Here's something to think about Captain Obvious:

All Americans are immigrants (unless you're a native). Being immigrants Americans have origins elsewhere (just like the statue of liberty), and their families have now made America their home(also like the statue of liberty).

So when you actually think about it the Statue of Liberty is a good representation of an American.
