  • I miss these aircraft, My squadron in the Air Force was the 552 AEW&C Wing. I went frm McClellan to Iceland for a TDY on one and back 3 months later on another. I was in Aircrew life Support. USAF 69-85

  • They need to bring some of these back into service. I would gladly pay for a ticket from California Long Beach Airport to Las Vegas round trip!

  • It could be argued that a lot of these older movies have music because many cheaper 8mm cameras back then didn't have mics so you have to fill the space with something and personally i think it was a great and appropriate choice. I thank the author for sharing this with us of a younger generation.

  • MAN...THE BABY IS DANCING !!!

  • GI BLUES!! GLEN MILLER! :)

  • What a beautiful girl!

  • May I relate a Constellation story from my youth? An unpleasant but revalent story to the history of the ships. It was a Saturday morning in Decemer 1965.I was a lad of 9 and playing with my neighborhood friends. We heard the deafening engine noise first. It then appeared, very close to us in the air, wobbling and moving slow for all the noise. The ground shook.Silver and blue.It said eastern Airlines and some tail parts were not there. We went into shock. It went down about 2000 feet away. Continued

  • @porcupineinteruptus The impact was out of our sight on a farm beyond the woods. The grinding sounds and smoke went on forever. Most survived, but Captain White gave his life trying to save some elderly. He MUST have been able to see the runway at Danbury airport,it was only a couple of miles from the field he chose.I dont know WHY he didnt go there. The TWA 707 had destroyed his tail section, maybe that was it,there was only the 6oclock news to report to us.I went there alot later,i have some wire.

  • Ok with sound off-loud raucous music in the wrong place

  • I tend to agree with those who love the engine noise, HOWEVER: "St. Louis Blues" is a GREAT tune to go along with a classic bird. It was acrtually a surprise treat to hear this.

  • @SteveB801

    Thank you!

  • I love connie music as much as the next guy, but I love Glenn Miller just as much.

  • Connie's music is like no other! Enuff said!

  • The good ole days!.....

  • To all that hate the music: this is an old video clip that had a lot of wind noise in it and you could barly hear the engines, I like engine noise as well if not more than most but it is poor quality at best here. If you like I can just delete the clip and you wont have to listen to any of it.

  • @mctim64 love the music!!! do want you wnat, people are just babies. if you put in the real audio people would just complain about the wind noise. make two videos maybe? haha

  • @mctim64 Not trying to be a jerk, but if you had stated that in the original description, I bet nobody would have complained.

  • @brettbouler

I don't know, people like to complain no matter what you do. ;-) LOL

  • @mctim64 they still would have complained. could have been perfect. on board mics, and such and youd NEVER hear the eng of it. a nice production i will admit

  • @mctim64 VERY TRUE...lol thanks for posting!

  • hate the music-why no plane sounds?

  • Lovely music... but I'd rather hear the aircraft/engine noise. Any chance you could re-edit and leave just the original sound-track? It's a great video and I hope that you'll forgive me expressing my personal opinion.

  • I flew on one of these, back in the day.

  • That's Vern Raburn, former owner of The Constellation Group flying the plane.

  • What a wonderful looking airplane.......WOW. Music was soso....rather hear them round engines

  • Radial engines are music to me.

  • very nice video, and the music is just right !!!!

  • Why the music??

  • super de super

  • The Connie and the Super Connie!

Such beautiful birds! This is a great video and accompanied by the Glenn Miller Band no less! Outstanding!!

  • The nose landing gear seems a little discomforting to see!

  • I didn't know there were still any MATS around let alone SuperConnie in that good of shape! Keep em flying!

  • This was a privately owned plane out of Marana, Arizona. Sadly, the airframe ran out of hours and the plane is now a gate guard at an airport in South Korea

  • Great big band sound! Who is that?

  • The music was great but out of place. The only music should have been made by those 4 massive radials. How can you love props and blank out the sound of the engines with a band?

  • @19elgato46 I agree completely ! I grew up on Connies, My Dad worked as a manager in sales for TWA for 35yrs and I was born with an annual pass. I have loged over 200K hours in Connies and now am going crazy for my fix!!!!!!!!!! I loved the 1950's. Last ride was 1967 out of PHL.

