  • Awesome video!!:D Thanks

  • OMG ! lenova sucks !!

  • can i write file on this

  • When I chose mine to be Mandriva 2007.1 it did it in like 1 second!

  • At walmart they have 1gb, 2gb, and 4gb flash drives all for 8 dollars

Yes, a 1gb stick is 8 bucks and so is a 4gb. Makes sense right?

  • 5:45 soo funny LOL "scary ! ScArY!)

  • Thanx for that. Got a msg that it was not a COM32R image boot, but the way to get around that is to hit the Tab button, type "LIVE" hit enter. For some it appears to work from there, but not for me so with nothing to lose I typed "Slax" and off it went. Just follow the instructions from there.

  • Very nice tutorial. Better than a lot of them I've watched. . .BTW, I liked the way he talked during the vid, somepeople (not me, LOL) aren't computer guru's & need to be reminded of certain things.

  • sounds like a friggin teacher, hope u learned something new today....lol

    good tutorial though

  • Dude i love your accent, i can easily understand what you say.

  • Can't I just choose Slax for USB instead?

    you need help

  • maby we are some who got a mac

  • Thanks for your help.

I tried to make a f****n openSuse installer on my pendrive, but the informations what I found on their website were crap.

eg. They recommended to use ImageWriter.exe - this program has only 2 settings and also has two problems :)

    1. It need RAW imagefile however u can download from Suse site ISO file.

    2. It just haven't seen my pendrive at all...:)

(and I found many other informations as well but your solution the clearest)

Unetbootin just works properly. Thanks again.

  • @adbable maybe you usb drive is unacessable, they go through this on systm search 'boot linux usb on windows' in youtube and the video should come up ;)

  • I am running on windows 7. If I boot another operating system, will it erase my files on windows?

  • @craigmingo14 not if you boot from a disk or usb drive, you are prompted to just run off the disk or usb or comepletely install it :)

  • @TheJaakeee So what? Install Windows Xp instead 7, I did.

  • Perfect video :D

  • Hey, i managed to run Ubuntu on my PC, thanks to you :)

Although, during shutdown it seems i somehow crapped one of my PC's USB Ports, i'm not blaming you, but watch out guys :S

  • Excellent, educating video. Thanks man!

  • oh... I forgot... if, after trying this, you decide to install linux on your harddisk... no problem. You can use the same USB to use for install. Just click "install" that's it.

  • btw. i choose crunchbang linux for this because its superlight. Most of the time its speedier than the OS (windows) on the machine itself.

  • I am typing this now from my Crunchbang linux USB install... :)

You can also try "pendrive linux" (google it up, its also an USB install program, like the one describe in this clip) To safe stuff, and safe settings and such... choose "persistant" option... you will see this sooner or later.

  • excellent..

  • very nice video

  • this was a good vid,i learned something, and i helped out my bud who had his computer hacked to the point where all he could use was safe mode,i sold him the bootable drive for 25 bucks,it cost me 5 bucks and about 15 minutes and boom,he's got ubuntu, all he has to do is save his stuff onto an external hd

  • thanks hope it works,!(:

  • can u install stuff on this slax thing??

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!

  • So much blah blah for a simple procedure...

  • Thankyou so much. after school i tried doing this and it was a really fun project for2 days!!! Just now i did the final boot up and used slax.

not quite as good as windows 7 but fun anyway

  • I can understand bootable USBs may be most useful on Netbooks due to lack of DVD Drives. But could bootable CD/DVDs be used on netbooks if you have an external DVD Drive (USB DVD Drive) or is that only recognized by the current OS? Is that even an option? I don't have a netbook at my disposal; netbooks don't suit all my needs.

It is concerning my brother's netbook; because if he ever has a vulnerability and needs to reinstall XP, he must either use a bootable USB or my external DVD Drive.

  • @yoshifannumba3 Yes, but usually you have to configure the BIOS.

  • Do wireless drivers work on this Linux Distro? I've had bad luck with dabbling in both Fedora and Red Hat when dealing with wireless drivers. Linux Mint and Ubuntu seem fully compatible with wireless drivers and all drivers for that matter.

