@MsKemzy You'll have to go to either yahoo questions (where I first heard it), Or comic vine, where I know others had. I cannot wait for this myself. I've heard nothing of the author though. Your a casting director?
Forgot L.A. Banks, which has sadly recently passed. She was about the ONLY AA writer in the urban fantasy genre. The same goes for the mystery genre where Valerie Wilson Wesley has a black female PI as the lead. It’s up to us to write these stories featuring characters of our own faces and identities. I personally am working strongly towards this. We can do more than street lit.
@TowelTroi Thanks Towel I have to research them...more authors for me to check out! COOL!! I like fantasy and mystery but I will always LOVEEE science fiction :)
@TowelTroi 100% percent agree. I stumbled across Valerie Wilson Wesley on accident and loved the book. I'm going to look up these writers now and can't wait to read their material and post book reviews on Youtube and Facebook. Here is another writer that I recently discovered Tananarive Due. I'm going to start reading her book "My Soul to Keep"
man i need something new to read i am tired of the urban writers and their redundant stories about sex and cheating men. ive decided to read science fiction but don't know where to start. the authors in your video seem interesting. any others?
@beebee062 try L.A Banks (Vampire Huntress series), Milton Davis (Meji), Valjeanne Jeffers (Immortal series), and Ronald T. Jones (Warriors of Four Worlds) and go to this website for much more blacksciencefictionsociety(.)com
It is unfortunate that science fiction novels written by African Americans face major hurdles that are not faced by their Caucasian counterparts. However, this should not stop African Americans from writing sci-fi novels. There are many African American readers out there who looking for sci-fi novels that are written by African Americans. The challenge is to initially develop a niche market for your book.
@eugeneallenwilson Nola Thompson recently gave a speech at USF to bring more awareness to women in science fiction. I'm hoping that it created positive publicity for her and other African American science fiction writers.
Nice presentation to make people aware of the richness of Black women in sci fi (or speculative fiction if you want to go broader). The great news (and unfortunate because they are in the same category) is that N.K. Jemisin has also been nominated for Nebula Award for Best Novel. Although they are competing I think it is wonderful to see 2 Black women nominated in this category! In film, check out Wanuri Kahiu's "Pumzi".
i wish that their were film and TV series based on these books

Rumor has it that next year, a fantasy will be released featuring a black girl, a real fantasy. Get this!
She's supposed to wield a sword the same size as Gut's in BERSERK!!! Now this is what I've been waiting for! Anyone else hear of it?