  • Normally, I hate the music of youtube video's. But this video with this music is great. Reminded me of hanging out with my dads WWII Lockheed friends back in the early 70's. My dad worked on these back in the 40's/50's at Lockheed in Burbank. Use to talk trash about all his Douglas friends in Long Beach.

  • I want th hear the engines and not the music!

  • The DC-3 was just a dolled up utilitarian cargo plane. The Constellation was made to be appealing to the senses. I never appreciated the impact the Constellation had on aviation specifically and possibly the imagination of returned soldiers and the general population of the era. When one puts it all in to perspective they start to realize the significance of style the Constellation inspired.

  • I saw The Aviator and have to wonder how much influence did Howard Hughes really have on the Connie, compared with how it was portrayed in the movie. That plane is really something, it has a unique style and class and it can stand on its own without any fan fare. But you definitely captured an essence there with this video and the music. It says alot about the era and what they may have been thinking when passengers first laid their eyes on that beautiful bird waiting for them on the tarmac.

  • Howard Hughes commissioned, but did not design, the Constellation. That job fell to Kelly Johnson, who also designed the SR-71A Blackbird, the F-104, the P-38, etc. At times Hughes admitted he didn't design the plane, but he wasn't above accepting credit for it, either.

  • So what? You can say the very same thing about David Sarnoff of RCA as well. The difference is that Howard Hughes, like David Sarnoff, were visionaries. Something you don't see anymore in this world, homey. It's one thing to have an idea, but it's a totally different thing to take an idea, or ideas in Sarnoff's case, and get it literally off the ground for the public.

  • The "Connie" exuded style and class.

  • cool baby cool

  • SSSEEEEEXXXYYYYY

  • we used load 41 dairy cattle on these old planes and ship them to costa rica out of miame in the early 80's those were the days

  • Now there's a sight I haven't seen since '63 when TCA stopped flying these grand old birds.

(guess I just dated myself again)

  • Like the Cessna

  • Thank you!

  • Sure brings back memories , flew on those from Charleston AFB, many a year ago , LOL ( USAF Retired ) Nice Shots There ,

  • Great Stuff - Thank You !

  • Hi super,

and super Musik, Ilove Glenn Miller,

Gina from Band Sax & Moryson

  • This video reminds me of my dad....he is in his early 70's....rode on one in the service when he was in the marines....coming back from the pacific on a TWA...Lost two engines..and he said he was scared to crap, and has since never flown....but, loves his military airplanes..

  • The music suits very well : THAT'S ELEGANCE ! Thanks mctim64 !

  • they dont have any models for FSX :'(

  • the best on youtube. handsdown!

  • one graceful plane. music fit the video. Saw one with flying tigers land at newark airport when I was a kid with one engine feathered and smoking. Southbound traffic on NJTP came to a stop watching final approach and landing.

  • I get goose pimples everytime I hear Glenn Miller music and especially this piece,

It was totally perfect to put this piece in with the connie to make it more special,

The polished metal on the connie shimmering and the props turning,

    What a site to behold!

  • Im with kathysue59 on that,

The connie is oe sweet airplane,

And the 749 is the best looking I think with its porthole window's,

But,, The airplane, together with the St louis Blues March was really something to listen to and hear together,

The polished metal on the airplane, and the overcast weather was really something as both of them harmonized together,

And,, The Glenn Miller music really set it off,

    Really nice video,

And really nice music to make it even more special!

  • Me, too. Grew up next to Air Barrier Squadrons and was in VQ-1: Connie heaven!! I'ld much rather hear the music of the 18 cylinders and the old brakes...used to pull the floor up and watch her wires during flight - the ONLY way to fly! Music is nice, but you can't trim unless you hear her.

  • I've gotta agree with the last guy, great video, but please, lose the music - I'd rather listen to the Connie!

  • I think the music as great as it was, took away from the beautiful sound the "Connie" was producing all the along.

Please try it next time with just the "Connie" engines singing.

    Larry

  • St. Louis Blues March, Glenn Miller

  • the music??

  • truly great aircraft, video and music!
