking so we'd have to figure out how to make one on Mars.

If you're going to completely artificially maintain an atmosphere, you may as well just skip that part and live in arcologies. Never said it was impossible, but when the planet is fighting you it's not easy..

  • @emikochan13 Well now we are switching topics. If terraformation is possible at all, then it can be done within a few thousand years of starting. If it only takes a few thousand years to add an Earth-like atmosphere and it takes MILLIONS of years for the atmosphere to disappear then sustaining it should be a cake walk. Besides for the assumption that it would take a few thousand years to terraform Mars (an assumption I thought everyone was working with) I made no other assumptions.

  • @emikochan13 (Last post of 3, start at the bottom for the first and work up to this one)

Going by the mass of Earth's atmosphere and the surface area ratio between Earth and Mars, Mars will need an atmosphere of about 5×10^18 kg. The current atmosphere is MUCH less than that, but going by the volume of Mars Northern ice cap and the density of dry ice the Martian atmosphere will gain 1.92×10^18 kg once melted. Mars' N. hemisphere is lower than the S. so that should be enough air pressure.

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 As for the creation of an Earth-like atmosphere on Mars, it is doable using modern-ish technology. Solar mirrors could raise the temperature of Mars and melt the CO2 ice caps, thereby increasing Mars' atmospheric pressure greatly. Extra gasses (as well as water) can be added by redirecting comets. Many comets come into the inner solar system. If one is patient enough all it would take to change a comet's path is a gentle nudge.

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 ok then, I did forget about the size difference, schoolgirl error :p Still I'm wondering about the effect of the reduced gravity. I'd wager we need to fully understand earth's climate before attempting to make another one though, it could be that we'd end up overstepping and creating a new Venus via some unknown variable...

  • @emikochan13 " I'd wager we need to fully understand earth's climate before attempting to make another one"

I tried using that excuse on my Spanish teacher. He said that I would learn better English by learning Spanish. Likewise, we will understand Earth's environment more by making Mars Earth-like. The great thing about Mars is that it can't get much more inhospitable and there is no one there yet to harm! It'll be humanity's environmental testing ground! :D

  • @emikochan13 The thing about living on mars, is we won;t be able to have the gravity the same as on earth, if we were able to terraform mars, humans that live on it would get ALOT thinner due to less use or need of their bones and muscles. Venus we won;t be able to touch, unless we can have space vacuum cleaners to clean the atmosphere up. Mars on the other hand it is possible, and scientists already know how to do it. Living on mars however would change us physically (cont.)

  • @emikochan13 to the point to where if they went back to earth, it would wreak havoc on our bodies. Exercise would be "Mandatory" if we lived on mar's, unless you never have plans to visit earth again!

  • i hope that i land on mars (terraformed) first

  • "Clean up after us?" Evolution is about adapting. That's the way life has always been. If we just change back to what was before we came here, all life that has adapted to the new climate will die. We can't kill, we can only change life.

  • Συμφωνώ πώς σε 100 - 200 χρόνια θα πρέπει να έχουμε βρει λύσεις επιβίωσις εκτός της ΓΗΣ μας.Δια πολλούς λόγους.

  • I think its crucial to begin colonizing space! We can't stay here forever. Oh and for those who say we clean up here first... why? Maybe it will be too late by then? And if space is infinite then it means infinite chances and places to try and do things better.

I hope it happens soon before it's too late. I think the sooner is happens in ones place the faster it will be the next time round on other planets.

  • Nice film.

  • It's not possible to colinise mars at least to live on the surface anyway.

Mars has no magnetic field so nothing to stop solar flares from stripping the atmosphere away.

If we live there it will be far underground to protect us from the savage radiation.

  • just get a huge electromagnet on your back

  • @jimmywrangles

You said something is not possible, dumb comment, everything is possible.

There are already materials being fabricated that can completely shield humans from solar radiation for prolonged times. Not only are these materials and concepts possible shields for solar radiation, they are extremely light and practical to operate on.

