  • Ah, the early days of MTV!

  • my introduction to the musical genius of Difford and Tillbrook. Thanks MTv

  • Backing vocals on "Black Coffee in Bed" were performed by Paul Young and Elvis Costello.

  • Its Damone from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" playing bass.....awesome.

  • Gilson, always a fat lad in the early days. How can i get Declan to sing backing for me?

  • i have always thought of squeeze as as having a beatles of the 80's sound . If that makes any sense at all... feel free to comment ( I mean rip me a

    part)

  • We still have some good stations that play his song.

  • woodstock sucks , old has beens it sucks it represents all i hate losers broke losers.

sorry money is a necessity like it or not

  • You know you are missing the 1st 28 seconds of this video right?

  • U know your missing the first 28 seconds of this song right?

  • 0:36 FRANKENSTEIN!

  • Another excellent song from the same album

    watch?v=OOOUsnCkahQ

  • @aknowneemus The way I look at it, it is to the young people's credit, those that find out that the music from the 60's is great. RAP IS CRAP.

  • I need to go back to Squeeze to remember what it was like to hear music with heart and soul. Thanks, friend! I got my R&B Swagger back. I'm almost thought it was gone. :D

  • I'm stuck in Brazil trying to get custody of my daughter ... it's like being in prison ... in the 70's, 80's & 90's I used to see Squeeze in concert - this brings it back and lightens my load, I can just close my eyes and be away from here - back home in good old Blighty ........ ther's no place like home!

  • Glen Tilbrook was FIT

  • This tune has the "catchiest" classic rock chorus of all time !!!

  • See Squeeze with Turin Brakes on Fri 29th July @ the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich!!! greenwichsummersessions.co.uk

  • Love this song. First time I've seen the video!

  • But where is Mr Carrack?

  • Comment removed

  • @ClubViking63 Paul Carrack left Squeeze before they recorded "Sweets From A Stranger", the album that followed the album he appeared on "East Side Story". I actually liked him in the band, to be honest, and felt "Black Coffee In Bed" was right up his alley.

  • @MyJunior1975 Yes, I see he is missing here. Annie get your gun was a great and final single from Squeeze. But that also was without Mr Carrack.

  • Looove this song!

  • Off key my ass. Squeeze is fuckin' awesome.

  • Not sure which song I like better this or Tempted

  • Comment removed

  • Top Tune - must go get myself some black coffee in bed :)x

  • @MsCMcGrath where can i get tickets?

  • Squeeze playing at Greenwich Summer Sessions 29th July !!

  • I used to hear this in the morning on Mtv when I was getting ready for school. good ole days.

  • they just did a 45 minute set in bryant park in nyc a couple of weeks ago. you can see part of it on the internet on "artist's den".

  • @backnineblues Oh my God, that's the sort of thing I miss about summer in NYC. Amazing concerts in the parks!

  • A nice song title for this stretch of bad weather! I'm sure a lot of you wish you can just have this on a rainy morning!

  • See Squeeze @ Greenwich Summer Sessions 2011 on July 29th in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College. Tickets from greenwichsummersessions.co.uk...local boys back in town going to be AMAZING!!!

  • That solo is SICK.

  • my dad sent me over here after he watched one of their old concerts on pbs the other night. liked it a lot more than i thought i would (his rendition didn't do the song much justice haha)

  • Elvis Costello does NOT sing out of tune! It's dissonance, and it only lasts for a moment before it is resolved to beautiful harmony. Go, EC!

  • You can clearly hear the song's producer, Elvis Costello, on backup vocals. He's the one who has trouble staying in key.

  • @BettinaBalser He could sing off key a little. He is the producer but most of all he is Elvis Costello...LOL!!

  • @BettinaBalser hahaha i hate elvis costello

  • @BettinaBalser The back ups on this tune are epic, and legendary. You don't know what you're talking about. Sorry. It's perfect. JUST the way they wanted it and it's a very cool harmony with great chord changes.

  • I used to hate this song and video but I loved "Pulling Mussels From The Shell" and didn't realize it was the same group at the time. They became one of my favorite bands.

  • I'm with jeremybgirl...miss the 80's and love squeeze

  • holy crap. i must have seen this every day for a year when i was 16 and i never got the "black coffee" in bed. don't know if that's what squeeze meant, but the video is really not subtle about it.

