  • @seventeenboi Who gives a fuck how they found the song? At least people are discovering and listening to a song that deserves to be listened too.

  • You seem to come... and go,

    I never seem to know

    wtf amazing song ! ! !

  • i never heard of any of this stuff... i was on ebay 10 mins ago looking up art prints...and BAM chapterhouse and then this... good song.

  • I'm not going to pretend to be a non-conformist and say I didn't come here because of The Perks of Being a Wallflower . . .

  • This song brings back so many painful and awesome memories of my 20's. it's so captivating. Today's kids are missing out on quality music big time!

  • can someone explain this charlie thing to me?

  • @jeffhardywii "Charlie" is a fictional character from Stephen Cbhosky's book called "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", in the book charlie creates a mix tape for his friend. This song is included in the tape.

  • Fuckin' pretty man.

  • i made charlie's playlist into a cd that im giving to all my friends for christmas, with hand drawn covers and everything

  • how high did this single chart in England and the States?

  • "So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be."

  • watch HUNGRY GHOSTS- a haunting

  • :')

  • Les live déchirent.

  • esta buena esta cancion, very good song

  • I love this so much

  • Dear Friend, Love Always

  • The Cure made a song that sort of rips this off, the riff kinda alot. "The Holy Ghost" from 4:13 dream.

Kinda weird, I wonder if Robert did it unconsciously cause he just loves this song. Guy is getting old and a bit batty :)

  • @dano555666 "The Hungry Ghost" actually, but you're right. When I heard the Cure song I knew it sounded familiar, but couldn't place it until I stumbled across this song again and heard the first 8 seconds. Ah well - if you're gonna riff off of other riffs, make sure the original is damn good. Robert got that part right, at least.

  • Somebody requested this on KXLU in LA yesterday. Good call!!

  • I feel infinite.

  • Charlie sent me here...

    Briliant.

  • Dislikes? Pffff!

  • ride good. but the song that charlie described infinite is still in search

    anyone knows it?

  • realmente es una hermosa canción, que a pesar de no ser de mi época, la valoro mucho, a grandes rasgos que hace sentir nostálgica.

  • Just finished a mix tape for a friend, and included this as the last song. Good decision or best decision?

  • @BransonKP Great decision

  • @BransonKP

    best decision.

  • @BransonKP Best decision. The drone outro is the perfect mixtape denouement. Must be a real friend.

  • I was sent here by Noam Chomsky. Thank you for the approach to syntax.

  • I want to 'like' this times infinity!!!!!!! <3

  • creating the perks of being a wallflower playlist now. read it four times in 2 weeks. i don't care what anyone says it's an incredible piece of literature that will no doubt be viewed as a classic in years to come. Chbosky created a masterpiece in charlie, a masterpiece that will live in my mind forever.

  • thumbs up if charlie brought you here. <3

  • first you look so strong, then you fade away...wow... brings back good memories of a time with good friends and good music. one of my favourite bands and song of the 90s. Life was so much more simple back then. I miss it.

  • @stainboy72 Well said mate.

  • How is this copyright 2005? O.o It's older than that innit?

  • thanks stephen chbwosky :)!

  • the perks of being a wallflower

  • I was the 666th Like.

    And I like that.

  • and in that moment, I swear we were infinite

  • @JUANJASSO53204

brilliant words -couldn't sum up the time/ the music any better, and how little the masses knew

  • first u look so strong.... then you. ..

  • Put Charlie's Mixtape into a playlist. <3

The Perks of Being a Wallflower was a life changer, and made me a better person. Am I the only one who doesn't feel so alone anymore?

  • Thanks Charlie

  • Even Ride can't believe, looking back, that the bitchy one-upmanship going on between the two singers was tolerated by their record label on their final release. One half of the CD was Andy Bell, one half Mark Gardiner. And it was as disappointing to the fans as the lousy "Birdman" single promised it would be. If only every song could have been Vapour Trail! (Or Dreams Burn Down)...

  • @rossisland11 Or unfamiliar

  • The pureness of this song will never fade in colour so will your memories of youth :-).

  • @mari5london very true mate, I was just feeling nostalgic, this takes me back to a Ride concert in Brighton in 1991! 20 years and it seems five minutes ago

  • Such a good one here...especially the instrument at the end of the song.

  • Still playin this tune out in sydney and still gettin the response. Bloody love it.

  • click here to hear the following of this song :

    /watch?v=kw1YfzAyhh4&feature=related

  • oh those strings at the end, they take me someplace every time...

