It's a fact that people tend to respect the opinion of chess-masters, no matter what nonsense they are selling. I believe both of them fell for the same trap, starting to believe they posses some higher level of wisdom.
But Fischers paranoia drove him absolutely bonkers, he isolated himself and got trapped into his own fantasy world.

@noxure Oh, sorry for underestimating you. The difference between Kasparov and Bobby Fischer to me seems that Kasparov thinks he is rightheous when Bobby Fischer would never proclaim something like this. In this sense Fischer is more humble, less delusional and probably closer to 'the truth'.
Isolation in his own fantasy world is a more honest and humble reaction to the misery that happens in the world then entering politics (=striving for power) in my opinion.

computers have helped alot in giving access to the games of the great players, you can just memorize the complicated sequence and it will help u when the situation arises. Nevertheless, u still need to have high level talent to understand it and put it all together to win games, so the top players are there for a reason

Exactly..I found myself comparing Fischer's story to Tyson's while watching his vids, to see that so many others have drawn a connection tells me it mustn't have just been my imagination. Bright, highly talented men seemingly aimed at the stars, both tormented and kept from their potential by what I believe to be anger and confusion from a fatherless youth. As for Fischer, perhaps if chess hadn't been there to focus his aggressions, his psychotic tendencies might have reared their head early on.

Isolation always feeds mental illness. In Bobbys already sensitive mentality in this regard it only harmed him more. Once you withdraw a little , everything snowballs . Isolated in the "chess world" crossed over to his real life. Once he began to act more and more irrational and get jailed, it put the nail in that coffin . In agreement with Kasparov, I accept and remember Bobby as a great chess master and forgive his sad state later in his life that were contributed to by his fame.

Fischer was a dick--he saw his chess matches against Spasskiy and Kasparov as political battles against communism. When he heard Russian players like Kasparov and Kramnik were using his methods, he was angry and thought of it as a sale of some sort of secret weapon. I saw the IQ test Kasparov got 135 on - and at least some of the questions were for English speakers/ English alphabet users and were more general knowledge questions.
The oft quoted figure of 180 IQ for Fischer was just pulled out of the air by some school inspector for Frank Brady's book- what is the mean and sd of the test for this 180 score?
OTOH I am sure BF had exceptional memory and spatial skills, maybe also good linguistic skills- his mum spoke 6 languages but 1950's Iq tests ?

No offense but both of these comments are completely unfounded and are doing nothing but spreading ignorance. It's like someone commenting on a Michael Jordan video that Jordan was 7'9" tall. That's completely ridiculous, just like claiming someone has a 196 IQ.
The closest thing you can find to an actual source on the issue is an informal IQ test that Kasparov took, which had a ceiling of 160, where he scored 135. Not 190 million bajillion...but 135. Which is in the top 1% of the population.

I am giving actual numbers and the names of the test, and you can google it if you think that I'm lying. You are a moron if you think Kassparov has an IQ od 190. This estimate was done by converting his Elo rating into IQ, and that is not valid as a legitinate IQ.

IQ correlates with wealth, educatonal achievement and professional success. Please, don't embarass yourself more than you already have. Go read the books, "The Bell Curve", written by Harvard professors, and "IQ And The Wealth Of Nations" which shows that GNP per capita also correlates with IQ. You are truly a moron if you believe that everyone is equally intelligent. For instance, I'm more intelligent than you - as an example.

No, IQ is highly genetic, so I doubt that you're more intelligent than my mom considering that I'm more intelligent than you. And nice to see that you're resorting to insulting mothers now.
