hmmh, interesting... i seem to recall an interview from way back in the day when "surfing" was first released, where joe stated that he was using his thumb to tap some of the notes on the g-string in some part of the song, but he doesn't seem to be doing it here... am i mistaken? anybody more knowledgable than me about this kind of stuff? or am i way off and it was actuall "day at the beach"? also, i prefer the shorter, more concise studio version to this one. this is of course still awesome!

@Koroar Hi man, you know it's actually true that this song is much easier than it seems, but it remains pretty hard to master for sure, and to make it sound perfectly close to the original.

I've practiced this one for a year, and I still can't make it sound perfect haha

And of course I can only dream of being able to compose such tunes...this is insane! :D

But for real, if you guys play the guitar, don't be discouraged by the technical aspect, get some tab and try it out!! ;)

You're right though. Midnight isn't too difficult. Most intermediate guitarists can play it with minimal practice. Probably if these Satch fans actually attempted the piece instead of being stuck in a state of childish wonder, they could pull it off.

If anything, this performance isn't Satch's best... He needs t get on the neck pickup and roll his tone volume off to get the faraway sound he gets so well with Midnight

lol, He just plays a bit faster with his right hand. In this song, each finger has it's own pattern, which change many times throughout the piece. It starts with the 4 fingers doing single notes in a percise pattern and timing (some notes are hit easy, some hard) takes alot of feeling. Then the all over the neck fast tapping, then the 2 hand alternate tap, then a slow progression followed by the same pattern in the beginning but faster. Let's see you do this .
