If it was their retirement plan, they would receive what they pay in plus interest - they don't. their name would be attached to the payments into SS through the years, it is not. Current workers are paying current benefits. There is no savings and there is no individual accounts. The age to receive this entitlement should be raised to protect the program and to reflect the reality that we are all living longer.

People are living longer in retirement and there taking much more of SS than they ever paid into the system. This is why today SS is paying out more than it takes in and why it will be broke in less than 20 years. The why is far far less to do with vaccinations and more to do with end of life care and better plumbing (clean water, waste removal).

I understand the importance of the jobs picture in the states mentioned here. We should transition to clean energy and infrastructure rebuilding with those jobs. It can and should be done. If we're spending tax dollars on war be should be spending that money or a nation rebuild and energy system upgrade and renewal. This will create more diverse jobs overall.
