Finally, a Canadian team in MLS worth something (outside of DeRo). TFC provides nothing for MLS in CCL, hopefully the whitecaps can win the Canadian championship and contribute there.
welcome Vancouver whitecaps to the mls! the TFC vs Whitecaps games are going to be intense and amazing!!! the battle of Canada! cant wait!!! TFC FOR LIFE!
I'm looking forward to seeing football take off in america - i think that with the culture and diversity america has it will produce a brand of football found no where else in the world.
@Herb615 Right because Canada is knowen around the world for soccer, how far did you guys get in the world cup last summer? oh wait you were not there....Well what about 4 years before that? Wait...never mind.
The MLS doesnt have "real" fans. Look at the Premier League, we have teams still going today that began in the 1800's, we have tradition in our game, supporting a football team is passed on from generation to generation, from father to son. The MLS is fabricated football, a fake league almost, you may play the same sport but there is no passion, no tradition thus in my mind pointless
congratulations to Vancouver (and also in Portland) I hope that football will become a sport in North America much later as in Europe, Africa and South America Hello from Naples (Italy)
I really hope we never get that much smaller waterfront stadium. Because when we get the renovated BC place. Its going to be the perfect place for the whitecaps to share with the lions.
What do you mean ? Or are they getting that fake turf ? Is that what you are saying ? If so i thought i heard Turf was the best to play on. I could be wrong not sure.
Now that i think about it. I dont even know if the BC Lions football team. Played on real or fake grass. I never really noticed or thought about it. I dont see why they cant have real grass.
I dont know either ha. The thing is BC place is being massively renovated. Bran new retractable fabric roof. But not offten every part of the field will have sun shinning on it. So they would need to use some special grass that dont need sun.
You mean a hard retractable roof ? Whats wrong with a fabric retractable roof. If anything its more unique . Because their is only a couple like that in the word.
Its going to be the biggest cable suspended stadium in the world.
Everyone is doing hard surface rooms. I think its cool they are doing a fabric retractable roof.
That is just me though ha. Are you not down with that idea ? Germany has one its real nice.
Hey, what's with the clip of the Red Bulls scoring on the Whitecaps around minute 1:40? Seems pretty weird to have a highlight of another team destroying your defense to score on YOUR promo video. Seems like something the Whitecaps would do. Portland's MLS promo is a masterpiece compared to this overly dramatic Enya-esque video. No grit or dirt, but then again it's not the Timbers. @VancouverMLS2011 Yeah okay but why is it even in there? You have to admit this video is pretty bland from a supporters perspective. For example there really aren't many good crowd scenes. I like how that funny looking bear is running around and the crowd goes mild.. I'm not saying this b/c Timbers fan. Maybe I'm ignorant of the historical rivalry but only the Flounders "bother" me. Vancouver is a great city and I even think your new logo looks decent but cmon.. you know this video kinda sucks.
@renegademag Actually I absolutely loved the Timbers logo unveiling video (is that the one you mean?) the only problem with it was well er... the actual logo.. :(
New logo is a slight improvement I guess (still think the large white axe is a little weird looking.. It actually would look completely like an OUTLINE of an axe except for the tiny line separating the handle). Personally I like the unveiling video that shows the crowd reaction. Classic! Go TIMBERS!!!!

