The reference about Heather Mills having nothing against her was reference to an old Peter Cook and Dudley moore sketch about an one legged man auditioning for the part of Tarzan: Auditoner likes the man's left leg, he's got nothing against it, but that's the problem , neither did the man!
Nein, it's a sketch they had in Monty Python, if you type in 'Monty Python Spanish Inquisition' into youtube you'll get it. I can see why you thought Blackadder, though.
I think it was Tony Hancock the blood donor they were referring too at the end a pint well thats very nearly an armful no i' m not walking around with an empty arm for nobody your corporate vampire.
First is the "Four Candles/Fork Handles" sketch by The Two Ronnies. Then the Parrot sketch by Monty Python. "Shirley/Surely you can't be serious" is from Airplane. Then "Local Shop for Local People" from The League of Gentlemen. Then a quick mention of "The Only Gay in the Village" from Little Britain. Then it's "Tarzan" by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. "Go Out for an English" from Goodness Gracious Me. "The Blood Donor" by Tony Hancock and "The Spanish Inquisition" by Monty Python.
Can somebody please post the entire list of sketches and their original creators that Mitchell & Webb are paying homage to? I recognized about 5-6 myself.

I love all these shows, especially The Two Ronnies and Monty Python. Has anyone seen the kamikaze Scotsmen sketch?

Thanks kodabar! :)

I recognized the parrot, the gay community in the village and the blood donation.
I guess that's not too bad for a German...
Is the spanish inquisiton a reference to blackadder?
aModernDandy 2 years ago 5
The Spanish Inquisition section refers to a Monty Python sketch which heavily features the line "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition"
You did very well! After all, how many German comedy sketches can I identify?

@kodabar Thank goodness we got through that comment without anyone mentioning the war!

@mentalinadustbin Well, I did mention it just now, but I think I got away with it.

They remind me more of Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie rather and The Two Ronnies.

Oh well I got six out of nine. Enough to make me feel cultured but few enough to make me believe I'm not wasting my life watching comedy shows.

I should say, I don't know if these are the official names for the sketches, but it's how I remember them.
kodabar 3 years ago
The Tarzan sketch is "One Leg Too Few".
I'm ashamed to say that most of the references went over my head. I thought I knew a thing or two about British comedy.

@kodabar think it's called 'One Leg Too Few' for the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore reference but otherwise yes those are all of them.
Great sketch: an awesome tribute to the above listed comedians!