  • love the band, love the song and all it entails but damn somebody should have fired the make up artist!

  • It this such a rad song.

Really, I just think its mad groovy.

  • when i came on here in '06 , it was just a bunch of us 35-55 year olds looking for journey videos ,old commercials,70s sitcom vids, etc. ha ha.

but i've had plenty of " i'm 7 and i can pee all by myself" characters asking me what an "old" man was doing on youtube.

Now all these kids wanna act like 60s hippies and refer to themselves as "old souls" because they've discovered joan baez and woodstock.

  • @aknowneemus

i apologise on behalf the few teenagers, including myself, who were up until now tring to expand our cultural horizons, learn from the great artists of the past and stand strong against the tidal wave of 21st century conformity. we'll go back to watching jersey shore and sticking needles in our arms.

  • @SChique00 On behalf of old farts, i accept.

    And quit encouraging snooki.

  • @aknowneemus What is this, Survivor: Battle of the Generations on here? lol.

  • @Tonezone yea, i'm just sticking up for my peeps. It's only fair that you do the same. LOL

  • @aknowneemus I was on youtube in 06' and Im now 22, went to elementary, middle and high school with Steve Perry's daughter Marissa, I wanted to tell him how his voice annoyed me, (never did though). I love old commercials, 70's sitcoms,(anything about the 70's in general). I pee in the toilet. I never said you were an old man. I love hippies and what they stand for, I have never referred to myself as an old soul, although plenty of people have told me I am, people your age and older

  • @aknowneemus A persons age is not what they look like its what they think like, you make the decision

  • @Deango2 so right :P

  • @Deango2 The very fact that they feel the need to brag about their age implies a certain immaturity, though. I think that's the point he was getting at.

  • @aknowneemus Well, every young person will find an excuse to do drugs...you know that!

  • @aknowneemus I feel you, brother.

  • Thank you, Sunday Crossword Puzzle, for introducing me to the worst band of all time.

  • Uh yeh, people born in the 70s and 80s do visit here.... it's really not very long ago guys. We also remember the early 90s rave scene OMG!!!

  • @shesaidwhat247 The internet was invented by folks a lot older than that. And here's another flash: internet usage among those over 30 is actually higher than those under 30.

  • @theschizoidman Really? Even with tweens, college aged and young adults who grew up with the internet as a vital part of everyday life?

  • My little brother liked this song,I used to say "your a fag"but hindsight,I see why he liked it

  • LOL I remember being in the basement watching MTV and thinking this was a great video - ahhh, great times!

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 out of tune? not sure why so many people like this comment

  • That lovely lead guitar solo was played by the "hot" lead singer, who most definitely was NOT even remotely off key. If you really think so, you must be tone-deaf! Also, one half of the duet heard on those spine-tingling background vocals was a special guest y'all MIGHT have heard of by the name of Elvis Costello, a.k.a. Declan Macmanus.

  • I got a great tip for homemade espresso at coffeeloverstipandtricks (.) com

  • Great song!! Can't quite say the same for the video, but..........

  • glen is the boy

  • Great song.. after all these years..it just gets better and better

  • A true blast from the past

  • The brunette lady is hot. I might have to try some black coffee bed!

  • sheesh. This is like watching a nearly 20 year old memory. and its still great.

  • I thought the lead singer was hot

  • This MTV video reminds of the TV game show set of Hollywood Squares !!

  • loved them then and love them now

  • loved them then and love them now. Brings me back to a time in the 80's when I was house sitting and had a out of control party, with this Squeeze album blasting!!

  • yikes! almost 30 years ago! I'll have to think about that .. seems like yesterday

  • OMG I love the guitar solo on 2:35 hits it home and I don't think the songs off key either the 80's did rule. Thanks for the post brought me back to the simpler days.

  • What's off key about this? I don't hear anything off key...

  • John C Reily on drums? 3:14

  • he's much more on-key than any current pop star could muster.

  • super super ...:)))

  • One of my favorites

  • Hey ,honey I'll bring you coffee in bed. Count on it!!!

  • This is a great song from the early MTV days when they where about the music, not a network full of that shit reality tv.

  • @Jordi1962able too bad that the music was shit during the 80´s....not until the late when Prodigy and Chem bros made some changes...