i think the bc place is gping to be empty in all the games, because i think in canada hockey is the first sport and soccer, or football like we call it here in europe, will be like in l.a, or in salt lake city, only for a few fans. Im so sorry and sad for this situation, but is the truth
@andyz85 MLS is an upgrade from the USL and outside of the Mexican first division it is the best league in North America. You're right though, they should just up and go to the EPL.
The MLS should be hunting down every CFL field for expansion. Toronto and Vancouver are already in. Now we need Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Ottawa.
@simonizer888 Why not a Canadian Football League? I mean, you are more than welcome to join the MLS, but isn't a league of your own, something you would like to have in the future?
@vivelavidarocka I agree. But you have to remember that the MLS is profit-driven. They have to make money or else the league folds. It would be boring if you had an all US league: US team vs. a US team. Come on! Don't be so selfish! But if you had a Canadian team vs US team, you're helping both the countries soccer programs. Plus, you're letting cities that go under the radar some identity. It'll be interesting if Hamilton takes on Portland, or Regina takes on Chivas USA. =o)
The South just tends to be a lot of rednecks who refuse to believe anything other than american football is a sport. I know because I live down here and it's a damn shame.
Where you have a generally better educated and open-minded population like in the Pac NW, California, or the North, you get people who love soccer because it's the world's game.
Well, maybe after Vancouver and Portland, maybe MLS will toss in a bunch of east coast teams. Not just Montreal, but other places up and down the coast, maybe Winnepeg or Ottawa, or Atlanta or somewhere in the south.
A nice presention, Vancouver Whitecaps welcome to MLS. Its getting to be a first class league. Good luck for the future, the pacific north west is starting to get exciting.
I totally agree with you, Ive been living in Argentina for some years now and became a HUUUGE football fan. Im going back to Miami soon and am going to miss the emotion that football matches bring out in me =( so hopefully Miami gets a football team real soon! even though Miami is well known to have lousy sports fans, which I must admit is very true.
The next MLS will go to Canada depending on how Phily does. If Phliy does bad than the next 2 would be Motreal and Ottawa and the MLS would be another NHL. With the Canadian teams making all the money. The MLS is Going to stop expanding at 20 than they would buy the USL and expand to 24. and start the promotion and demotion format.
i agree with this because i would love to see a relegation format to make the season a bit more interesting towards the last few weeks but i wouldnt plan on it happening atleast 10 or so years after all 20 teams are settled.. and can establish a fan base
well philly is having open tryouts with 5,000 plus expectants so pretty much all of the north western american soccer players wiht a dream went there, I hope to see some talent with philly. ill be 15 when the whitecaps come and most teams have open tryouts 2 - 3 years into theyre coming into the league, so hopefully ill tryout around 16 or 17 for vancouver.
They will be at BC Place in 2011. The stadium renderings shown in the vid are what BC Place will look like after the ongoing renovations are complete.
what i dont get is why dont they have Ottawa and Montreal in the picture of coming as expansions to the MLS i know Montreals bid was rejected but Soccer/Football is WAAAAAAAAY bigger in Canada than it is in USA they have money to waste on stadiums that are gonna fill-up half way. HELLO resetion and US is getting hit the hardest
notice though how every soccer team pretty much has the city's name as the frontrunner all except vancouver heck 86ers or whitecaps still don't tell the world where it's from-at least toronto got it right!
Vancouver, Seattle and Portland are the best cities in the NW and now they will all have MLS teams this is gonna be sweet. The two coming in 2011 will not rival the image that the Sounders FC has projected but they could be as successful on the field. Glad we found a sport that will thrive over here I know Vancouver and Portland are HUNGRY for these teams.
Portland is hungry for our MLS team, but in no way to I envy the image the Sounders have prefabricated. Guerilla marketing tactics, chants pumped over the PA system, a marching band (LOL)... you keep that image. Portland already has an identity mate.
Oh yeah, do not forget upside down Tifo! We'll remember to keep ours right side up!
Great for MLS ive been a big supporter since 1996....but does anyone else think the Philly Union crest looks like a pile of poop.....google the image and look at it .... it looks like a big stinky pile of shit....
I actually like the crest. It seems more official than the Red Bull's symbol [i mean a sponsor name for a team?] or the revs or the fire or columbus crew. No disrespect to the teams or their football but the Union's crest seems more serious.
they BETTER be called the whitecaps. they have the best name int he NW! Seattle fans rallied to keep their name, San Jose fans rallied to keep their name you whitecap fans rally to keep your name!
can someone please please please tell me wat the name of the song is that starts at 1:17 is or if the whole song is put together but watever please just tell me the name of the song please if u know
rends you idiot vancouver's team name is not 2011 thats the year it will play its first mls game. scorej6 y wud u thinks the revs wud beat vancouverif they beat red bulls. the redbulls have 9 points midway into the season. dc united however are the best. weve one 12 cups in all how many have the "revs" won
I think Vancouver its going to be great expansion team for MLS i hope all the Vancouver fans suport their team like the Toronto and Seattle fans do, i'm a huge L.A. GALAXY fan and i go to all their home games.
you know what would be good? if the mls expands to 30 teams, they did like a playoff thing with the premiership, that would be cool in my opinion. its nice to see the sport expanding over the atlantic
Fantastic to see soccer growing like this in the US and Canada. A Vancouver-Seattle-Portland rivalry will be great. Hopefully i'll be able to leave Ontario for Vancouver by the time this all happens.
Lets hope that the new 'Caps stadium will have natural grass instead of plastic.
Because by watching TFC and the fans, they seem alwaysselling out, I think we wouldnt have any other probleme with other canadian team selling out also.
And would also bring recpect from other club around the world. anywait, good luck Vancouver in 2011. see ya on Wednesday P.S Can they put a roof at BMO field for fuck sake, Also put some grass and add 10 000 seat extras. there still 15.000 fans waiting for tickets. Can't wait for Montreal Impact to join MLS.
is the name of the team Vancouver MLS 2011 ? That's freaking AWESOME !!! I hope they keep it like that, it's original, it's a soccer team's name, it reminds me of TSV 1860 Munchen.
They should keep it like that and not screw it up like the Americans giving it baseball names. Soccer is not baseball. Go Vancouver 2011 !
I grew up following the Whitecaps as a wee lad and can remember the amazing atmosphere at Empire stadium. I used to live five blocks away from the stadium. TO has twice the pop of Vancouver and the 2nd largest Italian community aside from NY, but Van is the true soccer centre of Canada in terms of talent and tradition. You think Toronto FC fans are nuts about their team? You ain't seen nothin' yet. Van will also have the a beautiful waterfront stadium, the most picturesque in all of NA.
No doubt Fifaman... Soccer is making a comeback in Canada and North America in general. Good to so Toronto FC doing so well. If my new business ventures start of well later this year, I will be grabbing season's tickets for sure.
hey, sorry im crap with geography but is vancouver and toronto gonna have a massive canadian derby that rivals Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory? would be cool though
nah, van will prob have derby with portland. we are thousands of miles apart... but the matches will be huge and definitely heated.. just not derby material... ours would be closer if montreal or ottawa get in
ahh ok. theres this talk of adding 2 more sides into the a-league next season and already if its confirmed that theres gonna be a western sydney team and another melbourne team, and already theres talks of hate goin around. i think it could get pretty heated and the derby would be so massive cos they're closer.
anyway, melbourne hate us that much they refer to us as Scum FC and we refer to them as TARDS and its been like that for a while now and i dont expect that to change even ever
Im so excited for Portland AND Vancouver to get MLS teams. Soccer has been so amazing in Seattle, and it will get even better with drunken train trips up North and down South. Bring it P-town and Couver, Seattle is waiting!
Yeah I'm prety excited forVancouver because it's another Canadian soccer team but I gotta admit, I rather have Montreal join before Vancouer just because I think they have more of a history and re actually rivals with TFC
TFC... what a laugh... keep spending your money on rohan ricketts and chad barrett jerseys... yawn... a seattle expansion team assembled more talent than TFC could manage in 3 years... Whitecaps have far superior youth academy with residency that should be a brighter magnet for Canadian youth and a stronger franchise... so while MLSE is good at marketing hope to their fans, there's reason for us to actually have it... look forward to knocking you out of CL again this year!