For interplanetary flight humans can use the hydrogen fuel thats mainly used for propulsion for shielding. Hydrogen itself easily shields solar particles

  • 9 Planets? O.O

  • @MegaUberChicken you forgot niburu

  • @CptCoolXD There's no such thing as Niburu .... I can't believe people are still falling for that! If you seriously believe those ancient text's, why can't we see it now? They said by 2011 it could be seen by the naked eye, I don't see it, do you?

  • @IBlackPlague someone fails to recognize a joke

  • @CptCoolXD Well there's really no body language, so I guess you fail the at knowing the real world.

  • @IBlackPlague There are two potential causes to this situation. The first suggests that you are overtly aggressive and assertive, likely caused by low self esteem, leading you to attempt to demonstrate the superiority of you and your ideas in situations that do not call for such an effort. However, much more likely in this case is that you simply lack the analytical skills to make a valid judgment of the situation. No one believes in Niburu anymore, it is proven to be false. OBVIOUS JOKE.

  • Why must it be a choice between saving the Earth and colonising mars? We can do both, shave those military budgets boys :)

  • what a load bullsit

  • I just wanted to punch that guy in the face

  • Maybe they should just build a planetary drive that pushes Mars into Earth's orbit, crashing into the moon, and giving us more convenient access to the red planet.

  • what i really hate is how scientist think that life HAS to have oxygen and water.. what proof is there to determine that? comment back.

  • @ironmadion55 Well, we breathe oxygen, and drink water. They are making it so humans and life as we know it can live there, not life that we only theorize of, breathing nitrogen and drinking sulfur. No, we want to terraform it so we can live there, or else we wouldn't bother.

  • it would work and it would be awesome.

  • 0:18 YEAHH!! FUCK THE IAU!!

  • heres what will happen. we terraform mars than all government will go to live on mars. then sending to earth a disease that would wipe most of the population.

  • @xXhighwolfXx What of the government's family? And friends, and family's friends. And all their friends, and all their friends, etc. Yeah, real great plan genius.

  • @Salien1999 wasn't really a plan? im just saying that out in the open like the government would probably do something like that cause there stupid.

  • @xXhighwolfXx No they aren't (the pres is though), if it weren't for the government you wouldn't have light and all that. And you would be stupider than using the wrong theres.

  • @Salien1999 my first comment did you think i was serious? lmao

i didn't mean to start some kind of argument or anything lol.

  • @xXhighwolfXx YES YOU DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII(five years later) IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

    (lol jk)

  • @Salien1999 =C

  • pluto is not a planet

  • @SatoTM3 It's not a fully grown planet, it's kinda like a baby planet. I doubt it will get larger out there though.

  • One day Earth just might get hit by some massive asteroid, gamma ray burst, or something else and then there would still be other humans (or some more evolved human species) out there.

  • I vaguely remember watching this when it was on in 2004.

  • we have to colonise other planets considering the increasing population on earth. look at china, with its constant growing population and economy- it is calculated that china would need another planet the way ithey keep going on.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmm.. At the rate in which technology is advancing I really think mars is looking more and more linley as a place for humans to colonize.. I mean first ittl be mars then maybe even thurther

  • that is true but why dont they rasie the money

  • they show us about it why dont they do it mae it a realitly

  • because terraforming a whole planet would take a lot more money than you could ever imagine

  • @rodhavji

What is 'money'??? simply the distribution of human time and effort.

If we need mars to survive, we will make it our own. End

  • You need more than water and gas to create atmosphere presure, you need mass to create gravity, whith out it you will have bones desorder and mars have only half of the earth gravivy

  • @javierneptuno Actually you'd weigh 1/8 less on mars.. Humans may not be able to enhabit it, but why not put animals from our planet on it and turn it into a planet of Nature untouched by civilization. maybe a species will arise and be intelligent one day.

  • it's not so close to vacuum, 6milibar is enough to create wind. But the martians winds are not strong !!They are electrostatically charged due to the iron rich martian soil and iron is a conductor!

  • there be all out war trying to claim any planet that's terrafarmed humanity explored most of earth we ready for new adventure

  • I believe that human has yet to involve. Their mentality ...

