  • "No, I'm putting up my mother's car."

I can watch these old classic Memphis promos days and night. They could never get away with most of this stuff today.

  • Eddie Gilbert was a fantastic actor. Unimpressive physique, not a big man by any means and both of those are very important in 'rastlin. What he did have was a tremendous way to sell his act and nobody back then could do it better.

  • Heel wrestlers is what makes wrestling.

  • People don't realize this is the guy who actually started ECW. Granted Heyman did a great job, but Eddie Gilbert actually started it before Gordon and Heyman took it over.

ECW basically took the old Memphis formula and brought it north after Eddie Gilbert started it up there.

  • @SuperDrJeckyl : You're right about people not realizing Gilbert started ECW... even Sapolsky knocks Gilbert's booking as "too Memphis" in that ECW documentary... dumbass doesn't realize the debt ECW owes Memphis...

  • To say Gilbert's better than Lawler is laughable... without Lawler there wouldn't be a "Hot Stuff"... or worse, Eddie would have taken his father as a role model. As far as passing the torch to Eddie, well Lawler should have passed it to someone, but Eddie was much too unpredictable... double-crossing promoters, no showing, shooting on interviews. I love Eddie, but he is a poster child for unprofessional behavior. If still alive, Eddie would be toiling away in indies now...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 He was a great heel and he played a great role in it unprofessional behavior was part of of his act and that was what i loved about him and thats why i put him over mr goodie tussues Jerry Lawler im a bad boy and nice guys finish last.

  • @patsman191 "unprofessional behavior was part of his act"!?!?!? So, part of his act was no-showing? That's ridiculous!! That's no act, that's screwing people who pay to see him!!! Eddie's whole heel character was literally lifted from Lawler... lock, stock and barrel!! How in the world is Lawler a "goodie tussues"!?!?

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 Eddie Gilbert and his nprofessional behavior was what brought the fans in if it was not for the heels there would be no wrestling.

  • @patsman191 : Eddie would no show. That's not part of an act, that's a disregard for the fans who pay money to see you. You see the difference, right?

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 I wouldn't say that Gilbert is better than Lawler. But the two combined as face vs. heel was art. One of the best angles of it's kind, EVER.

  • @Stereobrainagain : Agreed... but I think Lawler could do that with almost anyone (Dundee, Valiant, Mantell, Fargo, Johnson, etc...) while Gilbert couldn't...

  • Eddie Gilbert in my books was better to watch then Jerry Lawler. I dont really like Lawler i think the guy is a asshole if you ast me.

  • I liked Eddie Gilbert MUCH better than I ever liked Jerry Lawler. Eddie was incredibly talented and so fun to watch. R.I.P.

  • Eddie Gilbert was Lawler's cousin see the family resemblance

  • Now they're picking on my mother!

  • Corey Maclin is terrible as a comentator, and Memphis Wrestling has been lamentably bad in recent years. I used to watch it a couple of years ago when I felt like inflicting pain on myself ;).

  • Totally agree! In this video he's sound like he's doing a horrible imitation of Lance Russell. Memphis had great wrestling years ago. They was also good for rehashing angles. Putting his mother car up. I remember Brian Christopher putting his girlfriend car up against Tom Pritchard.

  • one of top 10 great feuds of all time lawler n gibert up there wit freebirds von erich horsemen rhodes to bad not on national stage

  • I didn't knew "The Coach" was that old.

    LOL

  • To say that Corey should replace Ross after he retires just shows you have obviously never heard him call a match. I have met him several times and you won't find a nicer guy, but he really can't call a match all that well. Sounds like a dumbass most of the time. Eddie was GREAT!!!! People around the country who never got to experience Memphis wrestling in it's prime really missed out.

  • Corey is the man! His style is very much like Lance Russel's. I could see Maclin being Ross' replacement when he retires. Gilbert's promo was great too. His "mother's car" LOL! It's to bad they don't post full eps of the new Memphis Wrestling shows on youtube. I love that southern fried rasslin'!

  • Sorry but Corey sucks! The only moves he can call are bodyslam and piledriver. Extremely nice guy though

  • chains, fireballs, cars... wow!

  • cory mach is a ass

  • eddie cut great interview's

  • Whatchu know about "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt Nocholas4Sale?

  • gilbert was awesome in these days

  • What an Idiot! LOLL.. He acts like a crack head!

  • pause it at 3:14.

Can you see the baby's head, yet?

  • They zoom in on Gilbert EVERYTIME Macklin starts to crack up.

  • iron mike sharp

  • After Eddie makes the "pickin on my mother" comment, they zoom in on Gilbert cause Macklin starts to crack up

  • Awesome stuff, those clips really bring back memories. Nobody threw a fireball like Hot Stuff. BTW what is the song

  • good god i thought that was him but i wasnt sure all i remember of him was getting squashed in the wwf week after week thnaks kirkhom44

  • The match shown from 3:21 to about 3:40 was a loser leave town match. Lawler won the match against Gilbert, which set up Jimmy Hart to leave town but set him on a legendary run in the WWE and WCW, and eventually the WWE Hall of Fame!

  • who was the 4th guy with poffo savage and gilbert?

  • To imdagr8st: That 4th guy is a fellow by the name of "Iron" Mike Sharpe. He mostly wrestled as a mid-carder in the WWE in the 1980s, and was known for putting a foreign object or two into his black forearm brace. Although he was a pretty good sized guy, he is not remembered as a great wrestler.

  • Sharpe was a top contender for both singles titles in the WWF back in the early 80's as well as a contender in CWF, Mid-South and British wrestling but in the end became more known as a mid-carder for the WWF.

  • He died on 2/18/95. "I Am The USWA" was later in '94.

  • Lawler was past his prime here but was still a decent wrestler unlike today's Lawler who is a joke. Gilbert was always a Lawler wannabe but was probably better in the ring at this point than McMahon's arse clown.

  • Gilbert was ten times the wrestler, worker, and had 50 times the mind that Lawler had/has for the business.. if Lawler would've done the right thing and passed the torch to Eddie like Fargo did for him, Eddie would still be alive...

  • I believe he died in March of 1994. I miss Eddie Gilbert. One of my favorites