  • "omgz i feel sew infinite" shut the fuck up, and stop trying to be Charlie.

  • A book can never make you a better person nor anything else. Only yourself, remember that and don't make everything out to change you just simply enjoy it.

  • I feel infinite.

  • Charlie made me a better person.

  • i am always at awe while listening to the drums in this song. they are so simple, yet so fucking badass. most shoegaze doesn't have the drums in the mix so loudly, which makes nowhere even more unique

  • all you fucking hipsters come here just cuz you read perks god stfu.

  • @nevershoutlindsay Well don't you think that it is a good thing that we are now exposed to this song when otherwise we wouldn't have had the priveledge of hearing it? Just because a book brought us here shouldn't give you the right to dictate who can listen to it and who can't. I'm sure Ride would be delighted to have a new wave of fans, dont you?

  • Incredible song, incredible band.

  • Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • infinite.

  • Cruelty to creatures we do not understand seems limitless.

  • so underrated. i love it when i come across a song as beautiful as this

  • who the FUCK is Nick Jonas, I clicked on this to hear Ride, what the fuck???

  • if i was the one whom Charlie had given "One Winter" to, i would love him to death. the songs are just... wow. magnificent.

  • I remember reading Perks of Being a Wallflower long ago. There was a list of songs in the books I don't remember the context of right now, but I do remember discovering Ride and The Smiths ("Asleep") as a result. Probably led to me exploring a genre of music I would otherwise have been oblivious to .... this song is timeless. I fell asleep to it last night.

  • Leave Them All Behind.

  • PERKS!

  • Finished the book in a few hours. All I have to say... wow. Incredible. This is the perfect song for the book in my opinion. And this is comming from someone who never reads. Thank you Charlie. I feel like im a better person just by reading your letters. My life is forever changed. Thank you.

  • @AFlockOfBeagulls charlie took me here too!! i'm looking up his "winter kind of songs" playlist.. :))

buying that book was one of the best decisions i've made. lol, and i was just window shopping when i saw it.. :))

  • @AFlockOfBeagulls What book are you talking about? :)

  • @liammcfc Perks of Being A Wallflower =]

  • @nenecupcake ok, thanks for replying. I'll have to try this book :)

  • @AFlockOfBeagulls Buddie. I readied in one interview of Andy Bell (vocal) where he telling that their inspiration for Ride music are some books, art, writers, 60's etc. So I will just say: You are on good track thinking about books. Their song Seagull is also inspired by same book title Seagull written by Jonathan Livingston. Greetings from me, Serbia!

  • Nevermind that last comment I made. Normally I hate people who go on youtube and say stuff like "Who else come here after hearing some dude sing this on american idol" or stuff like that. But I just read the wikipeadia article on The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I am off to borders now.

  • Man, this is good! There's no words...

  • Best Brit-pop Song I've ever listened!!!

  • @xjapan1231 It is a classic, though I'd not categorize it as Brit-Pop. I know labels ultimately mean nothing...but I'd call it shoe-gaze. More influenced by The Bryds/Velvet Underground than The Beatles/Kinks.

  • i feel its Sunday night

    watching 120 Minutes on MTV

  • This song is so damn sad.

  • @l33tmaster104 This song is so damn good.

  • wow i got the cassette lol

  • I have always loved Ride, but i am glad that these youtube comments have introduced me to Perks. Like most of you i finished it in the first few hours i started, just couldn't put it down. If you are still in High school, it makes you love the book even more

    Love Always,

    Charlie

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one looking these all up:) asleep by the smiths deserves being mentioned as much as it was for sureee if you didn't look it up do it now!

  • shoegaze in general should come with a disclaimer that says "LISTEN AT HIGH VOLUME OR GTFO" because i mean really, it's impossible to get any feeling out of it without turning it up

  • Ride was never fully appreciated

  • @Spinndry true

  • @Spinndry - Yeah they were. I liked them.

  • thank you stephen for giving us charlie

  • remind me the stone roses

  • @amirs74 I had the same first thought

  • when WB released gold-taste music....

  • Best band ever!!Wake up Andy!!!!

  • and seven people have no taste!

  • back in the day. i saw Lush with Ride in Toronto, Slowdive & Ride (together) in Toronto. good times, sadly long gone.