  • yeah. but those who are going to these planets or Mars as is the case, are very prepared people.

  • I think that's the big change in 2012 we are going to discover we are not alone in the galaxy,And it's going to change this planet for ever. Why do you think all these big plans are happening the new moon base in less that 10 years, going to Mars think about it.

  • ffs MARS DOESNT HAVE A PRTECTIVE MAGNETIC FIELD@@@@@@@@@

    solution

make giant satilites to simulate earths magnetic field.

  • What about huge iron towers at the poles? but where would all that iron come from..

  • we can change that thiu dont remember how but i remember how but we can\

  • ''MASSIVE FOREST ON MARS!!! ''

''NASA is lying about Mars ''

To All check these you tube videos

  • There is a lot of thing that need to be investigated but every time something interesting is found NASA LOOK THE OTHER WAY...By the way...How do we have wind on a atmosphere that is close to VACUUM

  • There are winds on Triton, which has an atmosphere

    even thinner than Mars's

  • u mean titan saturns moon

  • Not TRiton, the biggest moon of Neptune.Titan, yes,is the biggest moon of Saturn.

  • THIS Makes me so sick, ...sick lies.

Mars is a green planet, with life in it: vegetations, animals, humanoids ...

..controlled by reptillians ,or at least was controlled till now.

see other videos: Mars Anomalies ect

  • You think all the pictures of mars are a lie? Wow, reptillians...you have pictures??!!

  • hmmm

  • Why not just tug all of these dangerous asteroids into mars including the mars moon Phobos? It would make the planet have more gravity and would solve most of the rest of the terraforming issues.

  • I agree with the fact that we have to save the planet but I also Agree that maybe mars could provide more population room.

However I also think we should use Hydroponic farming and Single Structure Cites to Reduce the Amount of Space used and increase the amount of resources.

  • nasa stands for never a straight answer... they would never tell us if they ever found life... they just let us watch the rockets and a few photos

  • They would have no advantage in hiding anything. And with all the tight cooperation with Canada, Europe, Russia, China and Japan, any hidden information would come out as a scandal if there were such a thing.

  • Transformers? lol.

  • Hmm no robert zubrin, a shame

  • I think this is a great idea. I agree we need to work on earth but you need to understand...Many people are working on saving this planet as well as the many who are working on expanding our horizons and minds.

  • Isn't Venus closer to Earth than Mars?

  • Venus is closer but its also a much more hostile environment. The extreme pressure and heat make it nearly impossible for robotic exploration, much less human exploration...

    That is, with current technology

  • yep, the only way humans will survive is to colonize space. lets face it, because of humans natural lust for power, we've damaged earth and will keep damaging it to the point where colonizing space is the only real possibility. Also, 3 humans are born every second at present which means we have to colonize space to cope with the increasing population. It's unethical to kill humans or stunt the number of pregnancys etc so this has to be done

  • i agree we need a new home. but how could we support that home if the earth runs out of recources. i know that if u heat up moon dust realy hot it becomes water. but how will we get things like oil? how will we continue to supply our bases in the stars? how the hell will we get to light speed? if we started colonising a while ago we might have had a chance. now the chances are slim. low earth orbit is the only colonys out of earth

  • That's hopelessly unrealistic. I agree we should try to save the planet, but even if we do there is only a finite amount of space and there won't be enough room for the growing population. We HAVE to think about colonizing outer space if we're to preserve the species.

  • @lewicron we should do a 1 or 2 child birth policy on every human. If you want more kids, just adopt. Why bring life into this world when you can save one already here? Humans are arrogant and selfish creatures.

  • @IAmTheCthulhu we are truely a mistake of evolution. we are the only multicapibal (not a viruse or germ) that actually repels and damages the environment around us.

  • @MajoraProject we don't nature is constantly balancing everything climate change happens but it should its a good thing.

  • @IAmTheCthulhu A lot of humans are arrogant and selfish creatures, but remember, we *are* genetically programmed to breed as much as possible. Overpopulation is a huge problem, but I'm not sure if I support the idea of caps on childbirth. I see the practicality of it, and the practical need to reduce birth rates, but I think a better way to do so is to significantly reduce poverty and increase education, as more affluent, better educated populations tend to have lower birthrates

  • @lewicron Well it's not like we can jump even to the closest star, it would take thousands of years just to get one ship to go there, we are planning to terraform a lot more planets than Mars you know.