  • @Gfors85 I beg to differ sir. You are entitled to your opinion of course but you might have said i preferred chem etc... to many of us the 80's music defines our lives

  • @MrWishiwas18again its alright :) music is about enjoying and everyone got their own taste :) so enjoy all you can sir :)

  • @Jordi1962able You hit the nail on the head about MTV. The only thing you can say about MTV is that it sucks.

  • A lot of soul in this one.

  • an underrated song of significance,, for the 80's,, this was a great song, and to this day Glen performs it for his "people" ,,, the hook is to die for, the words are universal to anyone who has grappled with love

  • aw man, this song brings back so many memories from teenage-hood :) thanks squeeze!

  • This is SO my song...lol

  • Wow...Paul Carrack

  • @PugManMike "sweets from a stranger" key board player was Don Snow

  • I've read the replies.

    What's wrong with you all?

This is not poltitcal ep. you with what the 'Black' coffee bit?

When are u fragile children going to grow up? After a chocolade ruins our country and then Irag is in charge? Slice off your wife's / girlfriend's nose lately, punk-ass?

Nothing wrong w/ a black pres. but how about that can do the job?

  • @bijgenaamd WTF!!!! I think you had too many drinks before you wrote this comment..!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The day VIDEO was forced to accompany music... was the DEATH of music.

MTV and Co KILLED great music, which was constructed around MOOD and IMAGINATION.

Then some flash, whizzkid of a Video-clip director came along and scattered his bad taste all over great music. Take XTC videos as an example...

  • vh1 bet and mtv need to put music back into the channels

  • When I see this it makes me realize how amazing of a time we lived in, to see the birth of MTV and VH1,.

  • @climbon74 Hahahaha....yes, like the moon landing or the civil rights movement or ....truly amazing to see !!! Sad if MTV is "amazing".

  • youtube police.....tsktsk

  • Eagles Ripoff.

  • 3.17 sooooo hot

  • 2.41 sooo hot.

  • i really like the verses. chorus isnt soo hotttt.

  • what a cluster-fuck this song is when compared to its racist imagery. i was such a fan but this video makes me sick

  • @shelleybobelly1 ummm what is the racist imagery

  • Fucking classic!!

  • Not that I wanna argue with anyboy's personal tastes but this will always be one of my favorite songs! I don't care if they off key or not... It was about having fun. Miss the 80's so much!!

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 : I think that's why I love singing it at the top of my lungs - I can't sing at all, so I can sing off key too.

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 Who gives a shit if they were off key? I don't see any of those people with a recording contract.

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 The 80s were great? Ronald Reagan in the White House and bloodbaths in El Salvador and Nicaragua? Sure do miss those days.... And the music was so appealing so long as you were on Xtacy. But the exception was the Squeeze (and Oingo Boingo and a few others....)

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 So you are were borned in 80's or on 70? Its like 30 years ago, so if you lived it for real you should have now like 50 years. So, 50 years old peoples does really use youtube and find videos like this? I don think so. :/

  • @MrKrikshels

lol, are you like 6 or something?

  • @jeremysbabygirl07 I think that's the point. It's folk music like Bob Dylan. Very raw.

  • I really liked this song when I was like 15 & I serioulsy haven't heard it since I watched it last on MTV back in the 80's and now that I hear it again I've come to the conclusion that it really ain't all that. He can't even sing. It's Tempted all the way for me baby.

  • @marcia7523 ---Another clueless dope....Get back on your prozac!

  • @DRpretorius39 This song still ain't all that. His warbling is annoying and mediocre (at best) along with those equally annoying out of tune backround vocals. See how easy it is to agree to disagree without stooping to childish name calling? Perhaps you should try it sometime, it'll make you seem more intelligent.

  • gay song!! a favorite with drag queens.

  • @TheEDshowSUCKS

Are you seriously that F'in stupid?

Classic Pop.. Classic Band.. Figures an inbred wouldn't appreciate

  • @thound2 It really does suck. Classic? LOL.I don't think so. Forgettable to say the least.

  • @TheTruckdr

    Yep, forgettable.

That's why you're sitting here commenting on it nearly 30 years after it was recorded.

    Idiot.

Anyway, shouldn't you be at Walmart picking up the latest Justin Bieber CD?

  • @thound2 Yea look at my you tube account, it's chock full of sugery sweet music, probabaly make you wish you shut your pie hole from the start.

  • @TheTruckdr ---F-off! What the hell you doin here watchin it theN???

