@b44ts It's not just any v8 dropped into an "old 9000". It's a prototype car with an actual Saab V8 in it, engineered and built by the Finnish Saab factory. They built a very small number of engines before the project was canned. The car they're driving belongs to the auto museum in Nystad, Finland.
This is the only car with the v8 engine in it! There was 5 v8-engines built overall! engine block has been desined and casted in VALMET TRACTOR ENGINE PLANT. The cylinder heands and pistons were from saab 2.0L! same idea was used in Lancia Thema whitch was sharing the same platform with saab 9000 and was useing ferrari v8 engine.(Information is from a saab desinger at that time in Finland!)
@Mawerick77 I wonder why this never made it into development ? development costs on full scale too high ? or just too expensive fuel prices in europe ?
I personally feel the v8 doesnt need a turbo(s), it's not what there about, it's about low rpm high torque smooth and quiet running in my opinion.
MInd you It would have been a bloody dear model I'll bet !!
@Byootox GM bought Saab, they had a "suitable" V6 engine ready and so they ditched the V8 idea. Would've been great though. The V8 was actually being developed here in Finland, without swedes even knowing about it :D
@Mawerick77 I worked For Vauxhall(GM) for a few years and the v6 you speak of in my opinion was pretty poor power wise,awkward to work on and generally not that reliable.
Still GM and especially Ford are good at watering down good quality to there level !
@Byootox IIRC the demo SAAB/SisuDiesel V8 was 4.0 L 300HP / 221ft/lb. It was prettymuch two of the regular 2.0 L engines fitted to together on the same crank. Seeing the amount of power the T5 B204 and B234 engines can produce without much modification, a turbo SAAB v8 would have been a beast. (Not that the prototypes were at all puny)
@saxyweed 300 horses would have really brought the 9000 alive a 4.0 with a pair of turbos would have been up there with the best of the german stuff and also a car that could outlast some of the german stuff too.
Thanks for putting me right Cronn 42 ! I have an 81 model 99 Turbo two door in red that lives in my garage, so it was not bitterness or sarcasm.....

Not really sure why you would bother to fit a v8 in old 9000 ...

This engine is probably hanging around a storage unit in Sweden, forgotten.... I want it

@Travellinghobo2 I would literally fight you to the death for it.

@Travellinghobo2
No, these are "hanging around" in Finland. Check out the museum in Uusikaupunki to see the car and an, additional engine. Seen and heard it IRL
Well worth a visit!!

is that a k jetronic like the 900?
Forsaken1990 11 months ago
@Forsaken1990 The16v 900's had LH-jetronic. Only 8v engines used K-jet. This is a 32 valve engine, so my guess would be LH.

A V8 9000 would have had alot of sales in america.

This is not the only one with V8, is it? 9000 cabriolet have V8 too? How about the limousine? (both are in the museum in Uusikaupunki)

The car sounds great and it seems to be able to really shift.
The 9000 would have been a great bodyshell to have taken the extra torque of the v8.
What was the actual displacement of it
Byootox 2 years ago
@Byootox It's a 4 litre engine. Basically two Saab B202 engines combined.

Yeah, no turbo, how disappointing.
I wish they would have put together 2 200bhp 2.3T :)
