I'm a big fan of Delbert McClinton. One of the best songwriter in the business. I used to live in Morgan City, Lousiana and worked for Brown and Root years ago.
I'm from New York and I like Delbert. Liked him for a long time. One time I asked a Texas friend of mine if I was a Yankee. He said, "Hell no, you're a Damn Yankee." I just laughed.

@supacheef1 You don't even know who your criticizing, this is probably the first song you ever heard by DM. Delbert is a music legend,..he's been singing nearly 40+ years & arguably one of the top soul/blues singers of his time, and on top of that can do country. He's very underrated if anything.
What a treat to watch Delbert doing his thang after watching him live in Dallas for so many years on Greenville Avenue when we were doing our thing at Daddy's Money on Greenville..in the seventies..great music, great years, great songwriter, and great guy too..Straight up Texas Hill Country music..
Been a fan from way back.Always loved the story he told on some talk show about John Lennon. He taught Lennon harmonica, Lennon taught him smokin' pot. Too funny!

Yeah, that mountaintop removal mining is a real "economic engine". Just like strip mining was in Western Kentucky.
The place looks like a lunar landscape, the water's all poisoned, the jobs left when the coal ran out, and the American taxpayers are stuck with the Super Fund bill!
As for our economy being a mess, you can thank Dubya for that. He ran 2 wars without including the cost in his budgets, and he allowed our real estate market to become the equivalent of a toxic waste dump.
@versionnine I was watching the Delbert McClinton video and this Whiteboy1815 made a political statement. It didn't belong on a Country Western Video. Otherwise I didn't say a word to you or anyone about Delbert's politics. The messaged didn't belong here. What do you think our current President and Congress are doing? Destroying the Country. It will be repaired in 2010 and 2012.
Just when I've given up on country music because of the tripe Nashville is putting out along comes my favorite artist of all genres, Delbert McClinton singing abaout Texas!!! LOVE this song!!!!
Problem is that Nashville doesn't want or need saving! These geeks that listen to that "bubble gum" crap that they put out are buying and playing that stuff like crazy. It's not the same as it used to be down here, but there are a bunch of folks making big bucks. Everything is so consoladated that it is almost a "closed shop". They try to beat you out of writer's rights, publishing rights and any thing else that makes money. Bunch of greedy bastards and it would supprise you who they are!
A talent as good as McClinton never got the respect and recognition he deserved.....this is a great shame on the people in the country music industry.Don't you think so?
Are you kidding? No respect and recognition. Look who is in this video, Kix Brooks, Rodney Crowell, Suzy Boggus, and Pam Tillis. He has done songs with the likes of Tanya Tucker, and Bonnie Raitt whom he won a Grammy with. He has shared the stage with many like Martina McBride, Asleep at the Wheel, and many others. He is one of those people that many in the industry will jump at the chance to sing with or record with. If that ain't respect I don't know what is.
NASHVILLE COUNTRY AINT GOT SHIT ON TEXAS COUNTRY! Nashville Is Ruining Country Have You Seen Some Of The Videos And Songs They Play On The TV And Radio? Like That Stupid Song *SKINNY DIPPIN*
Singer/Songwriter/Producer, Jeffrey Steele, is the main character in the video. That's Suzy Boggus and Pam Tillis shootin' pool in the bar. Looks like Kix Brooks sitting at the bar as well.
All is well in the twisted up place we call America..as long as we have Delbert explainin the facts of life to us travelers..Did ya'll know that Delbert was the guy who taught John Lennon how to play the Harmonica..Ya did?
thanks for this information. not only in what you call America are musicians like him needed. also in europe. and in both sides there are some hero-musicians. look for eduardo bennato (italy), herbert grönemeyer (german). they got their mouth not shot.

It's OK, I just have an uncontrollable editing habit. The thought you were expressing was good, though, this is definitely in the running for the perfect country western song. --Jan
Delbert McClinton is just about one of the best "story tellers" we have left...His simple but gifted way with lyrics remind me of Roger Miller in his prime..Plus ..Delbert can flat burn the house down with his blues/rock shout just like he is supposed to..great artist!
