  • his mouth literally reminds me of a butthole. I like what he said and I think there's a lot of truth to it, but his lips look like a puckered butthole.

  • no wea re not a piece of shit for living a lifestyle worth lving, the chinese do it to themselves. there is nothing about my lifestyle that causes anyone else on the planet to suffer, they chose to exploit themselves . pick me I'll do it cheaper , that's their own selfish fault, they don't treat themselves as something of value.

  • some of the hashest yet truest words ever to come out of a mans mouth. i love this guy

  • I was there last week ... don't be scared ... you have to be a fucking asshole to get kicked out ... more than likely you will end up having a very deep conversation in 10 to 20 seconds after meeting the god who just cooked your food.

  • Stupid -exactly backwards-people are kind as the co opperative forces drive us-not the BS this creep expouses-I'll stick with positive

  • It's called survival. They would stomp you like a roach if they had a chance too. Fuck that, I am good enough because I feel bad when I see suffering. I cannot die for the sake of 20,000 in a third world shithole. The real sin is having a lot & not appreciating the fact that you are a lucky POS.

  • Yeeeeeeeaaahhh Film Vault!

  • what about your boy

  • kenny is a real human being.

  • after watching this, i realized that I am really a piece of shit. Now I feel better. Im not a dumb shit, smelly shit, big shit, little shit, might talk some shit and shoot the shit but I am a half way decent tapered piece of shit.

  • @ytombstone i totally agree with you. You are!! Now I feel better!

  • I have fallen in love twice right after watching this philosophical film, but I was too much of a peice of shit to acknowledge my emotional connection to the person sharing the intimacy of this documentary.

    I too cried.

I took a road trip to NY and searched for their resteruant on DEC 31st, 2008 (hoping to acknowlege and reconcile), but I didn't find anything, only that I'm still that same peice of shit, trying to find ways of feeling good about being so, unlike a shiny new car feel.

  • Am I the only one that saw a lot of public food service health Violation in this documentry??? Where is the NYC Department of Health, and where's the restaurants proudly displayed certificates from the NYV Department of Health by this place. Wow...nasty & scary!!!

  • @aholmes99 fuck off. the ingredients you're eating end your life faster than anything the health department deems unacceptable. and if you think you're getting sterilized shit anywhere other than yer momma's house, you've been jerkin off too much, you're an absolute prick. get a job in the government if you don't already have one.

  • I'll admit that I'm not a perfect person but I don't see any problems with having a new car and taking responsibility of taking care of it it.

  • this isn't my favorite philosophy of Kenny's, nor his most original, but it gives you a good glimpse into who he really is... which is an amazing person.

  • its fucking true. i told my brother about this documentary and this philosophy and he didnt get it. he was laughing his ass off but i was serious when i was tring to explain that he was a peice of shit. and belive me he is one.

  • A buddy of mine from New York( I'm from Texas) turned me on to this documentary. At first I thought, " man this guys a douchebag and his kitchen is a shithole." After watching the whole documentary twice, I think that Kenny Shopsin is a true philosopher and one of the most interesting restauranteurs that I have ever seen. I still think that his kitchen is a shithole but no worse than many others that I have been in.

Great documentary about a guy who is the real deal.

  • I just bought this. Don't know why? I love it. My daughter watched it tonight. Loved it. This is a real New Yorker as there are fewer and fewer around. He reminds me a little of listening to Mike Savage on the radio. I guess it's the real New Yorker thing. Anyway. Watch this. Strangely enough you'll feel better. It's weird to say,but you will...somehow.

  • i got through this whole movie and that absolute tore me up on the inside.. mrdouchefags cried ladies and gents..

  • i dont disagree with his motives but id never raise my kids to think their a piece of shit. you gotta feel special otherwise theres no motivation to do anything. kids do great things without fear cause they dont think their a piece of shit. adults who think theyre a piece of shit dont do shit, they settle for shit and they dont give a shit. the world would be much more hospitible if everyone felt they were special and in turn saw how special everyone else was...

  • humility before pride, I think is what you meant to say. Why judge the splinter in my bothers eye when I have a log in my own

  • I love this documentary, its really worth a watch. It makes you see something so much deeper in humanity than whats on the surface. This particular clip always stuck in my mind, especially with having kids of my own. My Wife however does not hold the same belief system as Kenny. So trying to convince her that child number three smashing cupcakes all over his 2 year old face is NOT the most adorable thing / kid on the planet. Is why this new cycle of spoiled, perfect children will keep on going.

  • This guy is awesome!!

  • bravo

  • SEA WASTE is waste from the sea of waste that is the sea and we are all SEA WASTE!

  • I really liked the documentary. I'd like to eat there, but I'd probably get kicked out.

  • I think he's referring to Humility here... not actually believing you're a piece of shit

  • @pwjm

no, he means piece of shit, haha. when you see it, youll realize.

  • this is a fucking amazing documentary. everyone needs this in their life. don't whine about him being a downer, he's a realist and probably one of the most upbeat folks i've ever met.

  • This guy is a genius. You have to watch the whole movie to appreciate it.

  • Seems like a real piece of shit.

  • @yaknbo

Ah yes but he knows it. And so are you. AND THATS OKAY

  • i agree

  • forgiveness

  • ate at shopsins. the food ruled the world. amazing shit. especially the mac n' cheese pancakes with hotsauce and syrup. ohhhh mama were they good!

  • this movie was great. I hope to one day visit his restaurant. this guy looks like and reminds me so much of Kenny Hotz.

