Full respect to the guys line fishing man that looks like hard work - hardly any bycatch too thats gotta be good. Really though it's not the guys fishing making the big decisions - they're just trying to feed their families most the time. If there were better labelling around how fish are actually caught, and public pressure for sustainable fisheries, surely that would help ensure we don't run the stocks (further) into the ground? Or they could just ban these other methods (maybe even enforce)..

After fishing for 6 months, I have all the respect possible for these guys, not so much for the draggers (though out of all the forms of fishing out there, it's my preferred one. Minimal work for the same if not better pay than long liners). This form too is new to me, and from what I see, it's the fairest form for the fish. It's a good way to make sure they're still here in 100 plus years

Draggers, seiners, and factory vessels though don't deserve any respect. The work they do is minimal. They'll do a 3-5 hour tow (where they're inside just waiting, doing what they want. Sleeping, watching tv, reading, you name it). When it's time to haul the net back, they're on deck for 30-50 putting the fish in the hold. One of the easiest forms of fishing.

Long liners are on deck for 16-24 hours at a time working their butts off, gaffing, gutting, baiting, etc.

Generally it takes a certain kind of person to go out fishing on the ocean. Most people suffer from seasickness, lots of guys who've been fishing for 20 plus years still do. They're away from home for days at a time, and they work their asses off. Even on the bigger boats with satellite tv it still takes a certain personality.

However, long liners, gillnetters, and this maldivian style are the ones that really kill themselves to make a living, and deserve respect our respect

sounds like bull pucky to me, Like the little ones dont eat? How do they only target adult fish? and if you take to many out it does not matter if its nets or poles you use. They just stay out longer to catch more fish. True the by catch is down, just like the stocks of fish!