  • Crimen Sollicitationis

  • I was completely mesmerized by shoegaze when I discovered it in 1991 (with the release of Loveless). I was 19. Shoegaze/dreampop has been my favorite genre ever since, and now I'm almost 40. During that time I was fortunate enough to see Lush, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, and many others. Even got to meet Miki and Emma, have drinks with Simon Raymonde, and got a smile from Liz Fraser. Those were some of the best days of my life! Glad to see this style of music make it's comeback!

  • and in that moment, i swear we were infinite.

  • My beautiful wife Joann, i love you more than the world. stay beautiful my sweet sweet girl.

  • @CoolVicMoney4 , awww...... :D

  • This is one of my favorit!! :)

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded

  • I love this song!!!!!!!! I had no clue who sang it or what it was called and i just found out now!!!! This is my forever favorite song!!!!!!!

  • Love it, Timeless.

  • i hope everyone who reads this has a song that means as much to them in their lives as this song means to me.

this is my favorite song that was ever written

  • @SwanQuartz Shoegaze here, emo's that-a-way.

  • Perks is being filmed in my neighborhood, because it takes place here.

  • @cbellini56 you are so lucky that would be the greatest thing ever to happen to me. wish i was you right now.

  • @mycatsnotdead I love them both, This one is more up but I can´t help to listen to the otherone while I take a shower or when I´m just chilling.

  • @XAmbar182X what other one

  • @XAmbar182X so u listen to the softer one while showering??? What do u do in there??

    Touch uerself haha

  • @XAmbar182X jk jk

  • i saw Ride with Lush in Toronto way, way back (just when Nowhere was released). i went alone cause my friends had not realized the true brilliance of the music. Ride were fantastic and then saw them again with Slowdive.

  • Ride's Nowhere or My Bloody Valetine's Loveless? For me, it's Loveless. but I still really like this.

  • WTF is going on with music today? :-(

  • I had heard this band before but The Perks of Being A Wallflower made me want to listen again. Can't wait to see the movie, hope it's good.

  • @PotatoeShinz theres a movie?

  • @MissChelby Yeah, Emma Watson as Sam...and Oprah Winfrey...as hell if I know..

  • bill seemed like more of a rapist in the story than aunt Helen to be honest. because acted too personal toward charlie. i kinda wish charlie was gay. um my favorite quote is: “Something really is wrong with me. And I don’t know what it is.” (137) yeah well i had to reread the part about aunt Helen molesting him cuz it wasn’t obvious at first. i love this book more than i love the book “the boy in the striped pajamas. This book reminds me of the movie “Mysterious Skin”

  • @creamandsteve in the story aunt helen wasnt a rapist, she was raped. and yea bill did seem kinda creepy

  • just about the most perfect song I can think of. beautiful. and i miss the 90's

  • Memories of walkin thru green suburban Dublin estates with this tune loud as fuck on my headphones happy days

  • I'm reading "Perks of Being a Wallflower" right now and moving down all the songs from the list. This book is trippy, but good!

  • @Bitsy83 I just finished it. I liked the book. But at the same time...ehh you know?

  • @dzs007 Yeah, like.....honestly, I think I'd enjoy this more as a movie than reading it as a book. Good story, though. Very nostalgic for us 90's teens. How much do you want to bet they'll use this song in the trailer?

  • Haunting

  • Beautiful. I love the songs mentioned in The Perks of being a wallflower, they are so great.

  • it is for sure one of the most beautiful songs ever.

  • absolutly awesome song it has to be one of my favs

  • Legendary song of RIDE

  • who can resist hitting the repeat button repeatedly when listening to this. I find myself playing it three or more times each with increasing volume as in a repeated cathartic mantra

  • Is this a cover of Trespassers William or Trespassers William did a cover of this?

  • Makes me want to kill myself.

  • Absolutely incredible. Moody, emotional, and intelligent. The color scheme is amazing as well. It connects with the emotion of the song. A true classic. I love it!!!

  • 2005 wtf?

  • いまだに聴き続けてる

  • It gives me the chill down me spine, it's so beautiful ...........

One of my favorite Ride songs

  • Song for my love. Not having such a good day interstate. To the past and our future Xx I'm blissful in your vapour trail @melissa_shawyer

  • 20 ans plus tard, c'est toujours magnifique!

(musique plus que le filmage d'époque en fait)

  • 20 ans plus tard, c'est toujours magnifique!

  • Kevin Kerslake is a flippin' genius. I would love to see a collection of his videos on DVD someday, very much like what Palm Pictures did with its Director's Label series a few years ago.

  • man who has trouble knowing who is who when you looking at Andy bell and Laurence Colbert???????????

  • I want this song to be played at my funeral.