  • @Salien1999 Sorry, can't seem to work out how your comment relates to what i was saying. Pretty sure i was replying to castorini's comment above mine - it was two years ago, so i'm struggling to remember - I'm arguing that we *should* be working towards colonising outer space.

  • @lewicron Keep an open mind, but yes, I agree we need to find other planets like ours away from here, cause we would get more benefits, such as other intelligent (or not) life, get a better sense of scale, and a lot of other things. If we terraform it now, it'll take long, maybe too long! I hate how the government really doesn't like science, if we weren't fighting over shitty oil or whatever, and paid more attention to science, we would be off this planet, or at least further then we are now

  • @lewicron need resources to do that, we need another earth to get them. but who cares what happens to earth, you and i will be dead long before we start colonizing outer space or earth becoming way to over populated. the over population of earth is just a myth, its because media keeps telling us that. america is consuming to much shit, everyone on earth can have food, water, a place to live, but to many greedy people want more

  • @jukio02 yes but it whould cool to have another earth i whould call it reach

  • @bubbajay716 scientist believed to have found an earth like planet, or so they said. wouldnt be surprised if they have found an earth like planet and are keeping it a secret from us.

  • @jukio02 yup theres 2 planets that are earth like called glisea 581 and another earth like planet called goldilox look it up on youtube p.s. there is life in the galaxy its on jupiters moon called europa far far down under the moon there is water the water is the core actully and they say they found sea animals sorry for my spelling im only in the 5th grade

  • @bubbajay716 if your a 5th grader then why are you 19 years old?

  • @jukio02 i am not 19 years old i am 11 years old

  • @bubbajay716 i dont believe u, your profile says 19, so i think your 19

  • @jukio02 no i said that because it wont let 11 year olders have an acount so i lied about my age

  • @bubbajay716 me too im actully ten and 4th grader and I know what the fuck matter is and anti-matter is and matter is a substance that created life on earth and anti-matter is an evil twin of matter so i am so smart

  • @bubbajay716 ist not fact, its just probable.

  • Because you're not thinking long term. It's true that we need to take care of this planet but there are more and more people being born. There will simply not be enough room.We didn't start off on earth so we don't have to end there either.

  • @Saruzu I think you'll find that we did actually start off on Earth.

  • @GusF Actually, we did not start off on Earth. Life on this planet is comprised of atoms that originated from the detritus of dying stars and space dust. Earth didn't just magically pop into existence one day, it (and by extension, us) have been built over countless eons. At an atomic level, we really are simply dust and starstuff. As such, it is only natural that we move out and reclaim what is ours - that is, the empty planets of our own galaxy and beyond. It is in our nature, after all.

  • @Saruzu It'S also a chance for "modern humanity" to start over and beginn something new. a new DIFFERENT civiliziation.

  • @Saruzu Ever heard of the population growth decrease studies? 1st, a country's death rate decreases. Tens to hundreds of years later, the birth rate starts to decrease as well, it's a natural thing. USA, Japan, & a few European nations are almost complete with the change.

  • Dude, let me explain briefly. We people are trying to save Earth, but MAJORITY are trying to destroy it! If I know, you're saying you're gonna save Earth, but in reality, you don't even do a thing that can save the planet.

  • global warming is a scam

  • Because many astronomers have predicted that the Sun will explode in 5 billion years later. The Sun will initially increased its size, swallow Mercury, Venus and the Earth ,and eventually explode. Mars is the only inner planet that survive in lonely orbit .

For the sake of humanity , NASA tries to finde the way, and the new destination for human beings

  • If the Sun does explode, nothing in this solar system will be left.

  • too small

  • Mars will be so hot at that point that we wouldn't be able to live on it anyway. We need to look more at Jupiter's moons. You are also assuming humans will still be around by then.

  • @castorini the whole universe is free for any species
