Yeah but Blu-ray still has to beat DVD to become mainstream. My prediction is Blu-ray will be like laserdisc. Nice job Warner, you just destroyed the chances of HDM becoming mainstream. I guess I'd take 500 million from sony too!
The move by Warner Bros. to produce only Blu-ray movies is already beginning to push HD DVD out of stores, says a report from Video Business. Several retail chain owners, including Trans World Entertainment and Video Buyers Group, have revealed that they will either emphasize or introduce Blu-ray in their stores in response to the larger library of movies that will be available for the format.
Sony makes some good products. However Sony sucks at making formats. They are always overpriced and unreliable. Blu-ray(rot-ray) is drm riddled garbage. The discs are already rotting and it costs $400 for a player.
There was no High Definition home movie disk format war until Sony pushed Blue Ray into the market MONTHS after HD DVD was on the shelf.
It's Sony that created this format war (again) and it's Sony that should pull thier 1/2 baked crap off the market and go home. When will everyone realize that Sony is not an innovator. They are good at licensing technology and building decent C.E.
i guess sony fan boy will like anything sony pulls out there ass i can see if you like the ps3 but you dont have to like all of there thing i just like ps3 thats it everthing else i dont like from sony oh and the hate me for saying dis

I like how the end just slows down. but really Who came out late and flew pass by. YUP my next Blu-Ray player is the Dis drive Writer for my COmputer and dam well my DVD RW dis would be in my closet. Blu-Ray 4 LIFE. LOL
Not true. I work at Sandisk and it's still a strong market. So strong that we just released our Extreme IV line. Many camera manufactures like canon use CF and SD. However the memory stick format is only Sony as we know and a much smaller piece of the global pie.
Blu Ray movies are only selling cuz of the Ps3. The Ps3 includes coupons for BR movies, so go figure. Hd Dvd stand alone players are twice that of BR players.
No it isn't. Blue ray outsold HD-DVD for the month of March 2007 and thats all. HD-DVD has outsold them before that and after especially with the release of the Matrix today I can see that lead growing.
Since March, Blu-ray has been winning 3 to 1, check your data. Amazon has some good data, look at it with your eyes this time. Also, Blu-ray is going to be standard in labtops and computers, Blu-ray has already won there.
actually, betamax was the superior format, there would be no ipod if it weren't for sony's walkman idea in the 80's, minidisk is beter than cd because it's smaller and won't get scratched, and what about playstation? the ones who were actually pwned were all the consumers who chose inferior products mostly due to marketing.
Ha ha ha so true! Screw Sony's proprietary formats! I must admit I did like the MiniDisc idea, however. I wasted $180 on a MiniDisc player, hoping it would catch on. needless to say, I have a MiniDisc player that now collects dust...
Memory stick never got pwned. And as for the rest, they were actually better, its just we are so stupid we make the worse choice. Ipod is the worst. Everyone I know who has one has replaced it atleast three times. One of my friends has replaced it 13 times in 2 years. They last for a while, and then poof! their dead. Better get a warranty for ur ipod or else ur gonna be the one pwnd.
id say that half of that, you pulled out of your ass. drm vs the world? wtf? and those to floppies?the fuck is a zip? they both got pwned.memorysticks didn't fail either. thats why hdtvs still use it plus computers and cameras.
Well, Ape Escape is extremely popular in Japan and Europe, but a bit in USA. Ape Escape is still recongizable, because it is the first franchise to use the dualshock controller for the PS1. Ape Escape also stars in MGS3. We don't see Mario star in other games outside the Mario franchise.
Walkman vs. iPod??? Ummm how about iPod beats everything.
And also, Blu-ray will be different. Blu-ray is the CD used for PS3. 3 out of every 4 homes in america own a Playstation 2. Playstation 3 will likely do the same, what with its name recognition. Which means that everyone will own a PS3, which also means everyone will own a Blu-ray player, which also means more Blu-rays sold.
Actually, N64 lost because how long it took Nintendo to make it, by the time N64 come Sony had already created a big fanbase imposible to topple. If N64 and PS1 come out around the same time the results would probably be different.
UMD was never intended to replace DVD so I am not sure why people are calling it a failure....but I guess if you don't like Sony you really don't care...as long as it makes Sony look bad....
hd-dvd has 1 exclusive comp supporting it, and the rest supports blu-ray, if you get hd-dvd that means no, starwars, spiderman, and on and on, but batman is on hddvd.
acctualy you can put a UMD onto a computer, you just need the UMD drive; but the only use for the UMD drive is just to read what you have on the UMD, im not sure if it writes's.
