The Crocodiles gigged in Auckland and also performed at the 1980 Sweetwaters Festival, which ironically was the event that the Wide Mouthed Frogs last played together. An album called "Tears" was released in 1980 and from it the title track was released as a single. It and the album both reached number 17 on the national charts. Bruno Lawrence once again decided that this sort of music was not his style and he left the group, to be replaced by Ian Gilroy of the Whizz Kids.
Meanwhile Fane Flaws, Tony Backhouse and Peter Dasent were putting together another band with bass player Mark Hornibrook. Bruno on drums and they attracted Jenny Morris as singer. They were called the Crocodiles and before really getting going, Hornibrook was replaced by Tina Matthews from Wide Mouthed Frogs.
In 1978 an all-female band was put together in New Zealand called Wide Mouthed Frogs. Members were Tina Matthews on bass, Kate Brockie on lead vocals, Andrea Gilkison on guitar, Bronwyn Murray on keyboards and Sally Zwartz on drums. Also recruited was another vocalist named Jenny Morris. Bruno Lawrence played the saxophone with the girls on gigs for a number of weeks. Peter Dasent, from the Spats, was musical director for the Wide Mouthed Frogs.
After Blerta, Fane Flaws put together a group called Spats, with Tony Backhouse and Patrick Bleakley. On drums was Steve Garden, Peter Dasent on keyboards and Julie Needham as backup vocalist. Steve Garden didn't stay long and was replaced by Bruno Lawrence. He stayed there for about six months, with Spats going on to play together for about eighteen months, unfortunately never recording any of their music.
I was in NZ recently and i saw this on the tv well its a great little track how come we never got it in oz oh and bruno lawrence such a talent its a shame he never hung around

Ms.Morris nails the song in one! Mr.Lawrence- a legend in his own time! Was there some chemical reaction between the two? I'm fairly sure Mr. Lawrence was "spoken for" and the author is seriously NOT muckraking- you tell me.......
in early 1991 i was in Wellington, in a group of young out of towners looking for a certain bar at 11pm on a cold windy wet night. I asked this guy driving a Landrover stopped at an intersection sign if he knew directions. He pulled over ,gave them with a friendly disposition. We said 'Thanks man, Bye' ..it was Bruno Lawrence. ..speaks volumes of the man ! Sadly later I heard he had died.
i love that all the comments here are explicitly just about how they're from new zealand. how come i never see that kind of thing on the avalanches videos?
WOW! just searching for Jennie Morris song-"You I Know",found that, then found her version of this one, loved it, and then heard this version!!!!! WOW!
That's Dasent on keyboards? For some reason I thought it was Arthur Baysting (who I know wrote some of their songs, and looks pretty similar)

Buggerlugz000: He had an affair with Ms Morris. His wife was not pleased.
gogango1: If by 'never hung around' you mean 'died of cancer,' yes, that's a terrible shame!

Pity this isn't the video that was mostly played at the time. I remember being mesmerised by the lead singer. Great song, though, nice harmonies.

They eventually fired Bruno from the band because he was too experimentative in the live performances!
