  • Would a no contract palm pre work on At&t?

    help Anyone?

  • no AT&T uses sim cards. Sprint does not.

  • If you can get an unlocked GSM version from the UK then yes. The one on sprint is CDMA only hense the "Ev" icon at the top which stands for EVDO the technology that verizon and sprint use not AT&T or T-Mobile.

  • Cleveland FTW.

  • This is Done on a Mac

  • I used to live in Farmington Hills. LOL

  • invisible man are you from around the novi area. because i live right next to novi michigan.

  • No. But I go to school at EMU so I know the area and I love Bora Bora Bistro.

  • yeah it's awesome. that whole area is nice.

lol i just came back form their

    awesome chill palce

  • Is it possible to use voice (on a call) and use data if you are in a wifi area? Will the phone automatically utiize the wifi connection for data?

  • Is voice/data at the same time a CDMA limitation or something specific to Sprint's implementation of it?

  • Go to Google Maps and drag the little orange person figure on the left side on to a street. You will see a real view of that area. Note: the whole US has not been photographed yet. Google does this with a moving car with multiple cameras on top. You might be able to just wheel scroll in all the way and it will auto change. Click on the X at top right to exit.

  • he said street view is not available in the emulator, is it in the real device?

  • Oh, man... sorry. I played with the phone a little but was limited by the Demo mode. Without even owning the Pre yet, I got a feeling it is not available. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • so is or isnt there street view mode on the final device?

  • No. I'm afraid not.

  • is there Google Transit? for public transit? please please find this out!

  • I have not seen anything about this. But there will be many more apps available once the Pre actually launches.

  • So far there is no street view on the Pre.

  • how often do apps lock up?

i really hope they have street view at launch...

  • Not very often at all. I mean this is a brand new OS so you can expect something every once in a while. This is also an emulator so you can expect it even more. But to be honest WebOS feels very smooth.

  • Invisible man: You're in Ohio, aren't you?

  • Yes, why? You saw it start in Ohio?

  • Yeah that, and in another video someone IM'd you and I googled them. I got a bunch of Ohio-ish stuff. Whatever. I'm from Zanesville. Thanks for all the vids.

  • Will they do voice turn by turn gps like the instinct

  • I hope they add Google Transit by launch

  • Only the GSP versions of the Pre will be capable of voice and data at the same time. So what you can do on the Sprint's version of Pre is you can have a web page or goggle maps loaded in a card while you're on the phone. You just wont be able to move the map around in Google maps because that would require concurrent data with the audio, which you can't currently do on a CDMA phone.

  • GSM, not "GSP"

  • i thought that sprint will use there own gps navigation system app not google navigation

  • TeleNav and Sprint TV will be loaded on the Pre at launch, but it's not seen here. It has both, and this doesn't have everything the Pre will have.

  • thanks

  • Can you use Telenav and voice simultaneously? Does Telenav use data from internet like Google maps does?

  • Of course telenav uses data when using it.

  • Sprints GPS app is a separate and independant of the Google Maps app and accompanying directions capabilities.

  • thanks

  • I am confused. Doesn't this phone have an independent GPS radio?

  • Yes it's supposed to have built in GPS

  • Yeah, then why can't you talk and use Google Maps at the same time? Unless its using cellular data with Google Maps as well :/

  • GPS is used just for your location. Retrieving map data based on your location requires data connection.

  • Shame that there is no street vie. I love the G1's implementation of it.

  • wait, isn't looking at google map = data and you said earlier that simultaneous voice & data usage is not possible? which is it? i'm confused. thx.

  • Thank you for pointing this out. I have ammended it within the video. You will NOT be able top do simultaneous voice and data

  • i was hoping it wouldn't be true :( bummer because that would be a pretty cool thing to have.

  • Actually....if you already have the map in the phones cache (pre-loaded) you should be able to look at the map while talking...you just can't search or pull up any NEW map information....

  • Just tried this on my Treo 755p and sure enough...if look at a map, THEN make a call, I can still go back to the map and look at it, but if I pan it enough that it needs more info it says "loading" until I end the call and then it actually downloads the data

  • Uhm, since the Pre will be a Sprint phone, you can't use data (i.e. anything beyond what you've already loaded on Google Maps) when in a call.

  • Thank you for pointing this out it slipped my mind
