  • They invented the cell phone

  • This is amazing! I'm so bloody jealous!

  • How much...you give me a legitimate price and we will talk business.

  • @TheEveningNewsYaLove Not for sale. But thanks for the offer.

  • I'm just about in tears -- this is WAY TOO COOL!!!

  • 1) This is awesome.

    2) Is it just me, or does this guy sound like Mel Gibson?

  • Awsome little Phone but I think if they made Star Trek Walkie talkies with texing they would take the market. 56klm range.

  • i never had or needed a cellphone.. now if that one was still available I'd buy one

  • the only reason to buy a nokia.

  • Don't worry my babies!

They'll make a fully working and better phone

  • I got mine to day it awsome

  • I showed my dad this on HIS EVO.

  • @imthesteve1 Niiice. We used to have the Evo - we even shot some of last year's videos with it!

  • i keep throwing money at the screen. nothing is happening.

  • @stov82 LoL.

  • @stov82 lol 4ever, dude.

  • Why can't Nokia make a authentic Replica of the original Communicator that works like that voice operated mobiles, or with hidden butttons to release ?

I want that for years and years !

It would go as big as the 2011 Nike Mag s

  • Sadly, the Universal Translator doesn't work.

  • Nice phone but sorry no cigar for Nokia. Only looks 50% like a communicator. To many differences. Now if Nokia made it look like the communicator in the beginning of your video, that would be HOT!!!

  • i think star wars phone is better cause they say nokia is not good.thats good spanish.

  • this is just a phone dress up in a tos star trek just like the star wars phone.you sure must be a trekie fan too have a phone like this to pay lots of money for a phone like this i bet.

  • You lucky bastard :)

    j/k

    it is cool though.

    do want!!

  • omfg..i would DIE for this mobile phone!!!!!! i don´t understand why they made only prototypes, i´m sure there are enough people who would kill for that XD

  • The ST communicator is something that would exist in the 23rd Century on a starship because a fancier communicator like an iphone could get dirty or scratched. The ST phones on the show look like you could drop them on a rock and they won't break.

  • @YesWeCantaloupe hey you do know that they make cases to protect the iphones and ipods that would make it hard for a tank to break it right?

  • I would love to have that phone, quirks and all. And you have a very nice "radio" voice. :-)

  • @Kelwyn5 Thank you!

  • I had no idea this was ever made, amazing how they did not corner the market on this device. This person is 1 lucky individual to even own 1

  • 2 of 14? Oh please. It's obviously 7 of 9.

  • @StewieSwan Ha! Nice.

  • Why did they not market that, they would have made a killing with fans and collectors alike.

  • Nice keep sake :-)

  • Fuck the iphone, I want THIS!

  • Trop fort, utiliser 8 min pour parler de ce téléphone:)

  • I cannot imagine why these are not being sold right now.

  • My dad used to watch this, he still has the movies on LaserDisc.

  • This phone is to die for, you are very lucky to get it !

  • Why make more "millions of dollars" by marketing this device.. No wonder some of these cell phone companies are having troubles today and losing customers to loaded phones.

  • With a few tweaks to the hardware and software they could easily market this device. I probably would pay as much as I did for my iPhone for it. Haha!

  • Why on earth did they not produce it? I would have switched providers to get my hands on that phone!!!!! They would have made a killing with that.

  • @ZachGriff11 Although very cool, and foolish of the company.....I still think a design identically to the one from the show (exterior) would be the way to go..........the world of marketing is VERY slow to capitalize on this.

  • VERY COOL! I always wondered why Nokia (or some other company) hasn't made one of these for the Trekkie masses.

  • @con1forestfan Here's hoping!

  • I agree with several people - how much did it cost and my dad would absolutely die and go to heaven for this phone.

  • @sailorstarfairy1 I haven't shared the cost with anyone -- which means I paid too much. :) But it's kind of the perfect collector's item for me, as I'm both a Trekkie and a cellphone geek. So I'm really grateful to have it.

  • @Rapidnadion - The price people bid on things like the NON-working flute that Picard "played" at the Christie's auction flabbergasted me so whatever amount you paid for a WORKING cellphone that looks like a communicator has gotta be better than the flute ;) Know what I mean? Anyway my dad still wants that phone - I think I'll offer to pay the 99 cents for the app Lols :D

  • @sailorstarfairy1 I do know what you mean! Though I might've bid on the Ressikan flute too, had I been there. LoL. And I have the app too - it's awesome.

  • Wow!!! That is so so so Cool, My pc runs Ubuntu Linux (Lucid), all sounds are Starfleet issue, from the original series to the next generation

I want Scotty to beam me up to get one!! LOL

  • I want it... I'd really love to find one of these, even if you could never really use it, how cool would it be just to display...? A conversation piece. Man, just totally cool. ~noirgwio

  • Puny, archaic Star Fleet technology. Pfft.

Just wait until you experience what we've been working on at the academy.

  • Nice and RARE! Are also other languages possible, like vulcan, romulan or klingon?

I guess YOU´ll seldom use it.

My RARE Thing ... i´d bought, when it was NEW released in the mid 80´s, is an ORIGINAL (Vinyl, of course) "Black Album" from Prince, and seldom i played it, just playing the copy from the MD, to keep it in a good Condition.

    AND I´ve to say ... you´re a good PRESENTOR!!!

    LIVE LONG and PROSPER xxx

  • @TheAnanda9new Thanks for the feedback! Keep that album in a safe place! LLAP!

