I hope you can help me with this problem im having. Heres whats going on. I put my footage of me on green screen up...key it all up,. i done everything you told me to do, and the part where you say to bring the video down for some reason it is showing up WITH the green screen, I got about 70% through the tut when this happend. Im rather new to after effects so I dont understand why this is happening? Thanks for any help

@Skiz316 The only thing I can think is to try moving the "mr. smoothie" points around. for some reason they affect that. Let me know what happens.

@Ice8Fire either you have a bad crack or it might be that the CC effects arent supported by 64bit. I'll have to see if I have them. That would suck!

@joredul1 there are lots of tutorials out there for green or blue screening (or keying) which is why I skipped that part. just do a quick search and I'm sure you'll find a good one.

Yes you can. In fact that would just be one less step than what I did. Rotoscoping means cutting the item (be it a person or thing) out frame by frame. or if you know photoshop you would be drawing a mask or matte frame by frame (almost).

@belzinax Hey, yeah sorry.

All I did was took a stock image for the ice with a black backdrop and applied a gradient transition to reveal the lights to darks. Oh and I set it to "screen" to get rid of the black.

Thats because you're using a bad crack of After Effects 7 right? Or if it isn't a crack then you need to install the plug-ins from your second cd if you are using 7. If you are using CS3 then I can't really help.

yeah. a lot of people do have it but particle systems wasn't what the tutorial was about. it was more to show different ways to use various effects together to create something completely new.

it is all about stacking order. put keylight on top and mr smoothie below it. If that doesn't work key the scene then precompose it and apply mr smoothie to the composition.

do you mean a cliff or cracks in the ground? for a cliff you need an image of a cliff wall to place in your shot. for cracks I have used the lightning effect and turned it black than overlaid or multiplied it. The main thing to keep in mind there is to get the right perspective look.

are you exporting it as an HD file? True HD cannot be played back on your computer because the file size is too big and the computer can't process fast enough.

Try some different codecs. Let me know if that's it.

it wasn't a black background. it was an invisible one or an "alpha" background. I filmed myself in front of a green screen and keyed the shot but I just didn't show that part because of the length of the tutorial and because there are already tons of tutorials out there to show that process.

Hey when you start adobe after effects for the first time, how do u create a project? im lost at that part. I know you may have to already have videos of format but i dont understand the starting of a project to add the effects, editing,etc

I can't belive you are doing a tutorial!!! very nice! Very VERY nice! I saw a lot of tutorials, and for your first, it's a really good one!!! Just try to not having moments when theres no sound. Just talk a little more, or explain or i don't know what... also, your tone of your voice is always the same... This is the only things i see between your tutorial and Andrew Krames's one.

Great first tutorial, AAEuser. :-)

Very informative. Instead of the curves I use invert under channels to reverse the lighting of the subject. Adding the second layer was indeed helpful in covering up those nasty holes. If you have sapphire transitions you can use SS blobs to make the ice layer creep all over your body. Put the other two layers in add or exclusion mode. Thanks for the tutorial. I learned a lot. Can't wait for your ICEMAN part 2.

Let me review you, good sound quality, very important, good image quality as well. You were not going too fast,begginers like it really slow. I would just add up the keyboard short SHIFT+XTRL+C for new composition. If this is created for the more begginer type of guy I think you should explain a little more each effect and what it does. Just constructive criticism!
