Amazing version definitely. Not rare though - it's on Anthology 3. George was great, but let's be honest, Paul and John are waaaaaaaaaaaay superior as songwriters. Put their back catalogues against George's and I'm afraid he's not in the same league. At all.
@KaptKan - He wasn't faithful to her at all. In fact, he condoned Clapton's affair and slept with Eric's wife. He also slept with Ringo's wife. He took a lot of Coke between meditation. Wasn't the best bloke to have as a friend.
Thanks to whoever posted this....even in this early raw state the song is just beautiful...in fact I might even prefer it over the finished version...
POOR GEORGE! His documentary skipped theaters and went straight to cable TV. Worse, his wife Olivia turned out to be an inarticulate spokesperson for the man, sounding more like a muttering, stuttering secretary or spacey next door neighbor. Although she was respectful, one didn't get the feeling that she loved him. I understand. In the end, it was clear that George was not worthy of an entire documentary of his own. It would be like a 4 hour tour of my living room!
this shouldnt be up on youtube there is literally hundreds of other people who alreeady put this up on youtube.we have way too many.just wasted space on youtube.
@Trafalgar1961 I grew up on this stuff man :) 25 proud years of knowing these guys are some of the best composers to ever grace this planet. I have used their music as a case study to teach myself several instruments. So much so that I now have beatles voices in my head that tell me how to play, sometimes. Not in a creepy way, just in a "change to this chord" kinda way. Their music is timeless :)
Born in 1961, I was lucky enough to have a gaggle of older sisters who loved the Beatles and were buying the singles & the albums as they came out in England. There is a reel to reel recording of me and my twin brother singling the chorus of 'She Loves You' together, as the rest of the family chuckle and 'awww' at us.
As a teacher with musical knowledge, you're in a very good position to explain to kids who are interested, how revolutionary The Beatles were.
@Trafalgar1961 Thanks! :) You should it too, learning the beatles is the best way to learn I reckon. Learn them album by album in order, you'll be great by the end of it. John had an incredible mind for rhythm guitar, it taught me a lot about how to use a guitar. George is good for melody and building dexterity in the fingers. Paul has a good mind for chords and basslines. Ringo's drumming is simple but exciting. Just buy a song book and a cheap guitar :) You'll never regret it!
@KaptKan1 Wow, that's rude. First of all, they both were unfaithful to each other. I might be wrong, but so might you... let's not go there, when we really only know what we've heard.
@smallbimbo You're right; I thought I had removed that thoughtless comment already. I hope it's gone now. George was a great musician and had a lot of good things to say, but few of us are perfect in our personal lives, celebrities or not, so I withdraw the comment.
It's pretty awesome to have a song written about you; it's even better to have a good song written about you. However, to have two of the greatest songs of all time to be written about you...well...Pattie must have been quite the woman indeed.
@tasteofmadness Yeah, they're really good without having lennon or mccartney sticking their noses into it. If you've heard I me mine on the Let it Be film its really great.
@BadgerinSC Would love to know who you regard as #1, & #2. I have a gut feel who you place where, but would love to know. I bet we have opposing views. Let me know.
If you ever heard Dylan sing "Something," which he started singing in concert occasionally after GH's death, he sings it exactly like Harrison during his Dark Horse tour of 1974, during which Harrison was suffering laryngitis.
@BettinaBalser When George was asked if he wrote the song for Pattie, his quote was "Not really", justs someone took some video of us and John & Yoko, Paul & Linda and put the video together." I didn; know that until just a few days ago. Look for the quote someplace on You Tube.
This seemed to be inspired by Harrison's wife, Pattie, but he claimed he did not have anyone in mind when he wrote it. George was really into his studies of Krishna Consciousness when he wrote this song and its original intent was as a devotion to Lord Krishna. In fact, the lyric was "something in the way HE moves." George ended up changing it because he didn't want to be perceived as a "poof."
@60sduke The song is about Krishna, not Pattie. George says it in his 1980's autobiography "I Me Mine" . He explains almost all of his songs he wrote from his first Beatles' song "Don't Bother Me" to his album "George Harrison" (which was the last album he wrote before he published the book).
According to Boyd, Clapton played the song for her at a party, and later that same evening confessed to George that he was in love with his wife. The revelation caused no small upset between the three of them, but Pattie and George remained married for several more years, and Harrison and Clapton retained their close friendship with no apparent signs of damage. The title, Layla was inspired by the The Story of Layla / Layla and Majnun, by the Persian 12th century poet Nizami Ganjavi. (Wikipedia)
