AAAAARHG! I want to buy a Fireball, but don't know which one to pick. I know the 100w version has some extra features, but the only one I'm interested in is the midboost function. Could someone help me? I am only interested in differences in sound, and whether the 60w sounds like the 100w with the midboost OFF or ON. yeah, ok. so the head with a cab (even a 1*12) would have a more bassy tone. the combo, which I have, is more on the brighter side compared to the other engl amps I think. but IMO this is only great because it cuts through better in the mix. although when I play heavy and loud (which I do most of the time), it is like all the high frequences come out the front, and all the BR00TALZ com out the back. so it really loses a lot of tone. wouldn't be a problem with a cab though, but it's expensive!

And now when I remember, I've had some problems with it lately. at first weird feedback-like and howling sounds started comming from the amp, then more often as well as louder. now it won't give me much volume, it just has very low volume. I don't want to turn it up louder, and the problem started a few months ago. the tubes look fine, I've had the amp for 1.5 years without changing anything.what should i do? thanx
@ogardsveien I never had a SINGLE problem with the Amp. Even when I had doubts I called Engl Portugal for assistance from a cell phone. That's exclusive. You should return for repair, its very weird all the problems you mention. Is it still under warranty? It is built like a tank ;)

yes, the screamer is great for almost any music genre, including the different styles in metal. I play COB, LOG, metallica, in flames, and it suits it all. it is not like you have a single possible metal sound you can get from it, but several just by using the lead presence and mid controls. i discovered the gain increases A LOT when you turn up the volume. normally when I play at bedroom levels, I have the gain at max. I played death/melodic metal with a band today, and had the gain on half!
I wonder how it sounds with single, or double note solos. Would be nice to hear some Heavy Blues solos ala Steppin Out, or Parisienne Walkways. Clapton/Moore. Wjhat about Steve Vai, or EVH type solos? Will this ENGL do those tones?

i had my blackmore head about 10 years now, first one in the u s a , a little harsh, no matter how you set it, finally getin a good tone, loudest 100 watt amp iever heard, way too loud, but gettin some decent blackmore an zz top sounds finally, treble,, off, bass on 2 o clock, lead, noon, master on 9 o clock, presence, from 9 to 2 oclock, lead volume9 o clock or more, other green lite channel, to harsh by itself, much experimentation, great blackface fendery nearly, on clean..i prefer plexi...

this tube amp is in a different league from your vox, you will have to try it at a store to really appreciate the tone and high again. CHeck out my screamer demos too.

I have the VOX AD50VT. It is a nice amp for what it is but I can tell you right now that this amp shits all over it. This is an all tube amp. The vox is hybrid (one tube in the preamp).

This is an all tube amp. 2 channels witch double with the footswitch (not included) but you can double them aswell by hand.One distortion, a good one ;) eq, plus spring reverb from accutronics. I had one amp like yours, it has one tube, but the amp is fully digital. So u have more options.

The sound you're talking its not normal. These Amps are very quiet even at high gain settings with high volume.

Awesome tone! Great combination of guitar and amp! I ended up with a bogner but I always wanted an ENGL! Maybe soon. What is the model you are playing? Nice riffs! I remember when ENGL was out first way before bogner and they had the best stuff on the market but hard to find!

B0gner: Hi, the thing is, it has 4 channels, the Z5 only gives a better access to them.The Z5 is connected like a midi cable.The Z5 has:Clean,crunch,soft lead,reverb/contour( contour for other Engl amps)and a Master A/B that acts like a boost,wich u control behind the amp with a little pot.I had to read the manual whe I bought it;)Cheers

Hi juca, do you have lots of distortion types on that amp, on my vox AD30VT I have US higan, Uk modern, uk 80's, uk 70's and much more, does this amp have this sort of thing?

this tube amp is in a different league from your vox, you will have to try it at a store to really appreciate the tone and high again. CHeck out my screamer demos too.

Hmm, so your saying the Engl is better than the VOX? I don't think so, the vox is tube, has loads of effects built in, and has lots of AMP types.

Oh yes . I'm positive it shits on vox! you won't know till u demo one, you shold be able to tell from this demo! Your vox is an ok budget practise amp i must admit tho.

Well I'm happy with my VOX, to be honest I've never heard of an ENGL, and if I would get a new amp, it would be a marshall.

I have the VOX AD50VT. It is a nice amp for what it is but I can tell you right now that this amp shits all over it. This is an all tube amp. The vox is hybrid (one tube in the preamp).

This is an all tube amp. 2 channels witch double with the footswitch (not included) but you can double them aswell by hand.One distortion, a good one ;) eq, plus spring reverb from accutronics. I had one amp like yours, it has one tube, but the amp is fully digital. So u have more options.
