I think the opinion of the Guardian is totally ridiculous. This notion that the BNP should only be allowed on television if the purpose is to "expose them" and "beat them down", and that Question Time is inappropriate because people might watch it and end up agreeing with Griffin. That opinion is only valid if you don't like the BNP. Freedom of speech is a two-way street. Question Time has seen politicians from parties much smaller than the BNP, for example The Respect Party who poll around 1%.
I absolutely agree. It is better to allow people, no matter how fringe their ideas may be, to speak publicly as much as possible. If they are racist crazies, I think the general public will recognize that. I want to think that people are at least that smart. This notion that the BNP should only be allowed on television if the purpose is to "expose them" and "beat them down", and that Question Time is inappropriate because people might watch it and end up agreeing with Griffin. That opinion is only valid if you don't like the BNP. Freedom of speech is a two-way street. Question Time has seen politicians from parties much smaller than the BNP, for example The Respect Party who poll around 1%.

I think you need to have both points of view heard and in existence in order to arrive at a fair compromise, otherwise you get everything going the way of whoever is allowed to complain. Well I've always been skeptic about religion. Even when I used to believe in God, I knew organized religion was BS. By the time I got out of Iraq and had access to fast internet, I began hearing the likes of Bill Maher, Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris..etc. It wasn't magic, they just articulated what I already knew only subliminally.
Plus, I witnessed religion destroy my country and because of it I was forced to leave my home, university, family, and friends.

Islam is a gutter and suppressive religion. Jack Straw on question time is a hypocrite, talks about allowing immigrants in because they benefit the UK. Yet him and his party tried to ban Gurkhas from living here.
Go and live in Saudi Arabia and try to celebrate christmas or wear a cross and see what fucking happens.
As my rights are slowly diminished and eroded away because it upsets minority's or some other religion (Islam) I will support anything that counter punches this.

Malaysia is Muslim country, have you seen the 40ft hindu statue in KL? The churches? The Daosit/Buddhist statues on the road sides? There is no such thing as a monolithic Islam, there is no centralized authority, there are multiple forms of 'islamic governments', mutliple sects, and cultural/national interpretations. Prejudice people ignore the diversity of thought, behaviour and cultures of their hated 'group', any recognition of complexity and diversity threatens their worldview.

No churches in Saudi Arabia which is a shame considering most Islamic countries do have christians and churches. Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, to name a few also are free countries which practice democracy.
But you can't compare England to Saudi, because unlike other muslim countries Saudi is backward, they are not multicultural. thats y England is so great because u can wear a CROSS or a HIJAB without being discriminated unless u walk past a BNP or MUSLIM EXTREMIST opposite sides to same coin

To prove that someone or something is "evil", they have to actually be "evil". I think you'll find that BNP ideology has nothing evil in it. What there may be are some spiritually unstable individuals, but there are those types of people in all segments of the population, including the LIB-LAB-CON parties. Furthermore, LIB-LAB-CON policies have demonstrably caused evil and suffering, whereas the the BNP has not.

The BNP have got onto Q-time because of the fuck ups of the regular Politicians the expenses problems before the EU elections resulted in people losein faith in their leaders so the BNP got 2 seats in the EU. a party at that level does should be on Q-time as they are now at a certain size. On the issue of Black and Maghrib new immigrants. In a video, also on the subject of the BNP coming to national television, which is now erased, I made a comment that those newcomers are barbaric, ignorant and a dead weight for the society. I maintain this comment, and in order not to leave anyone "unoffended" I'd say that same thing can be said about most of the unskilled migrant pool, regardless of the original country.

Jazza, I completely agree with you that the BNP should have been allowed to speak on question time. Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of British society which should not be tampered with because we do not like what someone has to say!!
Thankfully I think Nick Griffin's appearance did little to promote the BNP and much to unite the majority of the British people against them.

The BNP's appearance on question time was a necessary part of our political process.
Neither Should we stifle or attempt to block the entrance of people with extremist views into this country. The blocking and banning of views is the first step into a totalitarian society and that would result in us all feeling quite thrusted.
