"MSG is bad for you!" is pretty much solid media hype. MSG's just the artificial version of naturally occurring chemicals that you get everywhere in the food world. Hell, if you've ever had japanese food you downed a good wad of it.
You shouldn't use Bouillon cubes because they're just salt, MSG, and food coloring. They do nothing for the food. Make real broth, and get an MSG shaker at an asian market, just to see what a difference it makes.
@LordOmberus MSG makes my heart race, and my mother's too. MSG is far more potent than any natural dosage of it in natural food. It is overkill, and like anything, too much is not good. I don't agree with your comment. The over use of this chemical is not necessary in food. They are just trying to save money. My Chinese food place does not use it, I've asked. A good cook would never use the stuff, he doesn't need to.
It's possible it's entirely psychosomatic, or you could have an underlying heart condition that's being irritated. I can eat MSG laden food with no problem, as can most people. The problem comes when people try to use it as a substitute for real flavors, instead of using it to add to those that are already there.
I to like to cook And you are a great insperation I made a few recipees and posted them on my facebook and WOW the replise are sure to come everybody likes good food I mise your recipees. I hope you makea new one soon.
@MrDannyGZ Small amounts of msg are pretty harmless. The further down on the list msg is, the less harm it will do. The packages I throw away in this video had msg as the second or third ingredient on the list.
Hi Craig. I know you said “don’t ask where to get one of those fat picking brushes or what are they called” but I have two questions, where can I get one and what are they called…LOL…
Is there any chance you could quiz your wife and help me out here? I REALLY want one badly.
@billys652 Aparently it's called a "fat mop". If you Google that, the first result is an Ebay item. There it is! Other results come up as well. It shouldn't be hard to find one. They are amazing and I use mine a lot. It doesn't seem to soak up any of the broth, just the fat. I couldn't live without it.
@CraigTube Thanks so much Craig, your the best!!! Im in Australia so I may have to pay a little more to get one from the US but it looks so neat I really dont mind....
p.s.
Just found it (Ebay)... There cheap as chips so it dont matter. Cheers mate!
@MundaPunjabi83 Thanks! I use a Panasonic mini DV camera and in this video, a Canon Powershot for the second cam. For good audio, always place the mic as close as possible to the person speaking. Try not to use the built in mic on the camera.
Very good and positive tutorial, I'm a student in Manchester, UK and got sick with some sort of cold and as a student I was running out of food, so i used my chicken wings and all i could find in my fridge, your tutorial really made it easy for me to make a broth and cure myself with this delicious and royal soup. P.S. I also hate these artificial ingredients. Thanks Craig, happy new year
sound a bit paranoid with the instant stock cubes,,,alcohol is poison but you drink plenty of that,,,love ur vids but it just sounded a bit hypocritical thats all
I'm sure we all do things that are not good for us. There are ways of cooking without using those chemicals. On the other hand beer is a natural substance that comes from naturally grown herbs. How much do you think I drink? MSG is a marketing scam that sells products but they don't tell you how bad it is for you. Look us MSG on youtube. Then look up beer. Tell me what you find.
Oh, my bad...of course that's how you have to actually catch the chickens, without which there would be no soup. Gotta sneak up on those critters. lol!
You can get rid a lot of the fat if you set a piece of bread on the soup, it will soak up the fat. You need a big slotted spoon to take it out though.
Craig, you should hit the local bulk food store like the "Bulk Barn", lots of natural grains and they even have cheap dextrose and other sugars for brewing.
Sure they are knorr stock cubes ill list the ingredients for you i order.
salt, vegetable oil, potatoe starch, yeast extract, sugar, bacon fat (6%),dextrose,ham powder (0.5%),burnt sugar caramel, maltodextrin, herbs (parsley taragon),celery flavouring, spices (pepper, celery seed),glucose syrup, spice extracts. Just to be clear craig im not trying to be smart or anything i genuinly was worried as i use stock cubes allot so i ran off to check and then researched online. I meant no offence in anyway.
No offense taken. Knorr Beef cubes are what I was holding in my hand in the video. MSG is number 2 on the list. Were yours beef, or vegetable cubes? Are you in U.S. or Canada? These also have Soy in them which is likely genetically modified. I want what you've got there!
thanks for another great posting...I like that u were true to ur simple recipe from that dinner night.. instead of adding tons of ingredients that I have to go shopping for. Nice and Simple, and I bet tasty!!!!
Wow I'm definatly going to try to make this. I actually have a recipe that requires me to boil chicken and I always throw out the broth down the sink hehe.
I've tried to keep the broth but there was way too much white fat the next day in the fridge. I never knew it was supposed to be seperated.
Tommorow I'm going to hunt down that brush and then take a stab at making this.

It's my family. We all double dip when it's only for us. Good point tho, it's not good practice I know.

I was just keeping it simple. Have you seen my Leek soup video?
CraigTube 2 years ago
you should've taken the skin off in a first place so you're not gonna have any fat in your soup :)
also try some lemon juice in your soup and lots of black pepper to make the taste better&yummy
jen3456789 2 years ago
there is flavour in the skin.

@woodbinedrinker and then dice it up, stick it in the oven to make croutons for the soup! (or fry it up in a pan for some very tasty fried bread)
