WHAT?? 159 bucks?? damn, i just purchased the chip from the paralax store for 9 bucks and soldered me a basic stamps board. than grabbed two small electro motors and some wheels from an old toy and got my own paralax robot spending way less money. those paralax dudes really make money with their boe-bots...
I just would like to ask i am about to start building my own robot.
I am doing electronics engineering, and I have done programming on Java, C++, and little bit Matlab.
I was thinking if I should get a kit or build my own one from scratch, my robot is a gift for a very important person to me so I want it to look good as well.
Should I go for this kit or do you recommend any other kind?
@khaledmalsalman Considering you already know those languages, learning how to program in Basic Stamp language which is what this kit uses, should be fairly easy. However, you may want to look into the Arduino hardware which I believe allows you to use C++ to code programs. This would prevent you from having to learn a new language. I'm not 100% sure what language it uses, but most prefer it over Parallax because it's open-source and you're more likely to be able to do more with it.
@khaledmalsalman Lego will not teach you much about electronics. I own two of the NXT bricks and here is a list of pros and cons. Pros Supported by multiple programming languages has a screen has speakers comes with some complex sensors AKA ultrasonic, light sensor, rotation sensors, ect Cons only 3 motor ports only 4 sensor ports not much to do with electronics: mainly building what is classified as hacking for the NXT is building when you use something more basic like a boe bot.
I love the vid. We are using boe bots in my engineering class. One of the greatest things about the boe bot is that it is a basic beginner robot but with expansion packs you can get very advanced and using different commands in the programming the capabilities of this robot are phenomenal. Keep up the great work.
Awesome video! I've never really thought about robotics since its so expensive but i just might have to try this out! I'll have to do some more research on it. Thumbs up!
lol I got one of those I have the serial one I got it at radio shack, I just got the usb to seril cable this is a great kit to start and it teaches every thing. its a fun kit and it is so virsatile and can be used on a lot of projects. cool I have to see what else you have good vid

What software did you use for making the intro video?

How smart do you have to be and what sort of experience/education do you need to assemble and program one of these?

@TheProgrammer93 I believe it is for ages 10 and up...so it is not hard to understand if you read the book that comes with it.

@RobertSmith3 Cheers, I think I'll get one of these for christmas! :)

Can you tell me about some easy and simple robot to be made with a kit which is for 10+ or 12+ year olds.

@roofy2k Thank you very much for your help

@roofy2k I agree
the lego is more like a toy
Boe Bot more advanced in matter of engineering :)

@RobertSmith3
what about lego? i have been reading some stuff online but I do not know if its an advanced kit or not.
do you recommend I should build the robot from scratch or is it better if i use a kit esp that I have never done any work on robot before.
Thank you
