I heard that some Chinese admit that it smells of shit. Some Chinese food vendors even go as far as using human excrement to make the stinky tofu smell 'stronger'

Smelly tofu (tou do-Fu) has a really strong aroma when I went to mong kok I could smell it across the street, but my mum loved it XD

Great vid. Smelly tofu isn't bad. I think it smells bad when you fry it but you can barely taste it in your mouth.

They stink in completely different ways. But Smelly Tofu I'd say would be considered the sharper of the 2 by most people. HK's smelly tofu however is very much toned down because of complaints from both residents and tourists. So they came up with a 1/4 blooded recipe which barely stinks.

smelly tofu is an acquired test..I used to live in Hongkong.....I love smelly tofu, I always buy it when i go to night market in Mongkok or Jordan....

for the chilli only fish paste is at the beginning. Inside is hollow. for the smelly tofu, it smells a little stingy. Crunchy outside and soft and smooth inside. You need to put some sauce to it but not too much, as the sauce is salty. by the the way, there are 2 types of sauces, the spicy and salty and the sweet one. If you are in Hong Kong, please at least try, the best is sold in Ladies Street name is Kai Kee.