HELLO resetion and US is getting hit the hardest
DequanDC4Clarke 2 years ago
notice though how every soccer team pretty much has the city's name as the frontrunner all except vancouver heck 86ers or whitecaps still don't tell the world where it's from-at least toronto got it right!

forget the lower bowl, Vancouver should try to fill the entire stadium.

Vancouver, Seattle and Portland are the best cities in the NW and now they will all have MLS teams this is gonna be sweet. The two coming in 2011 will not rival the image that the Sounders FC has projected but they could be as successful on the field. Glad we found a sport that will thrive over here I know Vancouver and Portland are HUNGRY for these teams.
soundersnation 2 years ago
Portland is hungry for our MLS team, but in no way to I envy the image the Sounders have prefabricated. Guerilla marketing tactics, chants pumped over the PA system, a marching band (LOL)... you keep that image. Portland already has an identity mate.
Oh yeah, do not forget upside down Tifo! We'll remember to keep ours right side up!
hhhhhwhat 2 years ago 4
portland will never be relevant, even with a mls team

Great for MLS ive been a big supporter since 1996....but does anyone else think the Philly Union crest looks like a pile of poop.....google the image and look at it .... it looks like a big stinky pile of shit....
zidane81 2 years ago
I actually like the crest. It seems more official than the Red Bull's symbol [i mean a sponsor name for a team?] or the revs or the fire or columbus crew. No disrespect to the teams or their football but the Union's crest seems more serious.

...yet they're still not certain that they'll be called Whitecaps?!!
unak78 2 years ago
they BETTER be called the whitecaps. they have the best name int he NW! Seattle fans rallied to keep their name, San Jose fans rallied to keep their name you whitecap fans rally to keep your name!

