  • This piece is... Argh, what was it again...

    I can't believe I forgot, I've heard it a million of times.

Sorry to ask you this, but what is the name of the piece?

    I know it but the name just doesn't want to reveal itself ;_;

  • @VirtuosoInTheMaking -- its karl bohm's sarabande. neat piece...

  • @eboyinc Thanks! I don't know. It just slipped from my mind :)

There are so many pieces I want to learn, I keep jumping from one piece to another. Some consistency on my part would be nice but this piece is definitely on my list to learn!

ps: I just love it how one piece can sound so different with another kind of a violin and the same player!

  • @VirtuosoInTheMaking -- i think thats what makes this project so interesting for us. we started doing these sound samples as a favor to the family of a professional violinist who passed away a few years ago (leaving behind this amazing collection)...and we didn't really think too mcuh about it then. but we've learned alot about the nature of violins since them.

  • Fiddle sounds great. Is it for sale?

  • @mickeymuse2 -- no, its not for sale.

  • excellent tone!

  • @jmp100watt == thanks so much...glad you liked it. some of these violins are amazing...as they were collected over a 60-80 year period by a professional violinist who traveled the world performing and was interested in buying violins from wherever they went.

  • GREAT!

  • @yaslokoman -- thank you!!!

  • thanks i would be greateful if i saw more detail of your violin:)

  • hi...we only get a few minutes with each instrument, but we'll keep that in mind. when an instrument is very unusual, we do try to show it :D

  • That violin is incredibly beautiful =]

  • thanks...its one of many beautiful instruments in this collection. we've sampled about 100 of them so far, with many more to go :D

  • Aaah that looks like a violin that i've seen at my local shop. With the insets... so beautiful. It's 12,000 dollars unfortunately.

And that is one of my favorite pieces of music to play :)

So how did you become involved with these violins?

  • these violins are part of the estate of a professional violinist who collected these instruments over their lifetime. my family is friends of their family and my brother and i were asked to create short sound samples of each violin in the collection. what we started as a favor has become something much bigger...we've learned alot about violins by doing this :D

  • i love ur violin.!

  • thanks...its a terrific violin, but it's not mine. its part of a large collection from the estate of a former professional violinist. my brother and i were asked to document the collection by making these sound samples...i wish i could keep them all...there are so many great violins in the collection :D

  • that must be so difficult lol to part with those babies =]

  • The vibrato is amazing. I hope that when I learn to do it mine will sound like this one!

  • I think your violin sounds beautiful!

  • thanks...its a really nice instrument...one of many from this collection that my brother and i are lucky enough to get to play for these videos. i just checked out your latest vid...nice job!!!

  • I'm hoping to be able to get a nicer violin than the one I have right now soon. The one I have is a 100 buck Chinese one. It's a little harsh on the ears.

  • hi...i've been playing since i was in the 4th grade...6 years now :D

  • Thank you for letting us see what you are doing with the bow and fingers. I find it aggravating that this is hard to find. You do it well.

  • hey thanks...glad you liked the video :D

  • Hey thats awesome that you give sound samples of all sorts of violins,

I've never heard so many sound samples of so many different kinds until now!

    5 stars

  • its still amazing to my brother and i that we're getting to play through this collection of violins. it just seemed like something to do a couple of years ago, but it's become a whole lot more since then. we're glad to hear from youtubers who "get it"...thanks :D

  • wow, you're awsome!!!

  • how many violins do you have?

  • there are a couple of hundred in this collection at least. i don't think anyone's actually counted...they're not mine, my brother and I just have the privilege of playing the sound samples :D

  • hey thanks so much for listening. i agree with you--this violin is a powerhouse :D

  • hi, thanks so much. this is one beautiful violin :D

  • you play this song on most or all of your sound samples, what is it called?

  • hi. it's karl bohm's sarabande. i rotate through about 10 or 15 pieces. i add a new piece every so often if i find something i like. the sarabande always calls to me. i like it :D

  • can anyone explain to me the difference between a gypsy violin and an ordinary one? I've just started learning ordinary violin and had never heard of a gypsy one, even though i love the music!

  • hi...gypsy music refers to the folk music of eastern europe-hungary-romania-czechoslovakia -influenced by the rom~the gypsy people who may have originated in india adding to their music by absorbing tunes from persia, parts of the middle east & spain like arabian/moorish music and flamenco. bela bartok studied gypsy music. liszt, strauss, brahms borrowed it. Any fancy ornamented violin & violins made for such music...& sometimes eastern european instruments are referred to as gypsy violins :D

  • Thanks! Well explained

  • I can't find the sheet music to this Sarabande. =( It's beautiful!

  • is this violin for sale? don't you guys sell on ebay sometimes? thanks!

  • i'm not sure, but i'll check on it for you.

    exact name of this piece?

  • it's "sarabande" by karl bohm. glad you liked the vid :D

  • it'll come back i bet...thanks for your comment :D

  • man romanian gispsy music is the hardest music THIS IS EASY but beautiful

  • yes, i just posted some vids that are more gypsy inspired...this sarabande isn't a gypsy piece...the violin itself was referred to as a gypsy violin. you're right...gypsy music is SOOOO hard...so emotional...

  • thanks again!!!

  • sweet violin!

  • hey...thanks :D

  • lots of reverb, works well. I played this song in lessons in high school, but tempo is too slow and metered.. Let it out!!

  • hi anarchist :D these are sound samples that i'm doing of a large collection of violins...so i'm trying to reveal the potential of the instrument instead of focusing on my playing...i hear what you mean lol...i'm so into the resonance of this particular violin that i was paying no attention to the piece. I should do some of both--thanks for noticing it...i'll fix it :D
