It is an emitter constantly shooting out very thin objects making it look like he is being blown by wind. You can probably see how erratic his movements are, and at some points you can even see the object itself.
Well, I won't tell you HOW to do it, but let me tell you what you need to construct it:
1x captured slim stick of "black rubber material"
1x emitter, emitting the capped object with high speed at 0.1s
Wonder if you find out how to do it :) A friend of mine figured it out 3 weeks after the relase of my level, so reconstructing it is definitely possible, if you're interested enough.
Jup, this is another possibility. paintballs are quite inaccurate though, plus they don't stack up.
black rubber plates are completely invisible. As long as no sackboy gets in the way, they fly upwards and disappear afterwards. As soon as a sackboy gets on top, they get pushed down, touching the lower plates. This creates a smooth decrease in falling speed, a dead point and a sudden catapult effect, always straight upwards.
It would be quite difficult to achieve this using paintballs.
Jup, it's out already. Chapter 1 of the series is also published. Just search for "@Treas" and you should get an exact list of all my published levels.
Yeah, kinda :) There are other, real "Mirror's Edge"-levels out there which do exactly copy the red-white, functional style of the game. I just wanted to take up the basic idea - free running - and take it a step further, adding multiple interesting paths and more different districts, like the dirty, industrial "stomp inc." buildings, the clean and futuristic "LABZ" and so on. Check out the vid of Chapter 1 of my series, "Running Ch.1 - Canexis! Rush".
I liked the way you made everything have an effect on gameplay, and there isn't "ONE RIGHT WAY". No, there are billions of ways to navigate in this game level.
I'm actually working on some levels (Mainly boss battles that have you spam explosives)... Can you help me come up with ideas?
Boss battles, let's see... well, I think the most important thing is to balance them well; try to avoid any kind of safe spots (where no enemy attack could ever hit you) to keep the players moving, but don't make it too hard. Good bosses usually feature multiple manifestations; either your boss could be a little creature, growing in size everytime you hit its weakpoint (emitters and dissolvable work well), or it could be a giant monster which loses parts after it's being hit.
Yeah, I will think about an arctic one. Got some nice ideas already. It wouldn't fit in my storyline, but I may find a way to involve some arctic elements.
Wow that was the best level ever!!!!! It took my friend and i 4EVER to find all the keys... but we finally did and the prizes were great! The hole in the wall to get the 1st key was brilliant i would have never of thought of it. We hearted the level and the author and gave the level 5 stars. Can't wait to play more of your levels!!!!
Hey, thanks for your feedback :) For me, it's great seeing that some people do actually care about the hidden keys :)
Well, another good level I made... try "Running Ch.1: Canexis! Rush", the level you unlock at the end of Downtown Run. Got one known minor bug, but I'll fix it tonight.
Just browse through the comments and you will find out :)
Dark matter and rubber have got special, round textures which will eventually completely disappear if shrinked to a certain size. Works well with the square shape.
Sorry, that's a secret I want to keep for now :) One promise though: You will get the hot air vent object by completing each of my "Running:"-levels within a certain time. Those special time trials will be added soon (as soon as all levels are complete) and will reward the player with some cool, technically advanced objects and some other useful stuff.
Ah, your technical demos never cease to amaze me, and I must say you push the limits of the engine continuously. It's impressive to say the least. I haven't had a chance to sit down for a while, but I was online when you completed this level and I can't wait to try it. It's everything the Mirror's Edge level should have been. I also like it designwise. You managed to get a very grungy, industrial feel to it. Maybe my aesthetic nagging rubbed off on you after all? You need to show me how, f'real.
Wow, thanks for this very positive comment on my level. Yeah, my plan was adding some rather dirty, scruffy parts of town as well as some very clean and modern buildings. I will update the level soon; I came up with the idea of changing the way how to walk over ropes; I will add a mechanism that lets one fall down if walking over it too fast.
The next part, "Running: Rooftop Challenge" is about 20-30% done and features a well-planned multi-path system.
As for the invisible blocks, I can answer you that question - well, or at least provide you one basic solution. Two materials - dark matter and rubber - have got very smooth, round textures. They start acting strange after a certain minimal size is reached, and disappear completely if shrinked to the absolute minimum - well, at least graphically. They still exist as physical objects, even though they can no more be picked up by directly selecting them.
great use of the invisable darkmatter glitch
