  • IELTS is a lot like a high school English exam. Same silly topics no sane person ever thinks about.

  • Skip to 1:58 to see what you came here for !!

  • I got a test after 5 days!!! Anyone can tell me whether I will be allowed to take a small bottle of water with me inside the test room? Can I drink water in the middle of the test?

  • @tensorbundle You're allowed to take a clear plastic bottle of water with you into the IELTS test room and you are allowed to drink the water during the test. Good luck for Saturday. Pete

  • @tensorbundle i think so, we have same day on ielts test! 02 18....good luck! by the way, where are you taking your test?

  • anyone interested to talk in english for improving Speaking, please contact me

    my SKYPE id is: ilovecivilengg

    thank u

  • It seems the mark are given by the way on how people look... thats Racism. The ideal method IELTS to conduct this test is by not looking at the person and only listening to the way they speak...

  • @buzzrag2 Thanks for your comment. To put your mind at rest, IELTS examiners around the world all use the same criteria to give candidates a score for their speaking. To get an IELTS Speaking band score 8.0, for example, a candidate must "speak fluently with only occasional repetition or self-correction". You can see more of the IELTS Speaking criteria on some of our other videos. Pete

  • hi everybody my name is hoshyar and from iraq and i have studyed english in malaysia since last month please someone helps me in order to my english so good especially of way speak with me that is my skype (hoshyar_2005)

  • Best way is, to talk in english. Not only on topics you like but also on topics you don't like or not interested in. As a non native speaker, I scored a 7 in speaking because....I like to speak with people. Even in a different language. Of course I had a lack of my language skill but the more you are interested in speaking, the easier it goes. Speaking was the easiest part for me. Unfortunately I have to take the test again because my last approach was 3 years ago *g*

If anyone wishes to know further, I am more than happy to help. Or upon request I can post my own video regarding how I did and what I did.

    MHK

  • @wisenumb Dear in READING, something went fishy. You should have put up a request for rechecking. Else you have done great. Just as a guess, let me know how much time you given to each section/module?

  • hello i am goin to give for IELTS exam for the first time may be in december.. but i feel i dont hav enough fluency.. how can i improve?

  • @TheBethyCat

To improve your spoken fluency before your IELTS test in December, it’s important to give yourself as many opportunities as possible over the next few weeks to speak in English.

One way to get more spoken fluency practice would be to arrange a regular time with one or two other IELTS candidates to talk about some IELTS speaking topics.

If you'd like some individual help with your speaking, check out the tutoring options on our website at the link in the video description.

  • Is it stoping to think a bad idea ?

    Example:

"That's an interesting question, but to be honest, i never thought about that before.... let me think how to put this in words.......... I think that ..."

  • @dieeeeeeeeeeego That's a good question.

I think if you get asked a difficult question in your IELTS speaking test and you can’t answer straight away, one way to sound less hesitant is to use phrases like 'let me think', 'that's a difficult question' and 'I've never thought about that before'.

You could also ask the examiner to repeat the question.

  • Thnx Pete your reply was very helpful.. Just want to know 1 more thing that my friend is giving ielts exam so how can i help her? i have given ielts exam by AU and i got 7.5 which is not too bad. so give me some suggestion how can i help her to get 8.0 bands??? i need yor suggestion Pete thnx

    sam

  • @hassam171 Hello again, Sam. I think one of the most useful ways in which you could help your friend is to talk to her in English as much as possible.

You (and your friend) should also check out the IELTS preparation blog on our website where we've put lots of suggestions about preparing for the speaking test as well as some tips for the test itself. You can find the link on our Youtube channel page.

  • hi pete my name is sam actually i just want to know that how they judge candidate during ielts exam wether its there accent or grammer r vocabulary????

    thnx waiting for your response

    sam

  • @hassam171 Hi Sam, in your IELTS Speaking test, the examinar will listen to your spoken fluency, your use of vocabulary, your use of grammar, and your pronunciation.

It would be a good idea if you think about which of these you need to improve before your speaking test. You may, for example, think that you need to learn more vocabulary so that in your test you can explain your ideas more easily.

    Pete

  • Hi Pete,,, I am your student from Singapore. I have just received my result for the test taken two weeks ago. I've got band 8 for my speaking test. Thanks to you and the team. I couldn't have done this without your help.

By the way, just a comment, people in Singapore speak great english, but that doest mean that IELTS examiners in Singapore have differnt criteria for candidates.

Good Luck to those who are taking the test soon!! :)

  • @kgkg001 That's great news. Congratulations. I'm glad we were able to help you get the IELTS Speaking score you need. Pete

  • Dear Pete , The result of IELTS is enormously different from country to country.

If Inga is in Sri Lanka for her speaking test , she will definitely score a band score of 5.

    0 for her level.

In here the examiners don't let the candidates to complete their answers as Inga did.

There were many of my friends who had extremely bitter experiences on speaking.

No different in writing as well.

Having an examiner like you is a myth for Sri Lankan candidates.

  • @PradeepUNEX

    Thanks for your comment.

While I have never met anyone who examines in Sri Lanka, I do know that IELTS examiners everywhere receive a lot of training and use the same criteria to give candidates speaking and writing scores.

IELTS examiners are also monitored regularly to make sure they are conducting the speaking tests appropriately and grading candidates fairly.

I'd like to think that if Inga took her IELTS test in Sri Lanka, she'd get a similar score for her speaking.

    Pete

  • @ieltspreparationblog hello, do you conduct speaking test via skype? I've taken the IELTS and got 6.5 for the speaking part which I'm very annoyed with, at the same time I scored 8.0 on the mock exam.....

  • @DeniskaFromRussia

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the IELTS Speaking band score that you wanted.

In answer to your question, yes we can help you with your speaking by arranging some speaking sessions on Skype. Have a look at the IELTS tutoring options on our website - the link is in the video description above.

I'm also going to send you a message with more details.

    Pete

  • she is rlly goood ...but the pronunciation is not very good

  • @xznomadzx

    Thanks for your comment.

Inga does have a Russian accent, but it says in the public version of the IELTS band score descriptors that at an IELTS band score 8.0...

    - the candidate's accent has "minimal affect on intelligibility"

In Inga's IELTS test, the IELTS examiner must have found it easy to understand Inga's accent.

When I interviewed Inga, I found that I could understand her pronunciation easily.

    Pete

  • wow she is gud gooood !!!!!!!!!!
