@GTCism Just FYI: Kiss Me Kate won the Tony Award for best musical in 1949, and this song sees the Shakespearean character of Katherina in "Taming of the Shrew" through a 1940's lens. (I actually just finished a run of "Taming of the Shrew" in northern California.) The ends of both the Shakespeare play and the American musical are actually *gasp* happy: a man & woman finally figuring out how to come together as partners and equals, learning how to take care of each other. So there you go. :)

The song is not really about degrading men, it's a monologue from the point of view of a divorced woman and jaded night club singer, very one sided. She's having a temper tantrum essentially. She ends up changing her mind by the end of the play anyway, like all misanthropic heroins.
