Does this system remove bacteria, viruses and everything out of the water or just make it look more clear? I'm interested in one of these, but am really new to filter/Purifiers, I do not know their limits and capabilities....

We recently started planning a thru-hike of the Appalachian trail and came upon this model. It seemed a bit big, do you have a suggestion for a model that would fit our purposes better? We also RV fulltime so we'd be using it in the RV too. BTW, I just checked your website, I didn't realize you made desalination products too! One more thing, do you have a list of things it filters out (like nitrates, etc.)?

Does the filter get clogged with bacteria and viruses and if so , how do I clean it?

The ceramic prefilter disc of the Vario is very easy to clean. Simply brush it with the green cleaning pad supplied with your filter. To extend the life of the glass fibre filter, we recommend using the Vario in LONGER LIFE mode.
The glass fibre filter can also be cleaned by swishing it around in water. The cartridge should be replaced after 2000 litres or when it is clogged and the output becomes too slow.

Is it bad when you pump in air (to remove the remaining water in the body pump) because when i unscrew the bottom, it is under a lot of pressure, and it doesn't seem right.

Pumping in the air with the Katadyn Vario filter is not a problem. In fact, it can help reducing the pressure in the filter. However, it is normal that there still is pressure in the filter housing. Clean the ceramic prefilter and the glassfibre filter regularly. You can clean the glassfibre filter by swishing it around in water.
