I've spoken to evangelical missionaries, Catholic priests, Jehovah's Witness & Mormon missionaries, & what I've heard from all of them (except evangelical, because that's a descriptor, not a specific set of doctrines) meshes with what I learned about them in my religion and religious history classes in college.

Mormons missionaries really don't force belief on others. They offer to do service such as yard work adn simple things like that. They also OFFER to share thier message, but don't cram it down their throats. Missionaries are stricly about SERVICE and helping everyday people. On my mission we spend a great deal of time volunteering to teach chinese immigrants english. WE spent time doing yard work for a blind woman and aided families who endured ttrageties. This vid is bunk.
I too served a mission, and know full well what a mission is all about for the church. It's about selling religion, with service being a means to an end, and often just an escape from the pressure of finding, teaching, and baptizing.
Colorado Colorado Springs Mission from 2004-2006. A good portion of that time was spent at a District Leader, including the 3 weeks at the MTC. Served some time in the Colorado Springs Employment Resource Center, next to the mission office. Honorably released.

@KaelaCarver let me rephrase - all missionaries recruit to their respective churches. However, the only way to do so is to learn/teach about the respective religion. I've spoken to evangelical missionaries, Catholic priests, Jehovah's Witness & Mormon missionaries, & what I've heard from all of them (except evangelical, because that's a descriptor, not a specific set of doctrines) meshes with what I learned about them in my religion and religious history classes in college.

The LDS Church gets audited annually by the US government, and I would think a federally protected instituion using money to push a government bill would be illegal, wouldn't it? Misapprapropriation of funds (I think that's the phrase) or something. Isn't that against the law?

Mormons missionaries really don't force belief on others. They offer to do service such as yard work adn simple things like that. They also OFFER to share thier message, but don't cram it down their throats. Missionaries are stricly about SERVICE and helping everyday people. On my mission we spend a great deal of time volunteering to teach chinese immigrants english. WE spent time doing yard work for a blind woman and aided families who endured ttrageties. This vid is bunk.

I too served a mission, and know full well what a mission is all about for the church. It's about selling religion, with service being a means to an end, and often just an escape from the pressure of finding, teaching, and baptizing.

Colorado Colorado Springs Mission from 2004-2006. A good portion of that time was spent at a District Leader, including the 3 weeks at the MTC. Served some time in the Colorado Springs Employment Resource Center, next to the mission office. Honorably released.
You're right about one thing, I do support gay marriage. I deserve the same rights and privileges as anyone else in accordance with the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

I'm not a practicing mormon anymore either, but my family is still mormon..... and guess what? Sure some posts are legit. But there are many preachers, gays marriage activistsetc who pretend top be ex-mormons or ex missionaries to try to get converts to their arguments. Actually mormon bashing helps the church. The persecution has been there since day one and the church keeps multiplying. I think that we should be able to respectfully disagree on many things. If the missionaries were as abusive as the gay marriage activists the church would not prosper Thirty of my friends have joined.

Black people were baptized into the church right from the beginning. They did not hold the priesthood. They were promised that that would change at a later time and it was changed by revelation. The lord commands and we obey It was accepted by the church membership, no problem. So much for bigotry. You left wing groups use name calling because of the weakness of your beliefs. May we share a message about Christ with you? or We have important truths to declare...may we share them with you? Of course, this guy packed up when he got enough footage and went home. A couple of thoughts: 1) The individuals here have assumed that everyone in SLC is LDS...false. SLC is quite different then the early years of Utah. 2) These two were offensive in their approach at doors. I know that LDS missionaries are taught not to be beligerant as these two seem to be from a few of the discussions on this video. Indeed, these two were forcing their beliefs on people. LDS missionaries ask if they can share a message?

Hilarious. Gays have been persecuted ever since a group of men decided to pen Leviticus. The Prop 8 movers and shakers are unable to point their parishoners to a single place in the New Testament where Jesus condoned discrimination against Gays. So, they are relegated to Leviticus and generic expressions of intolerance. Perhaps these folks can explain whether they eat pork or shellfish; Leviticus expressly prohibits consumption of those foods as "an abomination".