UMD is not a failure and Blu-ray is far from one. Blu-ray has more support compared to HD-DVD. HD-DVD only has movies going for it while Blu-ray has support from the games industry and the movie industry. Not to mention that blu-ray has better movie support.
umd isnt a failure dumbass, if you think about it, they never tried to get it into the mainstream market as the next video player it was ONLY for the psp, do some research, and i think the blu ray will win, becuase it is faaaaaaaaaaar superior
sony invented the cd and dvd and minidv<---80% sure
that video is kinda wrong in a few other places as well for example the memory stick is far from dead in fact it usually sells very well in most stores how the guy that did the reasearch is an idiot actually the poster is an idiot as well
this vid is quite wrong on several points. i'm not a SONY fan, check my nationality.
1, BETAMAX was a great success, though it lost the home-use market to VHS. it's the worldwide standard and almost the only choice for television source editing. (forget about home-use DV, it was not there and still not in the same level now) most of the TV commercials and soaps were done by BETAMAX, even in nowadays.
Betamax is not used in broadcast. The format you are thinking is Betacam, introduced by Sony some 7 years after Betamax. The only similarities are in cartridge size and tape width; the recording process is completely different. Currently Digital Betacam still pwns the broadcast market, however my focus was on consumer products.
Hahaha this was great... plus some stuff I totally forgot about... like HiFD vs ZIP. I remember back in the day our court house would only accept floppy and zip. People would send stuff in with HiFD and it would be sent back. XD
BOYCOTT BLURAY and head straight to HD DVD. I too agree that Blu Ray is just an overpriced HD DVD player, that's it. Sony just wants to be greedy once again like they did with Betamax. Plain and simple, JUST DON'T GET A BLU RAY PLAYER.
you dont like sony but i am sure you do own a sony product like COMPUTER, RADIO, PLAYSTATION, CD, TV, CD PLAYER, CELL PHONE, BATTERIES, MP3, DVD, DVD PLAYER, MOVIE, CAMERA, and more dont you! just look around.
Actually, it is very easy to not own a Sony product. The only Sony products I have is a box of 100 floppies (never gets used) and an LCD screen I found on the side of the road.
I must admit, I do own some sony products. For example, I have a PS2 (though I no longer play it because it deletes my game saves on a weekly basis), a Walkman tape player (although it's too old and recently decided to start eating my tapes), and my Dell laptop used to have one of those batteries that Sony made, but I sent it back to Dell, since there's that small issue of EXPLOSIONS...
There's a difference between trying to get the default format and owning a product.... Sony did not come up with the computer, nor did they come up with the cell phones or DVD Player etc. They are not the standard by them...
The cases aren't quite analogous. Phillips and Sony both developed certain aspects of the compact disc. The Blu-ray group is lead by Sony, basically to the point where, if they don't like a particular technology, they don't allow it to be associated with the standard. This makes it more proprietary than the CD. Also, Blu-ray initially had more supporters, however this is no longer the case.
Besides, if I pointed out the successes as well as the failures, it wouldn't be biased, now would it? ;-)
okay sony succeeds when they don't try to introduce proprietary formats but blu ray isn't proprietary it has much more partners in the blu ray consortium than hd-dvd so why did you put blu ray in the video? sony seem's to always succeed when they go into format wars with partners and they are going in strong with many partners on blu ray.
Yes, Sony was a *partner* in creating the CD; it was not a proprietary format. There are many instances of this I do not mention: Compact Disc, the Digital Video consortium, and Sony's success with the 3.5" floppy. However, the number of failed *proprietary* formats greatly outnumbers their successes.
The Walkman Network was designed to be a direct competitor with the iPod. A large factor in its failure was due to the fact that Sony insisted that the Walkman Network only play its *proprietary* ATRAC3 format rather than the more common MP3 format. This later changed, but the damage had been done, and very few people think Walkman when they think MP3 player. Sony killed the brand as it relates to digital music.
also walkman vs ipod? excuse me but wasn't the walkman out way, way before the ipod and was very sucessful? how is that a failure for sony again when they weren't really competing. sigh all these sony haters out there and they don't know what they are talking about.
