at the very end of the musical randomly theres a scene where all the workers go out and have a fun little nazi march. and the movie didnt come first it was a play before. the movie was horrible so if they went off of the movie then once again the script is bad.
my school is doing this musical and im the doctor and i intend to play him as a pretty mad man...very dark voiced character...both videos ive seen of men playing the doctor have very kind voices...only parts i see him having a kind voice is "I waltz alone" and his line right after the baron gets shot. But the set was great here...no doubt this school has a hell of alot of funding and my school can put up great sets and we dont get funding at all but this otto has a great voice.
-Wow! - What qualified director would ever let you play the doctor "mad"? The doc is tired, bitter, fed-up, annoyed at his bum leg, annoyed at life, frustrated, but not mad!
Did you see a B'way performance?
-This school doesn't get funding either. Money is raised thru advertising and ticket sales. What does Otto's voice have to do with your ability to put up great sets without funding? Geez . . read what you've written before hitting the POST COMMENT button!!
I didnt see a B'way performance cause Grand Hotal has a horrible script. its too fast and not very charming at all. the nazi sceen is put in there randomly. sure its towards WW2 but its like the writters just threw abunch of ideas and crambd them into apile of shit. Also the doctor is synical, hes bitter about life all over not just his leg. he has a warpd mind ever sinse what happend in WW2. thats the information you get after reading the script and not watching someone else doing a badjob atit
my school is doing this musical... im the doctor and i plan on doing a much better job than this man... i find kringelein to be most appealing and very well cast
Great! - Just what we need to hear: a 16 year-old, barely out of diapers [I hope], giving qualified, insightful, sophisticated comments like "just horrible"! I truly value your comment... oops - - I flushed it. Hey, look at that - the water's blue!
Rachel you sound like a fool. The student you said was horrible was evaluated by Broadway professionals and was awarded Best Supporting Actor in two different HS Theatre Awards events in New York and New Jersey.
great job!!!i have friends in this show and i went to see it.its better being there!i cant wait to see this years show...merrily we roll along!wonderful job by everyone!
Now get your calculator....... Okay - roughly 750 tickets are sold for each of the four performances [SRO!!]. Mostly, they are $15. Appx $5000 is generated from advertising in the program book. Please add it all up! Now take off about 10%, because the total seems a bit high to me!!! BTW - the "town" and "Board of Ed" contribute zero.
Thanks for responding!!! You could just post a few minutes at a time of the opening number, in seperate parts. I was in a production of this back in 1993. One of my favorite shows of all time. Anything else you can post from the show would be great...even if it is edited down a lot. I have no video of our production of Grand Hotel due to the fact that it was professional theatre with equity actors...etc. No videotaping allowed :-( So it is a real treat watching yours! Thanks again.
It's recommended in the script-package that Bolero NOT be performed without accomplished dancers. The cast members choreographed the number, but it wasn't as "polished" as the rest of the show.. and time was running short, so the director decided, out-it-goes, rather than compromise the rest of the "spectacular!" The show was also performed without an intermission, and they didn't want to go over the 2-hour mark.
i was just in Grand Hotel at my high school and played kringelein we used your set this was from bergon county NJ right? we shipped the set down to baltimore i think our production was better but you guys arent bad at all
Yes! I know.. I admire his acting ability, especially since his "real" personality is soooo different from the character! Thanks for "his" compliment!
HE's Fantastic!! he has bright future! his Otto is fantastic what high schoo is this?? GREAT JOB I knew Robert Wright very well he would be very proud....
The kid portraying Otto is BRILLIANT!! Jeter would have have been thrilled with this performance. Love the set and the lights too...amazing and they add so much! This truly is GRAND...I still have to remind myself that this is HIGHSCHOOL.
very good. not an easy song to sing honestly.
Michael Jeta on B'Way and Barry James in London were excellent, and this guy is close. well done.
Also, Doctor isn't mad. Just weary of life and cynical.

4 months ago, you wrote that you were playing the doctor. Did you? You don't sound like GRAND HOTEL was too much fun.
The writers didn't just throw this piece together randomly. They followed the plot-lines of the movie.
Really - there is a Nazi scene? Where?

This is a high school? Whoa! My high school did musicals, but they were not as good at this.

This is high school? Unbelievable!!! Can you post the opening number & the bolero? This cast is stellar. Still can't believe it's high school.

Yup!!
The opening number is WAY too long for youtube, and I haven't decided just how to edit it down. They cut Bolero!
Still yup!!

Oh no... I hate when they cut the Bolero. It's one of my favorite parts of the show.
