  • Lovely

  • Perfect.

  • Class!!!

  • Just love the Bass playing..

  • I am trying to get Renaissance to a local South East club, but all my music promoters have failed so far.

Come on Annie - come to a nice warm club near Sevenoaks in Kent and I'll buy you a drink !!!! You'd probably get paid as well....

  • Annie has the voice of an angel. Seraphins and cherabims watch out. She will steal your job with her angel voice.

  • I can only hope that if I make Heaven, the music will sound like this band.

  • One of my all time loveliest tracks

  • This song takes me back to being a teenager... ...I am still waiting for someone to post Judith Durham's version...

Maybe someone can answer this: Am I right in thinking Keith Relph from the Yardbirds started this band? I seem to remember hearing that somewhere...

  • @Dumaguetenonputi

ive been trying to find that one myself for a while know.

  • @spannerman69 it's on already. Just type in the search box, "Judith Durham Northern Lights and it'll guide you there...

  • not just a Lancashire lass but from Bolton I believe, where I first saw her perform live

so that's 2 stars from bolton and they live near me ? if u include peter kay !

  • Renaissance will play 9/16 in Norfolk CT at INFINITY Hall.

    - I have my ticket already.

  • An exquisite voice and lovely shoulders.

  • Just fabulous. Why on earth is this band not well known? When I get into conversations about music and mention Renaissance or Annie Haslam, I am always met with blank looks. Oh well, at least us believers appreciate them.

  • @junkers290

they were not played on radio that is why lots of great songs are unknown. this 1978 should have been played more and billy joel played less.

  • The only thing that is not smothered by Annie's beautiful voice are the amazing bass lines

  • Mmmmmmmmm so easy and effortless, pure magic!

  • The best voice ive ever heard, absolutely amazing. Nobody comes close to this singer, so pure. Erm,the bass player ain't bad either.

  • biopsychocio...i agree

  • adore this song

  • one of the most pure, beautiful tunes from Renaissance & Annie...(I Think of You is another that still captivates me)...

  • @freacls- i know what you mean, and you're right, but this song isn't about THEE 'Northern Lights'. Annie wrote the song while working in the USA and missing her man, THEE Roy Wood. It's an amazing song.

  • very nice song. very calming. thanks for sharing.

  • someone shopuld make a video with thise song and show the real nothern lights it be amazing

  • Listen to the lady sing Island. She was raw and young but what range and promise. takes me back to the first time I experienced her awesome voice.

  • a Superb song

  • brings back memories of growing up in the seventies, loved this song!

  • WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE TOP OF THE POPS APPERANCE,

  • @shaftsbury94 It gets blocked whenever I try to upload it (along with LOTS of other stuff) WMG/UMG Copyright :(

  • @keef1212 thanks dude love to see it again

  • Hardly heard on radio, but still Annie delivers her voice at a high tone.

  • I saw them in the 70's in Allentown, PA, Muhlenburg College. Awesome.

  • This would never get past Pop Idol/ x-factor/ bgt ( no it hasn't)

  • @idle44

  • Brilliant song that brings back great memories. :-)

  • I'm so used to modern manufactured rubbish that I thought for a moment that Annie was lip-synching. Stupid me, of course she isn't. She's a proper singer and a damn fine one at that. Nice dress too!

  • After 43 years of deliberation of what my favourite song of all time is, I've finally concluded this one. So evocative. Sung so well. So tuneful. Great band - and takes me right back to my childhood. The thing that made me decide on this was I can listen to other songs, but I can hear this over and over and over again and never tire of hearing it. Fantastic song. A real gift.

  • @biopsychosocio are you by any chance my twin. i had the same sentimets for the last 40 yrs. 9 dislikes what great post all the best

  • @biopsychosocio Eh. Renaissance is among my favorite bands. I saw them in concert 8 times in the 70's. This song has never been among my favorites.

  • @biopsychosocio you have a gift with words. i concur

  • @biopsychosocio same age as y bio takes me back to my childhood.great times

  • @biopsychosocio It's a beautiful song.

  • A great song that sounds as good today as 30 odd years ago when it was first released. Maybe i`ll get to see the northern lights one day!

  • She sings of higher things , very beautiful.

  • One of my favourite songs ever. What a voice, Incredible!!!!

  • Came across this on youtube and i loved it when it was released. must have seen it on TOTPS and played on radio 1 at the time. Great to hear it again.

  • I have NO idea why this group is not better known. Try Scheherezade (spelling) for your first album. They always deliver..

  • Search for: TNT - Northern lights. Most beautiful music ever written

  • I want to check out some Renaissance albums but there are a lot to choose from ... which should I start with?

