  • maybe he already was, and the coffee lady had to do it. I am a bit in doubt about this toyota in the race, wasn't the engine too different to be actually competitive with the other cars? I can build a hydrid with V12 motor and 1000 kWatt hybrid engine that can win any race[*], but does that really say something about how good hybrid technology is?

  • your right, hybrids are a joke IMO, Its just toyota making money of "save the earth" type people. If they really wanted to keep emisions down they could just by a little 675cc Fiat

  • I'm not saying hybrids are a joke per se, but it all depends what you do with the technology. What happens now is that they get optimized for performance, not for emissions or mileage. Used like that, it is indeed a gas-guzzling joke with a big rainbow button on it. The same happened with german diesels. Diesels now are just as fast as petrol cars, and get just a bit lower mileage. The same engineering effort could have been used for low-emission cars, but that still doesn't sell enough.

  • I agree completely and putting non-recycleable batteries and charging systems into our cars reduces emmisions but does not reduce overall pollution. Wierd. I am all for hybrid increase of performance, but the best way to good gas mileage is 100% electric, although I am waiting to see the new Subaru 2.5L diesel next year!

  • that was me. sorry 'bout the inconsistancy. it was extremely windy up there. if we had the gear, i would have thrown a 4x4 reflector board soft-side out on a low-boy combi stand. and that would also require 300 lbs of sandbags to keep it from taking the very lovely ji young right out. sometimes you gotta just make do, ya know?
