This "race" is B.S., the Camaro hardly revs up short shifting. The 1997 SS stock is rated at 305hp and with "full bolt-ons" would be over 300rwhp.
I yanked stock and exhaust 350Zs with my full bolt-on 1994 Z28 A4, that Camaro was either an AWFUL driver or sand-bagging it. The Camaro easily makes 330+ torque to the 350Zs measly 260ish torque, the race is B.S.
The camaro needs a driver mod... my mom has a 03 350z and my LT1 smokes it all day long. Her 350Z did 14.4 in the 1/4 at the local track that was the best run out of 3 trys. My LT1 does the 1/4 in 14.0 flat I have even broke 13.9... The new 370Z however is a different story.

Ok, this is to end all confusion people. A GOOD running LT1 with 6spd should outrun a 350z. Don't get me wrong, I've raced a couple with my 97 T/A and it is a VERY close race to about 80-90mph. After that, LT1 pulls away. They both are running pretty close hp numbers, but the LT1 has more torque and the Z is about 400lbs lighter. Point is though, with a shot clutch(being the primary link between engine and transmission) no matter how much horsepower you have, YOU AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE.

330 hp, and only 109 Camaro SS's had them. Needless to say, they're RARE. You've got to consider that the 350Z puts out a lot of power and doesn't weigh a whole lot. If anything, stock for stock they should be dead even (unless he really does have an LT4 in there).

Damn thing crapped four transmissions over a period of about ten years, the door bushings needed replacing, and the power windows worked sparingly. Yet it had a 360 V8 that put out around 300 hp! My mother originally bought it then sold it to my grandmother, who sold it out from under me when I was fourteen or so in '05.

97' ss is an LT1, stock it runs 13.8-14.0 just like a z with a good driver of course. with FULL bolt-ons, AND gears, it should have beat the z by quite a bit.
@jayguy173 In 1992 they didn't have the 3.8 V6's in the Camaro, I think they were using the 160HP 3.4, or the 140HP 2.7. 1996 was the first year they introduced the 3.8, it did 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 15-16 seconds. They were decent...,but no way the 2.7, 3.4, or even the 3.8 could keep up with the 350Z, no way.

Actually the '07 and '08 Z's are capable or low-mid 13's with great driving. They have run a best of 13.1 at 107 on the Z forums bone stock. The high 13's are the old ones, 2003 and 2004, like the one in this vid.
Also, you can get a Z for $28,000 brand new, that's base price, an it's a new car, so you can't compare it to a 7 year-old camaro with no warranty. Obviously an old car is going to be a better bang for your buck.

You aren't getting the same straightline speed, the camaro tops out at 165mph and the 350z 150mph so even if there close in the 1/4 mile the camaro will blow by the 350z soon after. And the 350z does not have much better handling then the camaro. the torque numbers for the camaro are far to high for the 350z to pull away from it around the corners. 350vs. 268. And they weigh about the same which would make it hard for the z to win around the corners. And the looks of the t/a are fuckin sexy.
Man, you need to do some research. EVERY 350Z is limited to 159mph. Unrestricted they will hit close to 170, thanks to their top end and aerodynamics. There are vids on here of them topped out at 159.
Yes, the Z does have better handling, and a camaro ss isn't going to hang with it on a track, unless it has a lot of open straights. The Z can keep much higher speeds through the turns, and keep up on the straights. Torque has nothing to do with handling.

No, torque has nothing to do with handling, or going around a curve while keeping as much speed as possible. That's the suspension's job. Powering out of a corner, yes, torque helps, but then again, torque isn't the deciding factor.
Car weight, powerband, and gearing all play an important role. An S2000 has very little torque, but is very quick around a track because it stays in the powerband the whole time and is light.

