I don't understand why we can't think this is lame. If its done as a hobby then cool but if anyone is thinking about making money then shouldn't everyones opinion matter. Lots of people have gone broke by only listening to yes people.
@colemanhammer Nice comeback. How about an update 3 years on. Are you able to have a conversation about it or are you only able to insult people. I'm genuinely interested in your motivation behind this.
@ConflictedMike Why did I do it? To see if I could. Why did I document it? I suppose partly to prove that I did it (ego) but mostly so that others might be able to take something from what I did and build upon it (as I did from those who came before me). If you want to have a conversation about it, all you have to do is start one.
Hey Inventive types, don't worry about the bullshit comments from the herd. Just remember the old "sticks and stones" saying and you'll be right.
People who get on here and rag others are always people who couldn't invent something in a million years or fight their way out of a wet paper bag. They just get comfort in their low self esteem insecure lives by attempting to belittle others. You can actually have a good laugh as the most vehement are always the smallest guys in every respect.
Wow, that thing is so awesome :] i wish i had free time (and knowledge moreso) to make something like that..i bet you must've put quite some time in on that thing. Can't wait to see the day those things flood the market haha..i'm so getting one :) awesome video, great job on the work and time it must've taken, bet your proud.
all these 15 yr old punk skateboarders are givin u a rough time about it.lol I think its cool. Will get u rich a hell if u can get it more stable and to go faster.
very nice indeed this is the kind of stuff that makes you wonder how people are gona get around in 5 years. get a good power source such as lithineum and have it go maybe a steady 10 to 15 mph and youd be good.
no realy a skateboard ... its kinda shit ? it dosn't even have a board so you cant realy call it one-wheeled skateboard! if i was you i would get a life !
My guess is he has an accelerometer, a microcontroller and a big motor.
Microcontroller sends power to the engine that drives the wheel, depending on the data received from the accelorometer which detects the level of the board!
Thats awesome. And if i was that kids mum i'd say "okay sweetie, well if you aren't clever enough to put shoes on you deserve your burned feet" :o) Wicked toy though dude!
don't tell him to grow up man... that's pretty freakin cool. i bet he spent a lot of time engineering this thing. not many people (including you i'm guessing) have the brains to do this sort of thing.
I don't get comments like this. at least once a month, someone has the need to spend the effort to submit a "lame" or "dumb" or some other monosyllabic critique. Is this what we've come to as a society? A bunch of armchair quaterbacks who feel their voice is important enough to be heard but are then too lazy or incapable of offering up more than a single word?
@colemanhammer atta boy. As an educated teenager ( im 16) i can only imagine how much it must suck to have people rip on you, when they could do nothing close to you. this is an engineering marvel, and even though it might not be the most practical thing to get around on in my opinion, it's a cool thing ! :)
Maybe if you put a dynamo against the rimside and wire it properly, you could charge the batteries while you're rolling along at the same time? Maybe it could make your batteries last longer? Gotta have a strong magnet to power that dynamo coil though, or the output wont amount to much. And gotta have lotsa coils too. I wonder why nobody ever thought of putting dynamos in hybrid cars?
Nice mechanical work! You may want to put a fender on it so your foot doesn't tractor feed between the wheel and frame. From experience with my electric unicycle, I can tell you that your stability issues would greatly improve if you went to a higher wattage motor (min 500W, 750W better). Higer voltages combat back-EMF that reduces torque at higher speeds. Consider 36V, the OSMC will do it. I hope to have my 48V 750W leviskate running soon with video to follow. Congrats!
Thanks for the info. Since this video I went back and found a pid tuning tutorial on the web and went through their process. Ten minutes of that, along with some code modification has made a HUGE improvement. I'm getting some oscillation (overshoot) that's really only noticable at a standstill. I guess I'll have to do some more tuning.
What about battery life at the higher power? My finished weight at this point will be somewhere around 36 pounds. More batteries = more weight...
Because the motor is basically a switching power supply, you will actually see longer run times per charge with higher voltage under the same load conditions (the pwm will run at a lower rate, providing more headroom)
Yes, It weighs more, it depends on your design goals. My goal is for a board that can go up steep driveways (mechanical clearance required!) Also ride on grass and yank my 240lb body around while balancing and go 10+ miles/hour for an hour.
I don't understand why we can't think this is lame. If its done as a hobby then cool but if anyone is thinking about making money then shouldn't everyones opinion matter. Lots of people have gone broke by only listening to yes people.