  • We need more cynicism in the world...if there were more Kenny's there's no was Dubya would have got elected twice!

  • I just purchased the DVD and Kenny's recently released cookbook "Eat Me" I love him, he's what's best about my home town.

  • It often happens that by serving other life forms we serve ourselves. But all life is programmed to serve the self. Genetics is selfishness.

But the question is, where do we draw the line? What balance of giving and taking? Can there be true balance? Probably very rare.

So if we take more than we give, the least we can do is acknowledge it. It's called "Confession".

Kenny values being real over being a fraud. Real is - culturally we all often take more than we give. We are glutens.

  • "We are glutens"

What does wheat protein have to do with this???

Other than that I agree completely...

  • @GodofBigots selflessness is the path to true enlightenment. you can stay at ground level with the rest of the beasts, i live in the realm of higher ideals.

  • @zackhanscom You are here to tell the world how grand you are? How about you let the world be the judge of that. It is one thing to claim you live in the realm of higher ideals, it is a completely different thing for you to demonstrate with effective articulation why that is. So far we have your self adulation. Me? I am here to say that the significance of my existence ends when I die. My children and my grandchildren are my only extension to living beyond my death. You? You're forever special.

  • @GodofBigots Were glutens? You may be a protein that has made a youtube account, but I am not!

You can also serve others by serving yourself, you just need to know how. If I can become a great economist one day it will benefit society more then if I just worked in a soup kitchen. There are other people with less opportunity costs that can do that.

Mr Shopsin is just one more loud mouthed under educated guy in North America who thinks he has the answers.

  • @MikeBatman just because you feel like you "are that terrific" doesn't mean we all have to. Go ahead become a great economist we're all pulling for you. Just don't pile it onto people like Kenny for not taking life quite as seriously as you. It makes you sound like a jackass.

  • @billfreck135 Dear Bill, did you listen to what he was talking about? Don't regurgitate what he says without putting a little thought into it. My point is he's being too serious about life, what does a concert have to do with 20,000 people dieing in another country? Why should we think were pieces of shit from birth on? What good does belittling yourself? Nothing it just creates bitter people who don't try to fix the problem because they can't see the forest through the trees.

  • @MikeBatman Dear Mike you don't really get it. Shopsin was using something called dark humor when he was talking about sacrificing 100,000 female babies for a camera, or 20,000 lives for a wings concert. But it is true that tons of people are starving to death as we speak. Are you and your friends doing everything you can do feed these people? None of us are. You belittle yourself by breaking your own back to turn tricks for humanity so we can live longer and have more kids.

  • @Batman: Hilarious, Not "glutens" , should have been "gluttons" - as in one who over indulges. It's funny, I am entertained by my mistake. "Genetics is selfishness" was something that went right over you head. When you Googled "gluten" the first hit you get, the first, first 3 words: Gluten is a protien.

Then you're ready to respond - to protien. Hilarious. My bad, I am the one who wrote GLUTEN instead of GLUTTON. Funny though, a protein is in fact selfish but you wouldn't have a clue.

  • @GodofBigtits Formulate a concise question or answer and get back to me on that one. I don't understand what your trying to tell me here other than that your upset I noticed you wrote gluten instead of glutton.

If you are trying to tell me that a protein is in fact selfish then I would have to say thats truly impossible unless your speaking artistically. A protein first of all is not self aware, nor does it have emotions either.

  • @MikeBatman Does a dandelion have emotions? Is it self aware? No on both accounts. Yet a dandelion is programmed to grow faster, grow taller, and spread wider leaves that deprive grass in your lawn of sun and water in its bigger roots that hold more water. A dandelion need not be self aware or have emotions to act selfishly. All life form parts derive from DNA and RNA. Proteins are no exception. Because they require parts to exist, they consume. Consumption is self serving. Proteins are selfish.

  • @GodofBigots

selfishness is a survival instinct. are we really worried about surviving? as citizens of the US we are definitely

not in fear of survival. food and shelter are way more then abundant.

so i say thats when its time to get over our selfishness and start thinking about others as a whole. no excuses at this point.

  • Mr. Shopsin is all around it. Who do we need? Jesus.

I am planning a trip down to the city just to phiolosophize with the dude (and get somethin' to eat while I'm there)

  • Good luck! He'll probably kick you out! LOL

  • "LGofRPM," you are a piece of shit, and you know it!

  • This is kinda like Al Goldstein's philosophy in life as well.

  • I live in Rochester, NY and have gone there to eat twice recently and I have scene the movie like 6 times, I am fascinated with Kenny, food was tremendous

  • Kenny would spew his philosophy from the back while we ate to Billie Holiday. It was great. He and Eve were the best. I will never forget those days. I came to NYC from Tennessee to find a grocery with a screen door like back home. I am so glad he continues today. I will go back soon. Zach slept in the booths then too, and the other kids did homework at the table where I sat. Yes, I too am a PIECE OF SHIT! AND PROUD OF IT.

  • living on morton st between 7th and bleecker 1982 to 1985 shopsins was in eyeshot of my stoop. they became my ny family when zach was a baby. it was my favorite restaurant. I can't believe this film. its like a a home movie to me. a piece of my life i remember being from nashville and with elvis 70s.

  • A great documentary! If you've not seen this, I recommend you do so!

  • Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

  • Great movie. Notice how I didn't use the pretentious, "NYU" term "film". Why can't these people call a movie a movie like the rest of us?

  • I'm a bad person, I'm a piece of shi*%, and I'm not so terrific, now may I please have the Blisters on my Sisters.
