  • the "grided" panels,do you mean the mesh grill panels on the left and right sides of the tractor? if they slide out of the way then i'm good to go i think. also have you ever used your ether cold start assist(the screw cap device low on your dash board)?

  • @crabtrap ya the grided panels and no we dont use it we just pull back the grid panel an stray up into the intake. which u will clearly see

  • countrykid, sorry to bug you again but can you tell me where the air cleaner is on the 2640? i found the snorkel(it runs up near the nose cone) but i have no idea how to access the air cleaner assemble.is it under the nose cone?

  • @crabtrap dont worry about it. and if ur talking about the air filter it will be in the front of the tractor. the 2 side panels that are grided like. they pull back and then i dont remember which side its on but on one side there will be a cylinder in there with a wing nut on it undo that take that cap off and then there will be another wing nut that holds the filter in place. then u can remove it an do what you want with it. clean it or whatever. but urs could differ. keep me posted.

  • @countrykid1640 ok i got to the air box so i'm good now.i would have not figured that mesh panel thing out for about a month! thx for the tip.i just want to be ready for when the temp drops below 30 f around here. i'm planning on using the block heater with an old hair dryer blowing in the intake(intake heater) to fire the old girl up instead of the ether spray, which can damage a deisel engine over time.

  • @crabtrap we use the ether but very small amounts. but we plug it in most the time or we try to plug it in a day ahead of when we will use it. ours starts in about 30F thats it if its lower then that she will crank over to slow and jus smoke an not fire. but we have had some times where it was 25 an it starts but thats once in a blue moon

  • @countrykid1640 ya it was about 25f today and that was the limit for normal starting.

so i plugged it in and put a heaver rubberized tarp over the engine with a worklight underneath to bump the temp up under the tarp. after about couple hours it fired right up. i'm in Ohio so we only get down to about 0 degrees a few times a winter.it's nice to know i can get her up and running in those temps top plow(1100' drive way)

  • @crabtrap ya its a great tractor works for a number of things and that is one long ass driveway

  • country boy,i have a 2640 Question ; i have a 1979 2640 and i don't know what the pto lever by left foot does .it has the pto "gear" icons stamped on tranny case and a flat steel lever.is this for a 540 /1000 rpm dual pto speed?

  • @crabtrap as far as ik that lever disables the pto and enables it. meaning if u have it one way and u pull the handle to use the pto it wont work untill u put that lever back into the on side.

  • @countrykid1640 thanks,so its kind of a useless feature considering there is already a pto engage.is thewre any real benefit to it?

  • @crabtrap i know what you mean, and in a way there is like this one in this video its gotten to the point to where when its cold the pto still will spin unless you disengage it with that lever. or if for some reason u just never use the pto and figure its not worth leaving engaged

  • @countrykid1640 well they are still great tractors so u take the good with the not so good i guess! thanks for the info

  • @crabtrap no problem, there great tractors. they get the job done and full of power for there size. we use it all the time we plant beans with it spray fields, pull corn wagons in the fall with it. we pull a max of 2 full wagons at a time which comes out to about 10 tons. not bad for its size and being only a 4 cylinder non turbo. i think it would sound bad ass with a turbo tho

  • @countrykid1640 well i'll definatly watch the video of you putting on a turbo conversion : ) like the sign at the hot rod shop says "it's not a matter of how much power you want,it's a matter of how much money you have!" . Have a good Thanksgiving bud

  • @crabtrap it would be nice. though so idk will see what happins. and thanks you too

  • nice tractor ;)

  • ya ik it is. we started it up colder this year. we started it up when it was about 20 or so out and it started up just fine. but a little rough idle

  • This a is a 70-hp utility tractor.