  • @lilmonstar98

"Scheherazade and other stories" and "Ashes are burning"

  • a beautiful voice - the way she's singing, i thought she was going to run out of range, but no, she sings on without going harsh or anything, amazing voice

  • I like here her looks

Annie sure got a huge talent

    looks are indeed relevant.

for years l liked annie lennox but she embarresed me

here annie haslem looks a gentle and pretty lady

  • I am on Annie's mailing list. Renaissance is still performing sometimes., too.

  • Great posting, Thanks.

Lucky enough to have seen them through out the 70's - a smaller music hall in Buffalo NY was a fond memory - all 'cozy' venues!

  • Fantastic ballad - it's been over 20 years since I heard it, and this brought back to me jjust what a powerful yet moving song it is...

  • This song makes me cry and what a lovely dress she is wearing.

    God bless america

  • @tigersteve1 yes God bless us all but Annie is a Lancashire girl and we are not letting you take her from us.

I have seen Renaissance live four times - what performances they were

  • Considering the studio version had almost a full orchestra, they do a fantastic job here with this live version! Thanks for posting.

  • Man i realy miss the late 70s early 80s those where the days.Everything seemed so easyr going then today.

  • One of my all time favorite groups. Brings back good memories of the the late 70's when I saw them live in Rochester, New York twice, once at the Eastman Theater, It was the perfect venue for them.

  • 5thegranary you really know your girl singers. I agree entirely and am old enough to have seen them all. I think though you can add Barbara Dickson to your list.

  • When ever i Played this song in the 70's and 80's my familey knew i would be gone with in the next 48 hrs that i was on my way back to sea.i had been posted and be away for the next 6 months.

  • when ever i played this in the 70's and 80's my familey knew in a few days 3 at the most i was due back to sea.i had been posted to a ship and would be away for the next 6 months

  • Bought the song ..lovely voice

  • Hearing this again takes me back to listening to Radio Caroline as it was a regular on their play list back in the 70s

  • Fantastic

  • love this band...love annie haslam. such a rich, fluid voice

  • Beautiful song. Bought the single which lead to the live album. Listen to Mother Russia and you'll appreciate just how good this band were.

  • @pjjclarke driveing trucks up from london i see the Northern Lights about 29 then i know i will be geting home fuck the south nowt but a load of twats

  • Fantastic! It's amazing how some songs get lodged in your head. It's been years since I heard this.

    Beautiful singer

  • Annie...........

  • annie haslam....the sexiest chick that's ever sung a song. this is one girl i'd love to meet. ah well.i'll keep on dreaming!

  • i probably heard this in the 1980s and loved it but it was while traveling in the car and the radio station never said who it was. sad how it was so hard to find out who sang what back then.

  • Really brings me back to my childhood this song. I think certain songs stick in your mind from childhood because they are unique (which this is) and they are brilliant. Thanks for uploading!

  • park west chgo 6/29/10. sadly they didn't do this one, but a stellar show none the less. annie sounded great, worth the 27 year wait!

  • one of my fave songs, just a great melody

  • WOW! Annie Haslam still has an awesome voice! I'm so excited to see them in Quebec City next month. This reminds me of my college days.

  • where have the years gone ?

  • This track is absolutely brill!! It takes me way back and reminds me of much better times. We need a lot more of this. I'm a bit of a keyboard player and I'd love to get involved with anyone who could point me in the right direction of like minded people who'd be interested in reproducing this kind of stuff

Annie Haslam still rocks, I looooove her!!!

  • damn shes goergeous, moi aussie

  • love this song so much, one day moi aussie

  • Oh, if my girlfriend could sing like that and would dress like that....if I had a girlfriend...

  • very good, sound very ABBAesque. I wouild love to know this bands background.

  • Great bass playing on this ~ and I think he's playing an Ibanez Eagle bass, same as a guy in an old band of mine in the late 70s ~ haven't seen one since...

  • shocking dress - great voice Annie Haslam - memories of years gone by.

  • got to see them in a small club on Long Island yapped with the bass player at the bar and they played this as my request.Great song great voice(5 octives) met them after wards good people shame they never got bigger

  • like her voice, shame about the turkey foil frock, 80's really was a desperate decade for fashion!

  • Beautiful, so very musical voice !

  • Can't believe how young Mr. Gavin Harrison looked back then!

  • @Royoh Never mind my comment, I suck.

  • FYI,,,,,,,,,,

  • Saw you once - double deal with Caravan - wonderful stuff!!!! :0)

  • one of the best

  • never heard of this band. wish they would have had a top 40 hit in the 1980s so people could have heard them back in the day.