  • How can i use this method to install mac os x on my pc? My PC don't have CD drive. I want to install it from an external drive. I followed your proceedure then i changed the slax.iso to my mac.iso. But nothing happened when i boot my pc t from external drive. Can you help pzzzzzzz... many thanks

  • will this be perminent, meaning, if i install ubunto to my 16GB flash drive will i still have xp on my comp???

  • im so scared..

  • you would love opensuse

  • no offence but you sound a little like willy wonka

  • Thanks this Helped me!

  • You need to MD5 test the ISO dude. The image may have corrupted in download or not even 100% complete. I suggest you add this to the guide.

  • :D Awesome ! Joke )))

  • would it boot on my 360?

  • @jayjay95fly no but it will on a ps3

  • skaaaaaaaarrry!!! skaaaaaaaaaaaarry!!!! skaaaaaaaaaaarrry!!! :D

    likey likey!!!

  • can you do this on ps3?

  • Will this work with Jolicloud? Its a linux based os designed for netbooks.

  • Everything went well then when I booted from USB I was presented with a menu of maybe 6 options and none of them worked. Ideas?

  • 5 stars! I love the way you explained everything. Very good video.

  • "Look, I'm not using windows vista anymore!!" yay :p good vid

  • 10q

  • no its only good for trying it out.

if u want it functional its way different partitioning and all that stuff.

i have yet to see a vid on how to create linux on usb with persistant memory.

i got ubuntu to boot like this from usb just by saving image to usb then change bios and it runs (asus aspire one netbook).

  • Hey Vince.

But can you save on it unlike Live CD? (Question for anyone who knows the answer.)

  • 5 Stars :)

Lol, he was talking to us like we are retards

    "Remember the drive ok? remember"

  • Once I am in linux, how do I use apps (firefox, Openoffice), without permanently installing linux?

  • would it even recognize another flash drive? Oh- and what does virtualbox do?

  • i added Linux os to my Vista harddrive instead of a flash pin drive. but i can't update the ububuntu

  • Who dosen't have a Pendrive? i have a 64GB pendrive...HAHA

  • If you boot from USB, the OS does use the graphical hardware doesn't it? Not a virtual graphics card or anything? Sorry, I haven't done this before.

  • It uses the GPU yeah, So if you dont have an video card, it wont run

  • Can you change back into window

  • Yay! You use chrome too! BTW, are you on Vista or 7?

  • You have skype!

    3:43!

  • can you put a video of how it looks like to put a youtube banner on (the thing above the sub button

  • yoy have to be a partner

  • wow dude i know i asked HOW IT LOOKS LIKE when youre logged on as one and how to edit it just interested..

  • This is actually a really good video. Just one question (I'm sorry if you said in the video) - Does this work on XP or do you need Vista/7?

  • it does work on xp :) i haven't tried it on vista though

  • lenovo laptop

  • @Christopher1679 Desktop Actually.

  • @vbognot626

in ububuntu you have an installationroutine, where you can chose to install it on an usb-device...

  • @vbognot626 i need to know as quickly as possible to go back to your normal computer do you just turn it off and then back on and its normal and everything is back

  • @vbognot626 What about the bios startup logo?

  • nice video, had to use this method to install ubuntu on mine earlier cause my burning don't like dvds :) but also just a note to your viewers the distro can be downloaded automatically by selecting the distribution at the top of unetbootin window, but anyway 5 * :)

  • dose this work with mac ?

  • windows or linux only as far as i know

  • @middlefinger22 I haven't tried a recent Ubuntu LiveCD with my Mac Mini, but logically it SHOULD work. The recent Intel Macs are pretty much PCs with a list of internals set by Apple. You would have to find a way to boot from a USB drive though, I know that the Sugar on a Stick OS uses a helper CD to boot to the USB drive on a Mac.

  • i wasn't sure if middlefinger was talking about setting up the usb drive or booting from the usb drive, i know unetbootin is windows or linux maybe there's a mac equivalent

  • @jinarion1 Ah yes, I looked on the SoaS page and it says that you have to have access to a Win/Lin PC to make the USB stick bootable.

  • i wonder if this would work in virtual eviroment like vmware or parallels?

  • @jinarion1 Probably, if it allows USB booting.

  • Or a LIVE CD!

  • my thought is if someone was using a mac with parallels and a windows virtual machine (or linux) to set up the usb drive then