  • Ok Nokia is stupid I'll definitely go buy one if lauched

  • Yea, I'm officially jealous... That's so friggin' cool, I'm at a loss for any words other than: 'ME WANTEE!!' So yea. You're a lucky one man. =D

  • @noirgwio Lucky is right! Maybe a little stupid with money, but lucky! :)

  • Is that Seth Mcfarlane? this guy sounds like Brian from Family Guy. lol.

  • @EastBayFM I didn't notice that till you pointed it out... :)

  • @EastBayFM I'm honored! Thanks!

  • I bet that went for a pretty penny. The R2D2 Droid 2 will blow this phone away though. It's still a nice prototype but I'm kind of glad they didn't make it because it makes my choice in new phones that much easier.

  • DO WANT.

  • it runs symbian s60v3, s40 is not symbian

  • Rapidnadion, you have an interesting voice. You could have been a Star Trek character.

  • WANT!!! I WANT!!!! Where can I get my hands on one of these? If it isn't too late. =/

  • No Capt.Kirk move = lose. Useless external monitor = lose. Hardly accessible volume slider = lose. And all this losing stuff from Nokia, that said no to Android to keep is laughable Symbian, losing again. I have alwyais bought Nokia phones in my life, but, as they chose to lose, my next phone will be a Samsung Galaxy!

  • @suskistube Well, it's not like this is a finished commercial product. Nokia wouldn't have released it in this state.

  • That's a slick device. The inconveniences are definitely worth the price of admission for something so darn cool.

I really love your voice. It's got a slick 1950's commercial feel to it. You'd probably make a good captain or super hero voice over. ;)

  • @vihena Thanks! Voiceover is actually my day job, so that's good to know. :)

  • ESPANOL

  • That looks like a cheaply modified Motorola Razr Oo

  • I don't think you said "fully functional" enough.

  • @phongbong Yeah ... I promise at least four utterances of said phrase in the future.

  • WOW! How much do they cost? I totally just got the chills when you put the box on the screen. OMG! I WANT ONE!!! Do you use it as an actual cell phone or is it more on display?

  • @omgahitsbritt08 Mostly for display purposes. It's pretty inconvenient to use as a primary phone due to it's unfinished nature.

  • Great Review! Great Find!

  • If they made these for real, and sold them as a legit phone, sooooooo many of us Trekkies would pay all of our dollars for this.

  • I have always wanted a working communicator phone. totally awesome

  • @Rapidnation yeah I can see it going out like this if it's not a production phone. Nokia was once a cellphone leader but I wouldn't say they are now, analyst data/reports say otherwise. Nokia are actually struggling to stay afloat in today's market, droid, iPhones blackberry are ahead of the game. Nokia is losing major market share.

  • @leecravenaz No question about it; they're well behind in their game, especially in the high-end market. I believe they're still #1 worldwide, but they're definitely coasting on a lot of low-to-midrange featurephones/dumbphones. Might not be long before another manufacturer overtakes them!

  • I was one of the people bidding against you. Sorry. I'm glad u won it though! Looks pretty cool!

  • @RedShirtDavid Hey man! I was wondering when some of you guys would be coming out of the woodwork! Helluva auction, wasn't it? Sorry I beat you, but I'm glad to get to show it off a little better at least!

  • @Rapidnadion I didn't bid much after $100. I'm glad it found a good home though! I'm a pretty big collector too! Check out my videos sometime! See ya on Trekpropzone!

  • so funny, it's cool but what a pain in the ass to own, ext' charging, bare contact volume lol - You would think it would be working without issue!

  • @leecravenaz Yeah this is very clearly an early-stage prototype; I'm sure Nokia would have given it a lot more polish if it was ever offered for official release. They're pretty good at hardware on their "real" phones, seeing as they're #1 in the world. :)

  • pure awesome.

  • awesome stuff :)

  • @platonicgamer Too much. :)

  • Anyone else noticed Nokia Connecting Lifeforms?

  • that thing is bomb -- congrats on scoring one for yourself!

  • @mikealynch Thanks very much!

  • I'm totally geeking out, for all the problems, it's still the coolest cell I have ever seen. I don't think I need to say it, but enjoy it and I'm totally jealous.

  • @TheDuc069 Thanks! Happy to share it with people who appreciate these kinda things!

  • hahaha I love nerds. :P

  • That symbol is Beta.

  • @psion01 Yeah - figured that out afterward. Did you miss the caption at 03:07?

  • Missed it completely. Google Ads covered it.

  • @psion01 Ohhh - yeah I'm sorry about those. I'm so used to immediately closing them that I forget some viewers just leave them there. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll think about placing my captions differently next time!

  • @Rapidnadion ... *sighs wistfully* I used to close them too. But then Adobe went and messed up Flash for 64 bit Linux a few months ago and withdrew it "temporarily" and I'm left with inferior solutions that make YouTube troublesome. Sometimes onscreen controls like pause, volume, resolution, or even closing ads don't work. But we've now veered off-topic: that phone is an awesome find. I'm an Android fan now, but I loved Symbian back in the days of EPOC.

  • @psion01 As I mentioned in the video, this is my first Symbian device - I think S60 is the one remaining platform I hadn't used. It's nice ... a bit dated, certainly, but not a bad OS at all. I'm currently an Android user, but only until webOS gets back on its feet. :)