Seattle FC Vs. Vancouver White Caps. Now that's something I look foward to seeing. :D

its really nice to see more Canadian teams enter the the premier tier of American-Canadian football!
thecalmmusicalspirit 2 years ago 5
"premier tier" that makes us sound fancy. but after La Galaxys show tonight.....i can only shake my head in disappointment.
xbattlecatx 2 years ago
don't feel bad... America/Canada.. eventually we'll get there
thecalmmusicalspirit 2 years ago
you know what would be good? if the mls expands to 30 teams, they did like a playoff thing with the premiership, that would be cool in my opinion. its nice to see the sport expanding over the atlantic
RICSteroid08 2 years ago
Fantastic to see soccer growing like this in the US and Canada. A Vancouver-Seattle-Portland rivalry will be great. Hopefully i'll be able to leave Ontario for Vancouver by the time this all happens.
Lets hope that the new 'Caps stadium will have natural grass instead of plastic.

Am a fan of Toronto FC and I would like to say welcome to the MLS,
and its about time you join in. sick and tired wathing TFC playing those stupid
american team that doesnt have a good Fans base. And what up with Columbus Crew having
Cheerleaders in there stadium. Your destroying SOCCER/FUTBALL people; and your making MLS look bad.
Why do they put Cheerleader in every fucking sport there is, including hockey.
Anywait my anger is out lol.

Man we should creat are own canadian league; like the canadian nutrilite but with more teams and drop from MLS.
Like putting Toronto, montreal, vancouver, quebec City, edmonton,
calgary, ottawa and all the other big city's because alot of canadians like soccer And it should be
are seconde best watch sport after Hockey. We need a summer sport anywait. And also we would have more respect from others league in europe.
StonerCrew420 2 years ago
wish Halifax could afford a professional team of any sort
ShadowHnt3r 2 years ago

No, I'm not joking. Why do I get the feeling you're going to say something incredibly ignorant ?
I've been watching soccer my whole life, European, and South American, and Vancouver 2011 is a great name for a soccer team, period.

who are the white caps??
from europe
josebaunai 2 years ago
the Whitecaps are a Canadian [Football] team who play in Vancouver, BC. they are 35 years old, play in USl-1
in the CSL they were league champions 4 times. Since joining USL-1 they have been playoff champions twice.
They are entering the MLS, which is the highest tier of North American soccer, beginning in the 2011 season
cheers, from Canada
cclbrules 2 years ago 21
I grew up following the Whitecaps as a wee lad and can remember the amazing atmosphere at Empire stadium. I used to live five blocks away from the stadium. TO has twice the pop of Vancouver and the 2nd largest Italian community aside from NY, but Van is the true soccer centre of Canada in terms of talent and tradition. You think Toronto FC fans are nuts about their team? You ain't seen nothin' yet. Van will also have the a beautiful waterfront stadium, the most picturesque in all of NA.
forexdragon 2 years ago
its gunna be awesome to have a coast to coast rivalry of the best future fans in the mls, van vs tor. gunna be sick
FIFAMAN07C3 2 years ago 2
No doubt Fifaman... Soccer is making a comeback in Canada and North America in general. Good to so Toronto FC doing so well. If my new business ventures start of well later this year, I will be grabbing season's tickets for sure.

hey, sorry im crap with geography but is vancouver and toronto gonna have a massive canadian derby that rivals Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory? would be cool though
robbie84 2 years ago
nah, van will prob have derby with portland. we are thousands of miles apart... but the matches will be huge and definitely heated.. just not derby material... ours would be closer if montreal or ottawa get in
TFCB0Y 2 years ago
ahh ok. theres this talk of adding 2 more sides into the a-league next season and already if its confirmed that theres gonna be a western sydney team and another melbourne team, and already theres talks of hate goin around. i think it could get pretty heated and the derby would be so massive cos they're closer.
anyway, melbourne hate us that much they refer to us as Scum FC and we refer to them as TARDS and its been like that for a while now and i dont expect that to change even ever
robbie84 2 years ago
Im so excited for Portland AND Vancouver to get MLS teams. Soccer has been so amazing in Seattle, and it will get even better with drunken train trips up North and down South. Bring it P-town and Couver, Seattle is waiting!

ricco773 2 years ago 2
Yeah I'm prety excited forVancouver because it's another Canadian soccer team but I gotta admit, I rather have Montreal join before Vancouer just because I think they have more of a history and re actually rivals with TFC
CallMeDavethx 2 years ago
TFC... what a laugh... keep spending your money on rohan ricketts and chad barrett jerseys... yawn... a seattle expansion team assembled more talent than TFC could manage in 3 years... Whitecaps have far superior youth academy with residency that should be a brighter magnet for Canadian youth and a stronger franchise... so while MLSE is good at marketing hope to their fans, there's reason for us to actually have it... look forward to knocking you out of CL again this year!
