This all pure conjecture surely. What about a spring in winter? Even Al Gore is not claiming we can change the seasons.

@hkjjscm This is a bit late, but yes, you take out the initial extension first, then you measure the extensions caused by equal increments of added mass. They can be arbitrary(unknown) masses, so long as they're all the same.
