I picked up the Nicholson #49 rasp to do the same task. I went from a square neck to an almost fully shaped neck in less than 30 minutes with just a good rasp.
thanks for taking the time to put this up. I've been thinking about making my own neck for about a year, and shaping had been a big reason I didn't start yet.
Devo agradecer a você porque eu aprendi muito sobre seus vídeos. Vou começar em breve com a construção de meu próprio baixo quero saber a relação de ferramentos e maquinarios necessarios para montar uma oficina de lutiher
Thanks for the video. They're making Auriou rasps again. I think you can get them through Tools For Working Wood. I was looking for a video featuring one at work and your endorsement was very helpful!
I use an angle grinder with a Kutzall wheel to shape the transition block where the neck meets the body (neck heel), but it's way too aggressive for general neck shaping IMHO.

Pretty much the same way I do it, but I use Micro-Planes. Your a pretty good instruction giver!

I used to do it with microplanes, but believe it or not, these rasps cut smoother and faster with less chatter than microplanes.