  • @The096757 i saw them in 1978 it was outstanding

  • @The096757 they had a couple this one and jekyll and hyde off the azure d'or album

  • Past or future, here or there, shelter comes in words from you so talk to me...

I hear your voice it comforts me, in morning dreams I take your hand, you walk with me...

Those words always really move me. What a bloody brilliant song, and from a brilliant band.

  • John Camp is an excellent bass player and was an essential anchor to the band including his harmonies.

  • Totally agreed, in most of Renaissance songs Camp's bass-lines are as original as Annie's voice. Truly talented super-group!

  • Absolutely - he is also very highly regarded by Stanley Clarke. I loved his Rickenbacker sound - any ideas of what he is up to these days?

  • SUPERB MEMORIES...great song

  • I love the NL! This song is so true of many of us Alaskans.

  • im in glasgow,been a fan for 20 yrs,yes,im british,born here,rangers,british,check your history

  • I love this song, I really do ! I remember Annie Haslam from the band "Renaissance", great band ! Top singer, beautiful voice !

  • Good bass player............he appears to be playing an Ibanez Eagle bass circa 1974.

  • Thanks for posting. A couple of questions:

    1. Is this commercially available?

    2. Any idea who re-did this song? I heard it on the radio while driving South a couple of months ago. Pretty good, though of course not as good as the original.

  • got this,warner bros label,wow,played it continuously,still do,getting old now!!

  • Always loved this song. Thanks for sharing.

    5/5

  • Magie Reilly, Annie Haslam, Judith Durham - these women really can sing. Thanks for posting this - I'd love to have seen Renaissance live.

  • @5thegranary

Saw them live, when I was a puppy, in the mid 70s. Great.

  • @5thegranary. Yep, I'll second THAT emotion!!

  • @5thegranary And don't forget Sandy Denny.

  • @5thegranary Apparenly they decided to tour again.

  • fantastic and always will hold a place in my heart thx for posting.

  • アニー ハズラムさんいいですねえ

  • One of the UK's finest singers

  • Forget the UK, she is one of that era's finest singers worldwide. Her voice melted me everytime I ever heard it and it still does.(no disrespect to the UK)

  • Chatting with the 'kids' about 'proper' music & even playing classics like this, the Seekers... just get 'strange-looks'

How Medina Lake, Lost Prophets... remotely-compare defeats-me :(

  • love this song

    best copy i could find

    spot on

  • the 80's were not good to this band.

    the 70's however, wow.

  • Annie Haslan sings and makes you dream,

  • I loved the atmosphere this song produced when I was younger. It was a mood setter, putting one in a good mood.

Does anyone have Judith Durham's version they can upload here on YT?

  • fantastic i love this song takes me back to my childhood

  • quite possibly the sexiest singer of all time.

a truly brilliant voice too and attractive with it.

    yeah.annie does it for me.

    what a woman.

  • Not according to matsui2001, who apart from having absolutely no taste, has delusions of grandeur, verbal diarrhea & an over inflated opinion of his own intelligence. If you want a laugh, check it out at Renaissance - Northern Lights [totps]

Opinion always welcome, especially if you agree with me!!!

    All the best.

  • thanks mate.

when it comes to music matsui2001 has about as much taste as a used tea bag.

i see you have a seekers song that i don't know of,plus an old clodagh clip.mmm,2 hot chicks weren't they man? i'll check them out shortly!

the top2 clip of annie is the best cos she shows her tits more. as i said... some woman.

    thanks pal. take care.

  • Angel

  • absolutely love this song.such a beautiful clear voice and gorgeous too

  • Una maravilla!!

  • Brilliant and of course married to Roy Wood of the Move and Wizard

  • panakoo they never married...he did however produce a couple of her solo albums "Annie in Wonderland" being one of them!

  • Cheers, are they still together ?

  • no, she's living in the states...very involved in painting and saving wolves and other wildlife.

she performs locally at a theater called Sayersville around Christmastime.

A DVD is out from a 1977 performance in Philadelphia. Though shot in black and white,

great performance, the footage is disappointing.

  • Thanks for that, she is amazing, a voice of crystal purity. Saving Wolves? a woman after my own heart

  • you can either ck out the northernlights web sight or even annie haslam to see what she's been up to...to see them live was indeed a privilege!

  • bloody great!!!

  • Maravilloso.

  • Lovely to hear this song again. Congratulations from the Northern Isles.

  • i think gavin harrison is the drummer here, he was on America Tour with Renaissance at 1983, so it has to be gavin harrison.

he was 19 years old at this tour...
