Amazing singing. One of the great challenges of this aria is its high tessitura. It only goes up to an A, but it sits a LOT in the D-A zone, especially around the passagio area (E-F-F#). Kaufmann's handling of this is outstanding, particularly his ability to control dynamics by the blending of chest and head registers. I think this is MUCH better than his earlier recording and a fine example of how Mozart does not have to be sung only by small light voices.

To all students and teachers of singing: the two versions of Jonas´s renditions of this aria are the clearest examples of "before" and "after" that you´re likely to find. I´ll leave it up to you to judge, but Jonas says that he felt much better singing like this!

aun sigo sin entender porque les gusta como canta este sujeto su voz no es de spinto natural su voz esta completamente engolada y muchas de las notas medias quedan atrapadas en membrana no se porque les gusta en realidad yo no se que le ven? o sera cuestion de gusto pero su voz es completamente engolada los pianisimos son ridiculos... la mezza voce se pierde entre la orquesta maneja mal la respiracion su afinacion es mala... de verdad diganme que le veeeeeeeeen?

Pues yo también creo que no cacha nada de canto el que dice que es una voz de barítono......... Na'que ver. Es una hermosa voz de Tenor Spinto y con un gran dominio musical

Creo que alguna vez pudo haber sido baritono. como cuando Sherrill Milnes empezo su carrera iba a ser lanzado como tenor pero decidio que como baritono podia hacer mas, creo que es un tenor estudiado pero con tonalidades de baritono muy marcadas

I'm not sure I would say "baritonal" - in the sense that Vinay's voice was "baritonal" (before he actually downshifted later in his career) or, more recently, Frank Lopardo...who I find difficult to listen to precicesly BECAUSE the high notes don't seem grounded to the rest of the instrument. It's a telling point that JK resists the temptation to darken the low D near the end! Gotta love the audience for not applauding over the postlude :-)

I like this guy's singing. Saw his Tamino at the Met which was even better than this.

Reminds me a little bit of the way Leo Slezak sang Mozart. Slezak was more confident in the passaggio though...

Pues que quereis que os diga. Me gusta mucho Kaufmann pero creo que esta aria no es para el. Lo pasa francamente mal para acabar, fraseo sin legato y la afinacion se resiente en varias ocasiones. Por otro lado, quien diga que ese timbre es baritonal no tiene ni pajolea de lo que es el canto.

De acuerdo con que en el aria Kaufmann no se destaca mucho... igual el aria es muy dificil. NO obstante se agradece escuchar la voz de un hombre en un rol como este y no el de un "eunuco gangoso" que llaman, de una forma mas elegante, tenores mozartianos. Tambien de acuerdo con lo de timbre baritonal. Hoy hay tenores cantando roles de baritonos y muchas personas aun no se dan cuenta.

FANTÁSTICO poder escuchar voces de esta consistencia (spinto, de baritonal nada, jejeje) abordando Mozart, un repertorio que normalmente cantan voces demasiado ligeras.

his voice is VERY baritonal...but it's a joy to listen to him...you don't think he can reach those notes because his middle range is sooo strong..here's to another wonderful tenor belonging in the same league as villazon, diego florez and calleja

Simplemente Kaufmann es un Tenor Spinto, que por su edad es muy inteligente al abordar mucho repertorio mas Lirico para su Voz, pero sin duda un gran Tenor Spinto.