  • @DRpretorius39 tough behind the keyboard, aintcha?

  • this guy has an awesome voice

  • Yes this band was the bomb back in the day!

  • Great vocal, unusual phrasing... This is wonderful stuff....

  • good song, shitty video

  • I love this!

  • When MTV started it was beautiful..All music with no commercials... Now it's total garbage and oh one other thing RAP is not music it's shit from shits for shits saying nothing but shit..

  • @Ruraljohn I find it hard not to find a pretty nasty racist undercurrent in that. There's a lot of bad rap, just as there's always been a lot of bad pop music in any era and every genre. But 'Shit from shits for shits'? What ill-informed nonsense.

  • @Ruraljohn Rap in the early 80's was good.

  • videos today are not the same as the 1980s on mtv. i miss them so much. i loved this song and video

  • i must have watched this video thousands of times in the 1980s--just loved it

  • attheupgrove2003 i think the song your refering to is a song called

    last time forever?

  • God what an awful video. It brings the 80s flooding back. I loved the way when Glen goes into his best "Octopuses Garden" guitar solo the camera zooms in on Chris's rhythm playing. He has the grace to look suitably embarrassed at least. Wonderful song.

  • @yeoviljunction i agree - the horrible moment when a great english pop band (with interesting lyrics and genuine musical talent) met the american obsession with slick promo-videos....awful. (fair play to later bands like rem and the smiths who snubbed mtv and made their own videos with weirdos like derek jarman)

  • Does Squeeze do a song that uses the mandolin? I can't remember the name of the song, but I loved it and think it was by Squeeze. Please help me!!

  • I remember this way back in the 80's when I was a kid. The chick at 2:10 is one of those unforgettable women you see for a split second or two in a video but never forget.

  • @silbitnuoc You mean the one who looks like Prince??

  • @asktunes Gotta admit that is funny.

  • WENT TO A SQUEEZE AND CHEAP TRICK CONCERT TONIGHT BITCHESSSS

  • @citruskiwi0033 mann music center?

  • bryanlynne...you rock....lead us and we will follow.

  • Blast from the past. Heard this on the radio today! *Thought of you, Barb, for some reason!

  • And dammit if it isn't Jimmy Fallon at :42 seconds in wearing the hat.

  • Comment removed

  • i went to a cheap trick concert on the 10th and squeeze was the opening band, MAN THEY SUCK! I HATE SQUEEZE!

  • @FireBreathingBunnies no way squeeze was even better than cheap trick at the concert. all CT did was try to sell their new album. and their set was only like an hour long

  • @johnnyboy41100 how would you know? you probably werent there and anyway squeeze just plain sucks

  • @johnnyboy41100 I went to their concert last night. Yeah, Squeeze was much better :)

  • Always a sadly underrated band. Love it!

  • @TrickTreezz it is an underrated band! i think its good because THEY SUCK!

  • 2:46 tht is the best look ever

  • Love this song so much!

  • vh1 classic channel

  • ha ha old skool !

  • Isn't Paul Carrack great here...what a nice little blues song mixed with a tinge of rock...Squeeze was great...Watchin this on MTV in the early 80s...before goin to HS...lol..smoking a joint and gettin on the bus..lmao...too funny...

  • @davehutchinson67 That isn't Paul Carrack

  • The very first video I saw on MTV 1983.........

  • Man U aint shittin!!! This is back when MTV was Good!!!

  • TheDee913 - You're right about Paul Carrack singing the lead on Tempted. But that is Paul Young singing backing vocals, along with Elvis Costello, on Black Coffee In Bed. If you listen closely you will quite cleary recognise his voice.

  • @25Rougvie wow u know what u got me i swear i thought i had heard it was paul carrack which i knew he did tempted, but the funny thing is its the paul young that sang with paul carrack in mike and the mechanics not the other paul young that does everytime you go away. im sure u already know that u schooled me big time on this one, thanks now i wont be wrong LOL.

  • Backing vocals on this one supplied by Elvis Costello and Paul Young...............

  • @25Rougvie It's Paul Carrack not Paul Young. Paul Carrack is the one that sang the lead in Tempted.

  • A poor Beatles rehash.

  • i love glenn tillbrook and chris difford

  • i lurve this song

  • seriously MTV stood for music television not all the shit shows they have on there now.
