@hashkashkabash it all depends on how fast your goin and where your rpms are at... if your in 1st goin 20-30... it will shift already... but if you give it full throttle then it will down shift back to 1st and top out around 40-45... it all depends on what your doing... let it roll around 10-15 mph before you step on it...

I am in the market to buy one of these used. Found a 2000 model 3.2TL for reasonable price with about 200000kilometers on it. Any TL owner out there who had problems with the transmission, because i hear they are the worst part about the car.
HAHAHAHA, thats funny, it just so happens i HAVE a 350z, track edition, and you right on a certain level, ya it is a luxury car but also somewhat of a sports car too, my neighbor has an 05 TL, the g35 is a luxury car too and they haul ass, hell your engine is only .3 liters smaller then my 350z and the g35, not even 1/2 a liter difference (assuming yours is the 3.2 v6), not a huge difference, have fun with it!!
when I raced a 06 tl my 04 tl was a bit faster so there is a difference in them we used tip tronic shifting and traction control off so there you go the 04 05 is faster than any 06 07 the S is a bit faster

The solution would be to buy a manual 6-speed, all automatic acura's are that way, 5 gears but you top out in 4th. With a manual you top out in 5th if it has a topspeed limiter, then you can top it out in 6th. the more gears means you have smaller ratio's, thats why 4th is crap cause it has a tall ratio, and lack of torque and you'll be climbing for a while.
so yeah the 6-speed legend is much much quicker than 4-speed auto. Thats why the new IS-F has 8 gears, makes better use of the powerband!

The Acura TL is a great car. My dad thought it was faster than the honda 2004 accord (240 hp). But the acceleration adjusts with your personal preference (computer in the tl), so it seems like the TL is slower. But, i tried to see if my dad was right, and i stepped all the way on the gas on both cars, and the TL is much better in both acceleration and everything else. Obviously...sexy.

Your pretty much right, but there are exceptions. For a fact i know that almost all automatics installed on 3.2L V6 Honda powerplants had recalls on them for failures. But, Honda has revised many of them. I've also seen civic automatics fail at around 40K miles, again their are exceptions, some go well over 150K miles. Might depend on the level of abuse and level of maintenance that the tranny goes through.

Well, i get a few extra MPG out of the car with a CAI, party due to more low-end torque so i don't need to rev it above 2K RPM to get moving u know. CAI gives off a nice rumbling sound at higher RPM (vtec range). Other than that, there's no other advantages.

HAHAHAHA, thats funny, it just so happens i HAVE a 350z, track edition, and you right on a certain level, ya it is a luxury car but also somewhat of a sports car too, my neighbor has an 05 TL, the g35 is a luxury car too and they haul ass, hell your engine is only .3 liters smaller then my 350z and the g35, not even 1/2 a liter difference (assuming yours is the 3.2 v6), not a huge difference, have fun with it!!

when I raced a 06 tl my 04 tl was a bit faster so there is a difference in them we used tip tronic shifting and traction control off so there you go the 04 05 is faster than any 06 07 the S is a bit faster

The solution would be to buy a manual 6-speed, all automatic acura's are that way, 5 gears but you top out in 4th. With a manual you top out in 5th if it has a topspeed limiter, then you can top it out in 6th. the more gears means you have smaller ratio's, thats why 4th is crap cause it has a tall ratio, and lack of torque and you'll be climbing for a while.
so yeah the 6-speed legend is much much quicker than 4-speed auto. Thats why the new IS-F has 8 gears, makes better use of the powerband!

please im a is300 owner and lexus cars are not built for speed when my o3 is300 came out it had 215hp while everyone else BMW,Acura,Honda, and the other competitors to the is300 had at least 245 I was looking at is250's to replace the is300 with I think I'll have a TL dont get me wrong the is300 is fun just not fast by any means and a is250 is even weaker with only 204 hp and somewhere in the neighborhood of 3300lbs and that coming from a lexus owner

The Acura TL is a great car. My dad thought it was faster than the honda 2004 accord (240 hp). But the acceleration adjusts with your personal preference (computer in the tl), so it seems like the TL is slower. But, i tried to see if my dad was right, and i stepped all the way on the gas on both cars, and the TL is much better in both acceleration and everything else. Obviously...sexy.

Your pretty much right, but there are exceptions. For a fact i know that almost all automatics installed on 3.2L V6 Honda powerplants had recalls on them for failures. But, Honda has revised many of them. I've also seen civic automatics fail at around 40K miles, again their are exceptions, some go well over 150K miles. Might depend on the level of abuse and level of maintenance that the tranny goes through.

Well, i get a few extra MPG out of the car with a CAI, party due to more low-end torque so i don't need to rev it above 2K RPM to get moving u know. CAI gives off a nice rumbling sound at higher RPM (vtec range). Other than that, there's no other advantages.
