  • Wow, I commented on this clip 2 years ago. I continue to come back. Though I was a faithful fan of Shirley (the) Horn's rendition, this has become my "go to" when I'm craving this tune. I've grown to love the vocalist even more than i did 2 years ago. Her phrasing is flawless. Her timbre and tone quality are lovely. Also, I now realize the brilliance of the keyboardist. Beautiful chords and progressions. Just a crazy incredible performance on all counts. Thanks for sharing.

  • There are many great renditions of this tune, but Shirley Horn's takes the prize. Having said that, this vocalist is pretty awesome. Never heard of her, but I'm already a fan.

  • amen to that -Shirley's version with Mandel's orchestration. Thanks for the comment. M x

  • umm... the best version of this song is sung by Michael Feinstein. try to check his DVD. you'll see the different between a singer who really uses his emotion, recalling sad memory and those who just sing plain..

  • I have just been introduced to this song by a friend, in order to help me with my recent tragic loss of my ex husband whom I was still deeply in love with. This touches me in so many places of my heart and helps my gain a little peace. Thank you....

  • Love it guys!! Sounds great.

  • Magnifique! You did a splendid job on this arrangement. I was introduced to this song by Mable Mercer. Kudos to you and the vocalist!

  • Beautiful. Glad I found you guys. Your selections and perforformances are fantastic and inspiring. King - NY

  • Something can be lovely, harmonic, emotional and imformative at the same time. Bravo! Great recording of a great tune.

  • Jeez,so much information.Very well done. Imaginative. Wonderful 'Girl Singer' btw. she impresses me by undersinging, while still revealing that there's plenty of punch when required,( if there's an influence of any other vocalist in her rendition, I'd have to say that I detect traces of Peggy Lee.) This, of course, could only be a compliment. jazz2511 I'd love to see what you'd do with "Lush Life" in 'E-flat', and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most", in'C' of your 'lessons',I need to learn.

  • Thank you very very much!

  • Could you two do Some Day my Prince will come or Alice in wonderland? I think that'd sound amazing with Michelle's voice!

  • Hi Doug, I was on your Homepage to listen this song in Stereo, what a difference. Great Work.

    Many stars for both.

  • Great Mandel song, Michelle sings great, and I love your tutorial. As a singer I appreciate someone who can tastefully accompany the vocal. I don't think this is taught enough in jazz programs and it is truely an art. Kudos

  • What a great duo. A very natural and perfectly timed accompaniment and a voice full of personality. Sheer pleasure!

  • Doug, you know that y'r good but would you tell the singer, Christine -if I well remember-, that she reminds me of

Monica Zetterlund with Bill Evans Trio "Waltz for Debby"

    Cheers

  • Your accompaniment is perfect, Doug.

  • Doug Mc is one of the best!

    Michelle Benjamin rich sultry vocals.....Schweet!