Thats what i was talking about when the 350z is in front of the camaro ss and they are both coming out of the corner the camaro's gonna pass the 350z because of the high tq numbers and the broad powerband of the ls1. The 350z has much less tq than the camaro and they both weigh about the same so who's gonna be quicker coming out of the turn? CAMAROS CAN HANDLE TO!! don't think they aren't good in the twisties. Bottom line, an HR 350Z has only 268lb-ft, yet it's able to keep up with a camaro with 350lb-ft. And if it doesn't keep up, it's only a tenth or two behind. You can analyze that any way you want, but it is what it is. Torque isn't the deciding factor.
And no, they aren't faster than a Z in the corners. The Z has a better skidpad rating, more balance and much faster reflexes. It was made for handling. The camaro, while a nice car, just isn't meant for a handling track.

A solid axle car CAN handle well...on a smooth surface. Throw in some bumps, especially in a corner, and the rear is going to dance around, and you aren't going to have much confidence in pushing it hard. Trust me, I know. My gf's 2006 V6 Mustang handles nice...in smooth turns on smooth roads. It has an upgraded suspension. The second you hit bumps, and it's all over the place. It's scary pushing the thing hard. A camaro is no different. That's the limitation of a solid axle.
Well if your scared of pushing a v6 stang hard your really gonna be frightened pushin a lt1 or ls1 trans am hard. I sure am it's super scary once that tail comes loose around a corner at 60 mph on a backroad at night.
And solid axle cars can handle incredible. Think about the c6 zo6 and the zr1. Both solid axles cars with incredible handling.
Err, the corvettes aren't solid axle. They have IRS, and had it since a LONG time ago. That's why the handle so nice. The only solid axle car left is the mustang. The new camaro and challenger both have irs, and for a reason. Chevy and Dodge wouldn't bother spending all that money on developing the irs if there was no benefit.

330 hp, and only 109 Camaro SS's had them. Needless to say, they're RARE. You've got to consider that the 350Z puts out a lot of power and doesn't weigh a whole lot. If anything, stock for stock they should be dead even (unless he really does have an LT4 in there).

yeah if atleast they tied i would of given props to him but he like literaly got smoked, i have a slow automatic camaro and i swear on anything ive smoeked g35's and 350z's both stick shift and auto and by alot. and then i see this guy with a 6speed and gears and full bolt ons with a tune and see him get smoked by so much not even as he was shifting to 3rd was he catching up if anything the gap was getting bigger as you can see where im coming from thats why i feel like hes making maros look bad

No worries about the races you've been in with yours. My mother (not me) had a '94 Saturn SC2 with a 5-speed, and it beat two 5.0 Mustangs. First one was bone stock, the second one was with a clutch mod. Nobody believes it, but... You know.

I never got the chance to drive my first car. I had a 1978 Dodge magnum XE that was a total piece of shit. It was such a crap design! Damn thing crapped four transmissions over a period of about ten years, the door bushings needed replacing, and the power windows worked sparingly. Yet it had a 360 V8 that put out around 300 hp! My mother originally bought it then sold it to my grandmother, who sold it out from under me when I was fourteen or so in '05.

97' ss is an LT1, stock it runs 13.8-14.0 just like a z with a good driver of course. with FULL bolt-ons, AND gears, it should have beat the z by quite a bit.

@jayguy173 In 1992 they didn't have the 3.8 V6's in the Camaro, I think they were using the 160HP 3.4, or the 140HP 2.7. 1996 was the first year they introduced the 3.8, it did 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 15-16 seconds. They were decent...,but no way the 2.7, 3.4, or even the 3.8 could keep up with the 350Z, no way.

I'm pretty sure a ls1 camaro or trans am will pull on a 07 or o8 350z. There 1/4 mile times are kinda close but if you take a look at the trap speeds the camaro and trans am come out on top and even if the 350z beat it in the 1/4 mile i'm sure that the camaro or t/a would pass it up pretty quickly after about 120 mph.

No i'm actually wrong. You said a z is a high 13's car stock. The camaro and trans am are LOW 13 second cars. If thats the case the f-body rapes the shit out of a 350z. I thought 350z's were low to mid 13 second cars. And you have to pay close to 40,000 for one of them which makes it even worse because you can buy a ls1 powered f-body for less than 20,000 in excellent condition. Actually the '07 and '08 Z's are capable or low-mid 13's with great driving. They have run a best of 13.1 at 107 on the Z forums bone stock. The high 13's are the old ones, 2003 and 2004, like the one in this vid.
Also, you can get a Z for $28,000 brand new, that's base price, an it's a new car, so you can't compare it to a 7 year-old camaro with no warranty. Obviously an old car is going to be a better bang for your buck.

