  • I picked up the Nicholson #49 rasp to do the same task. I went from a square neck to an almost fully shaped neck in less than 30 minutes with just a good rasp.

  • Enjoying the videos... thanks so much for sharing!

  • thanks for taking the time to put this up. I've been thinking about making my own neck for about a year, and shaping had been a big reason I didn't start yet.

  • Excellent, thank you for sharing.

  • Olá Will Ramirez,

  • Thanks for the video. They're making Auriou rasps again. I think you can get them through Tools For Working Wood. I was looking for a video featuring one at work and your endorsement was very helpful!

  • Hello Will Ramirez,

I must thank you because I learned a much about your videos. I am going to start soon with building my own bass.

I already created a design, en made it in 1:1 scale.

    Greetings Oblivtube.

  • You're very welcome! Have fun and be safe above all!

  • have you ever thought about using the angle grinder to shape necks? i have once so far and it wasnt too bad

  • I use an angle grinder with a Kutzall wheel to shape the transition block where the neck meets the body (neck heel), but it's way too aggressive for general neck shaping IMHO.

  • i know nothing of making a bass guitar, but i love playing! cool insight...

  • is that a birds eye neck?

    looks great!

  • Pretty much the same way I do it, but I use Micro-Planes. Your a pretty good instruction giver!

  • I used to do it with microplanes, but believe it or not, these rasps cut smoother and faster with less chatter than microplanes.

  • Do you usually work without the dust mask?

  • yes when I am not producing dust.
