  • 3:08 Ng2 wins the rook

  • @theAwsomBeaverrr Ng2 is an okay move but I was more concerned with attacking his king than winning the exchange.

  • @theAwsomBeaverrr you're right that would have been a good move.

  • You seem to play vs alot of noobs =D

  • It's kind of random. Most of the guests I play are actually quite decent but I don't always record the games.

  • Great video once again :) Game length doesn't really matter, as long as it doesn't end due to losing on time.

  • Super exciting finish! Well played.

  • Slower one is better Matt. Thanks for doing more live games recently btw. Keep them coming ;)

  • Hi Matt,

Great finish to this game! I'm a new subscriber and have found your videos and commentary excellent and very helpful. Thanks for the videos, keep posting!

  • amazing, how many yrs have you been playing?

  • I certainly prefer when you spend a little more time talking about the options open to you and your opponent and when you would/wouldn't make each move.

    Cheers.

  • 11.Nh3 (12. Kh1 , Nf2) or (12.gxh , Bcxh) I think black can get up a pawn this way

  • Yep, 11...Nh3+ is a good move. It's easy to miss tactics when you're not looking for them.

  • Hi Matt,

I love both format, but I think I prefer the 5min game. Short enough to be entertaining the whole time, and long enough to think a little. Keep up the good work. Thanks for all these videos.

  • I think I prefer the longer games, I'm trying to understand how certain moves cause positions to become weaker i.e pawn moves in the centre etc. This video was still very instructive however, as the pawn move he made to weaken his king caused his position to fall apart.

  • And also, thanks very much for your videos! Especially as you weren't in a good mood!

  • Holy crap lolololol

  • very nice finish especially under time pressure, but i prefer the longer games where you talk more

  • very good

i prefer 5 min blitz but it's a close call

  • 5 min blitz is better

  • ANNOTATE AFTER YOU FINISH OMGGGGG

  • The commentary DURING the game is actually what some of us need to improve. Yes, it sometimes causes time pressure, but it REALLY helps to know how he thinks during a game and WHY he makes the moves he does. I appreciate these videos.

  • Hahah! Jeez! That was intense at the end. xD. Good video!

I prefer slower with more commentary aswell :P

  • dude that was amazing ... u beat him under the time presure good job!

  • Woah, you're lucky that he had a time lag and had to make his last moves so quickly.

  • At 2:27, why not Bh3? Looks like a win for you.

  • Your idea being ..gxh3 Qg6+ mating on g2? I guess White would have to defend with Ne1 instead of taking the poisoned bishop. Then ..Qg6 can be met with Bf3. Not a bad sequence though.

  • Ah. Missed Bf3.

  • Nice game. What site can you play Blitz on? I haven't really tried online Blitz yet

  • This is on FICS.

  • Great game, down to the last seconds.. Your 5min Blitz is more informative but sometimes your opponent seems to slow.. Your 3 min blitz is just a faster tempo.. I do enjoy the 5min Blitz..

  • Thanks for vid. Well played. I prefer slower with more commentary.

  • I don't mind either 3 or five minutes...both are educational in that I get an insight into the way you are thinking and constructing moves etc.

    Hope you cheered up afterwards!

  • Couldn't you do 21... Nxf2? you would get 2 rooks for 2 pieces, or at least a great advantage

  • Even if White didn't have Qxf3, I only get 1 rook and pawn for the two pieces. My two pieces are actively placed whereas his rooks are.. well.. doubled on his own 2nd rank.

  • although i would prefer a longer game with more annotation, i can tell that you prefer the quick games... and that one was very exciting towards the end!

  • Actually I do not prefer faster games

  • 3:08, after Rd8, why not Nb7 ? wouldn't take this his rook?

i like 5 min blitz more

  • 15.Re1 Ng2 16.Rf1 Ne3 looks extremely plausible there.

  • that's what I meant, but i turned round the table, lol.

  • 5 min blitz ftw

  • I like slower games more where you talk more. I learn more from those.

  • Me too. Though this 1 was really an exciting game!

  • awesome!!

  • I think after you play the knight back to e7, you should have tried to make it a french type game by trying to play f5 to undermine the white centre.

  • I have played that move in this position before as well.

  • You should post some 5 minute blitz those two minutes makes for a decent game and still time to analyze the game afterwards.

  • love the fast ones i jus like watching you play man keep em coming i have always wanted to study chess but never had time too but watching you makes me want to superr bad

  • Thank you, I am learning a lot from your videos

  • Nice finish. For awhile it looked like you were not going to have enough time. As for what type of blitz i'd liked to see more of I perfer to watch you play five minute blitz..

  • Haha, Matt, you lose on time on a 5 min, what were you thinking on a 3 min game? lol. j/k that was a good game, those kinds of blunders happen when you dont have time to think, i rather play 5 mins. And still make blunders like that.

BTW. was that Nimzowitch? I will study that as well, since im tired of scandinavian, and i want to avoid scotch without going to sicilian or french.

  • 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 e5 3.Nf3 fails to avoid the Scotch.

You could however play 1.e4 Nc6 2.d4 d5. This has an okay reputation but I don't remember any theory so I chose ...e5.

    Btw if 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 I also play 2...e5.