You aren't getting the same straightline speed, the camaro tops out at 165mph and the 350z 150mph so even if there close in the 1/4 mile the camaro will blow by the 350z soon after. And the 350z does not have much better handling then the camaro. the torque numbers for the camaro are far to high for the 350z to pull away from it around the corners. 350vs. 268. And they weigh about the same which would make it hard for the z to win around the corners. And the looks of the t/a are fuckin sexy.

Man, you need to do some research. EVERY 350Z is limited to 159mph. Unrestricted they will hit close to 170, thanks to their top end and aerodynamics. There are vids on here of them topped out at 159.
Yes, the Z does have better handling, and a camaro ss isn't going to hang with it on a track, unless it has a lot of open straights. The Z can keep much higher speeds through the turns, and keep up on the straights. Torque has nothing to do with handling.

No, torque has nothing to do with handling, or going around a curve while keeping as much speed as possible. That's the suspension's job. Powering out of a corner, yes, torque helps, but then again, torque isn't the deciding factor.
Car weight, powerband, and gearing all play an important role. An S2000 has very little torque, but is very quick around a track because it stays in the powerband the whole time and is light.

Bottom line, an HR 350Z has only 268lb-ft, yet it's able to keep up with a camaro with 350lb-ft. And if it doesn't keep up, it's only a tenth or two behind. You can analyze that any way you want, but it is what it is. Torque isn't the deciding factor.
And no, they aren't faster than a Z in the corners. The Z has a better skidpad rating, more balance and much faster reflexes. It was made for handling. The camaro, while a nice car, just isn't meant for a handling track.

A solid axle car CAN handle well...on a smooth surface. Throw in some bumps, especially in a corner, and the rear is going to dance around, and you aren't going to have much confidence in pushing it hard. Trust me, I know. My gf's 2006 V6 Mustang handles nice...in smooth turns on smooth roads. It has an upgraded suspension. The second you hit bumps, and it's all over the place. It's scary pushing the thing hard. A camaro is no different. That's the limitation of a solid axle.

And solid axle cars can handle incredible. Think about the c6 zo6 and the zr1. Both solid axles cars with incredible handling.

Err, the corvettes aren't solid axle. They have IRS, and had it since a LONG time ago. That's why the handle so nice. The only solid axle car left is the mustang. The new camaro and challenger both have irs, and for a reason. Chevy and Dodge wouldn't bother spending all that money on developing the irs if there was no benefit.
And it doesn't matter if her mustang is a V6 or not, I'm talking about the suspension composure over rough road. THAT'S scary.

Just think about this. The new 2010 camaro SS with 400hp and irs pulled an 8:20 on the n-ring. The old slower 2003 350Z did it in 8:32, while having about 125hp less and much less torque.
What do you think an old 1997 camaro is going to do with less power and a solid axle that doesn't work as well around bumpy corners?

Well if you put about $3000 in suspension mods into a 97 LT1 camaro that only costs about $5000-$9000 then you'll have one fine handling machine. It will beat 350z's around the corners. And with a cai, and full exhaust it will beat a 350Z on the straights to.
And you gotta remember your talkin about 16 year old technology for the LT1 camaro and t/a's and 11 year old technology for the LS1 camaro and t/a's... you gotta admit it took a while for it's competitors to catch up.

Ok to clear any confusion, the Camaro, if it truly has so many mods, WOULD have raped the Z if it did. Now a bad clutch I can understand, as it impeded your ability to launch. The Z on the other hand probably had a fresh clutch, and with a Unichip, Intake, TB, Headers, Test Pipes, CBE and Gears then he probably could wax on anyone.

lol that camaro would walk that 350z if it would have launched at the same time. I raced a 350z when i was stalk and got it by bout 4 cars. Raced it last night with all my shit i got now and go him by bout 6 lol
